In this video, I talk about why you may feel weakness and fatigue if you have cfs or chronic fatigue syndrome. . I also share some tips on how to ease anxiety and make steady progress in your recovery.
If you're feeling weak and fatigued, it's important to understand that this is normal for people with cfs. I explain that it is normal to feel this way after taking a break from physical activity, and that it doesn't mean that you are powerless or stuck like this forever
Take any regular person and have them sit mostly on the couch or stay in bed and they will also experience weakness, fatigue, lack or coordination, and shakiness. The key is to not let it scare you and understand that your regular muscle function will come back to normal fairly quickly.

It's very easy to fall into this comparison trap where you're looking at other people and say to yourself, "well, if they can do that, how come I can't do that? If they, got sick and they got better than how come I can't get better".
Maybe we know people in Facebook groups, maybe they're in YouTube communities, on forums and you'll see them recover. That might make you feel left behind.
The only comparison you should make is asking yourself what you can do now and how you're responding to symptoms now versus a month ago. That is the ONLY comparison you should be making - you don't want to look any further than that or you're likely going to feel worse about your situation.

In this video, I talk about how to increase energy with CFS by understanding that stress is what puts the body into survival mode and causes things to seem more stressful than they actually are. I also talk about how to be both the player and the coach in your journey to recovery.
Being the player means that you're taking an active role in your recovery, and being the coach means that you're supporting yourself through the tough times. It's important to find a balance between the two, and it's something that takes practice. But if you can learn how to be both the player and the coach, it will make a big difference in your journey to recovery.
Every time I would feel that the athlete mentality would kick in and just say to myself, "you're facing adversity, you just have to push through it". And so I tried to push through symptoms and fatigue and I tried to use my athlete mindset and apply it to this scenario.
That was the opposite thing I should have done because as I started to push more and grind my way through the day, it only made things worse.

CFS can be a really big hurdle for relationships.
I've been in your position. I know what it's like when everyday you feel like you have to explain yourself over and over again, to friends or family or spouses, to the point where they're looking at you like you're crazy. And sometimes you even think yourself that you're going crazy because when they look at you, you look physically perfectly fine.
If there's one thing to understand about relationships and CFS it's this - most of the stress with the relationships come when our expectations are for people to understand what we're going through.
The reality is no one will understand what you're going through, unless they've been in the same position you're in, unless they've had CFS as bad as you have it right now.

When our body reaches its stress threshold, the brain starts to go into survival mode and it thinks there's danger everywhere because it's so used to responding to stress.
Essentially what happens when your brain is on high alert mode is it perceives every stressor as 10 times worse than it actually is, and actually takes things that aren't stressful and turns it into something that's stressful.

You need to hit the reset button every single morning and start with a clean slate.
It's very easy to wake up and automatically think "it's going to be another crappy day". That's very common and it makes sense. I was in the same boat because you're doing the same thing for so long.
You're trying to get better. You doing whatever you can, nothing seems to be working. You're seeing the doctors, you're trying these different diets. You're trying to meditate. You're you're taking cool showers, maybe you're even on some medication, but no matter what you do, it seems like you're either stuck or getting worse or progress is just really, really, really slow. And you figure at this rate, this it's going to take me years to get better.
The truth is it might take you years, but realistically, it's probably not going to take you as long as you think and it doesn't mean that you have to completely put your life on hold during that entire time!

Not any time soon.
Now I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but there is a concept you need to understand about how symptoms come and go throughout your recovery journey.
It can be super confusing trying to even keep track of all the symptoms you're feeling in your body so I've simplified it and broken symptoms down into just two categories: Primary Symptoms and Secondary Symptoms.
Primary Symptoms seem to linger and rarely go away, while Secondary Symptoms seem to be more periodical and noticeable when they do come.
It's frustrating when you're suffering from chronic fatigue and don't know when the symptoms will go away. You may feel like you're constantly battling this condition, with no end in sight.
If you learn to calm down the nervous system and rewire your immediate response to symptoms, eventually they will subside. Keep hope alive and don't give up if you're dealing with this condition – there is light at the end of the tunnel.

If you suffer from CFS, you know how exhausting it can be. Symptoms like extreme fatigue and brain fog can make even the simplest tasks feel impossible. While there is no one-size-fits-all cure for CFS, there are a few things you can do to increase your energy. One of the best ways to reduce stress and boost your energy is by actually doing more of the RIGHT activities.
Most people feel better after doing things they enjoy. This is because engaging in activities you love helps rewire your nervous system into a relaxed state. When your nervous system is relaxed, it's better able to handle and REWIRE symptoms of CFS. So, if you're struggling with this condition, try doing more things you enjoy! You may be surprised at how much this can help. Of course, you need to do things within your limit at the moment, but don't get caught in the mind trap that says ANYTHING you do will make you worse - that is not true! Some things will actually give you energy.

Remember that when you do stuff outside your comfort zone and you do take those steps towards recovery, you will feel symptoms. There's not a single person. I know, including myself who didn't have symptoms during their recovery.

Changing your thinking from micro to macro will be helpful. In other words, instead of focusing on day-to-day and week-to-week progress, start looking at things from a month-to-month perspective, and that will ultimately make a difference in your life. This doesn't mean you should ignore the smaller things, but by framing them in terms of the larger goal, you may find them to be more manageable.
By focusing on the big picture, you can begin to see that there is much more to life than your current situation. it's time to shift your thinking from micro (the small moments of pain) to macro (your big picture).

There's no one-size-fits-all cure for CFS. But there are things you can do to improve your chances of recovery – and one of the most important is adopting a parent mentality. What does that mean? Basically, you need to be responsible for your own health and well-being and take charge of your own healing process. That means accepting that you're the only one who can make meaningful changes in your life, and putting in the hard work needed to get better. It's not always easy – but it is worth it.
There's no easy path to recovery, but if you're willing to put in the hard work, then you can definitely make progress. You need to have the parent mentality and be responsible.

Normally you seek multiple opinions from different doctors and either they tell you they have no idea what's going on, or they tell you a few things that might help you in your situation. So you go to another doctor and you're given pieces of a different puzzle.
Before you know it, you have multiple different doctors telling you five different things, giving you five different tools from five different practices. And then it gets to the point where you give up on doctors or the medical system because nobody is giving you a solid answer.
Taking a bunch of information from so many different places and trying to put it together versus approaching it with the idea in mind that this is a nervous system issue problem simplifies everything.
Once we start looking at it through that lens, it removes a lot of the anxiety and provides clarity on what exactly we're trying to fix rather than "throwing darts in the dark" hoping this next treatment or supplement will work.
