The human brain is faster than a Formula 1 car
Inside your head, there are billions of tiny cells called neurons. They're like little messengers. They send signals to each other, and these signals travel at an astonishing speed of up to 268 miles per hour.
To put that into perspective, the fastest Formula 1 cars can reach speeds of about 240 mph. So, your brain's signals are racing even faster than those super speedy cars!

How Dogs Differently View the World
This difference in color perception doesn't mean dogs have poor vision. In fact, their vision is attuned to other visual cues such as brightness, contrast, and movement, which are crucial for their survival and daily activities.
Understanding these differences in perception can help us better comprehend the behavior of our dogs. It reminds us that they are not just smaller, furrier humans, but creatures with a unique view of the world."

Rainbows are a full circle
If you were to observe a rainbow from a higher altitude, such as in an airplane or from a high mountain, you might see the full circle of the rainbow. The full circle is often more visible in situations like waterfall mist or spray from a garden hose in sunlight.

How Human Engineering Altered Earth's Spin
According to NASA's calculations, this slowdown is by about 0.06 microseconds. That's 0.06 millionths of a second – a change so small, it's virtually unnoticeable, yet it's a profound reminder of our impact on the planet.
The Three Gorges Dam, because of its massive size and the amount of water it holds, has had a tiny effect on how fast the Earth spins. It's fascinating to think that something humans built can affect the entire planet, even if it's just a very small change!

Pepsi is more powerful than you think!
Instead of paying with money, the Soviet Union decided to trade their ships for Pepsi. They gave Pepsi a fleet of submarines and boats. Specifically, they traded 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer.
The value of these ships was about $3 billion in Pepsi products. So, for a little while, because of this deal, Pepsi had a massive military power, but it was very different from a regular military force. It was all because they traded their famous drink for ships!

The Return of OSIRIS-REx with Precious Asteroid Samples
In 2020, OSIRIS-REx touched Bennu, used gas to stir up dust and rocks, and then grabbed some of this material. In May 2021, it started its journey back to Earth.
The capsule with the samples was released from the spacecraft and landed safely in Utah. Dante Lauretta, who's leading the mission, was happy to see it land safely, like meeting an old friend.
The capsule, with about 8.8 ounces of asteroid stuff, was taken to a clean room and will be sent to NASA's Johnson Space Center for more study.
Meanwhile, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft isn't done yet. It's now going to another asteroid named Apophis.

Theodore Roosevelt and the Birth of the Teddy Bear
The teddy bear's invention not only brought joy to countless children but also forever immortalized President Theodore Roosevelt's compassionate act during that Mississippi hunting trip. It became a symbol of kindness, love, and the enduring bond between children and their beloved toys, all stemming from an act of compassion by a U.S. President and the ingenuity of a toy store owner and his wife.

The Untold Story of New York's Name Change
If I were to ask you what is the most famous city in the USA, your answer would probably be New York. But what if I told you that this great city was once known as 'New Orange"?
This is because the Dutch captured New York from the English in 1673 and dubbed it New Orange in honour of William III of Orange. The following year the English seized control of the city once again and changed it back to its former name.

The Fascinating Journey of Toilet Paper #toiletpaper #intellectisland
The modern toilet paper as we know it today began to emerge in the 19th century. In 1857, Joseph Gayetty of the United States introduced the first commercially available toilet paper.
It was sold in packages of flat sheets and was medicated with aloe. Gayetty's product was marketed as a medical accessory that helped prevent hemorrhoids.
Despite Gayetty's innovation, toilet paper took a while to become popular in the Western world, primarily due to cultural attitudes and the availability of alternative materials.
The Scott Paper Company, founded in 1879, was a significant player in changing these attitudes. They began selling toilet paper on a roll, a format that is now ubiquitous.

Unlocking the Mystery of Blue Eyes #intellectisland #blueeyes
Now, scientists did a lot of research to figure this out. Back in 2008, a clever team of researchers from the University of Copenhagen did some detective work and found the HERC2 gene.
They traced it back to that ancient ancestor and discovered how it made blue eyes possible.
One important thing to remember is that blue eyes are a bit rarer than brown eyes. You might wonder why. Well, it's because this special mutation didn't happen to everyone.
It mainly spread among people in Eastern Europe. It's believed that this gene mutation traveled with people when they migrated from Africa to Europe, which is how it became more common in certain areas.
So there you have it, the story of how blue eyes came to be. It all started with a tiny gene mutation thousands of years ago, and now we have people with those beautiful blue eyes all around us. It's like a little piece of history right in our eyes!
So next time you see someone with blue eyes, say hello to your new family member.
