Nashville, Tennessee — Metro Police released body-cam and dash-cam footage of a deadly shootout Friday morning involving a Metro officer and a woman. Just after 9:30 a.m., field training officer Josh Baker from the East Precinct, was patrolling in the area of Brick Church Pike near the intersection of Ewing Drive when he spotted a black 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Officer Baker was aware that the registered owner of the Camaro, convicted felon Demond Buchanan, had six outstanding drug warrants, charging five felonies and one misdemeanor, that were issued last month for possession of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, Xanax and crack cocaine. Officer Baker radioed to check on the airborne status of a police helicopter, believing that the driver of the Camaro might try to flee. The camaro stopped in the parking lot of the Dollar General store. Officer Baker found that it was being driven not by the wanted drug felon, but by Nika Nicole Holbert.
While, Holbert essentially complied with Officer Baker's directives during the first few minutes of their interaction, her compliance changed after Officer Baker found what appeared to be marijuana and a powdery substance in her bag and attempted to detain her while waiting for backup officers. Officer Baker drew his non-lethal taser in an effort to safely bring Holbert into custody. Officer Baker drew his service pistol when he saw that Holbert had pulled a gun, as he demanded that she put the gun down, Holbert shot Baker. He returned the fire. Officer Baker was shot in the side of his torso, the round went under his bulletproof vest. Holbert tossed her semi-automatic pistol in the parking lot before fleeing in the Camaro. She drove for about a block before running off the road at the intersection of Brick Church Pike. Officers rendered aid for her gunshot wounds until an ambulance arrived. She died later Friday morning at a local hospital. Officer Baker is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Las Cruces, New Mexico — On Feb. 3, 2021 at 1:38 p.m. LCPD Officer J. Herrera using his lights and siren initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe which he observed being operated erratically at a high rate of speed north bound on Solano Drive. After detecting the odor of marijuana and observing that the front passenger appeared nervous, as well as finding that Orozco was armed with a knife, Officer Herrera requested a backup officer to his location. Officer Herrera then obtained Orozco's identification and returned to his unit to run Orozco for warrants—he learned that Orozco was wanted on a felony warrant for his arrest. Officer Herrera returned to place Orozco under arrest. Officer Herrera asked Orozco to shut off his vehicle which he did and advised Orozco to step out due to the warrant for his arrest. Officer Herrera began opening Orozco's door to take him into custody as Orozco simultaneously turned on his vehicle. Officer Herrera then attempted to prevent Orozco's escape; however, Orozco was able to place the vehicle into gear at which time he began to drag Officer Herrera who was partially inside the vehicle.
Back up Officer M. Carrera perceiving a deadly threat to Officer Herrera by being run over or rammed into a utility pole, discharged his firearm to stop Orozco. Joel Orozco fled the scene and abandoned the Chevrolet Tahoe nearby, but he was located nearly an hour later, hiding in a shed in the 1800 block of Sexton Street. The male front passenger was located, interviewed, and released soon after the incident. Unbeknownst to the officers a female seated behind Orozco at the time of the incident, who was not visible due to the illegally tinted windows on the vehicle, was struck by gunfire. The female was transported to an area hospital for treatment, and subsequently released. Officer Herrera was transported to an area hospital for treatment and remains on leave recovering from the injuries he sustained. Orozco was charged with Aggravated Battery (Deadly Weapon) Upon a Peace Officer; Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer; Receipt, Transportation or Possession of a Firearm by a Felon; Resisting, Evading or Obstructing an Officer—the charges have been bound over to District Court.

Salem, Oregon — On Monday, April 10, 2023, at 8:42 a.m., an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper, Andrew Tuttle, was on duty and driving northbound on Interstate 5 (I5). Trooper Tuttle was nearing milepost 254 and observed what he believed to be a stalled semi-trailer in the B lane (middle lane). Trooper Tuttle called into his dispatch to inform them that he would be stopping to assist the driver. As Trooper Tuttle pulled up closer to the semi-trailer, he observed an adult male suspect (later identified to be 31-year-old Felipe Amezcua Manzo) in the roadway with a firearm in his hand. Trooper Tuttle saw Amezcua Manzo point the firearm at the driver of the semi-trailer and then saw him point the firearm at a driver of a nearby SUV and try to force open the passenger side door of that vehicle. At this time, Amezcua Manzo noticed Trooper Tuttle and started to run to the east, toward the CarMax (located adjacent to I5). Trooper Tuttle activated his lights and sirens and pulled his vehicle over to the side of the interstate. Trooper Tuttle exited his vehicle and drew his firearm. Trooper Tuttle saw Amezcua Manzo run to the grass shoulder and then go down into the ditch. Trooper Tuttle yelled at Amezcua Manzo to “get on the ground” numerous times but Amezcua Manzo ignored those commands and continued walking south.
Trooper Tuttle proceeded to go down into the ditch and saw Amezcua Manzo walking with the gun in his hand. Amezcua Manzo then turned toward Trooper Tuttle, aimed the gun at Trooper Tuttle and started firing. Trooper Tuttle then returned fire. During this exchange of gunfire, Trooper Tuttle felt something hit him on his left arm. Trooper Tuttle started back up the incline at the side of I5, in an attempt to find coverage from the gunfire but ended up falling into the water in the bottom of the ditch. Trooper Tuttle was able to get up and run up to his patrol vehicle. Trooper Tuttle reloaded his firearm and noticed that Amezcua Manzo was again aiming at him and firing. At this point, Trooper Tuttle saw a “blue light or laser” coming from Amezcua Manzo’s gun. The light was pointed right at Trooper Tuttle’s eyes and blinded him momentarily. This light is frequently associated with laser-assisted aiming, suggesting to Trooper Tuttle that the gun was aimed at his head. Trooper Tuttle began to fire again toward Amezcua Manzo. Amezcua Manzo was still holding the gun and aiming at Trooper Tuttle. After Trooper Tuttle reloaded his gun a second time, he noticed Amezcua Manzo start to walk back toward Trooper Tuttle. Trooper Tuttle continued to fire at Amezcua Manzo, reloading a third time, until Amezcua Manzo fell to the grass.
At this time, Trooper Tuttle informed dispatch that shots had been fired and Amezcua Manzo was down. Medics were immediately dispatched to the scene to render medical aid to Amezcua Manzo. While Trooper Tuttle was waiting for back up officers to arrive, a male started running down the interstate toward Trooper Tuttle. The male identified himself with a badge as a retired Pierce County, Washington, Sheriff’s Deputy. Trooper Tuttle gave the retired deputy his backup weapon and the retired deputy joined Trooper Tuttle at his patrol vehicle. They both held Amezcua Manzo at gunpoint for their safety until back up officers arrived just a few minutes later. Once additional officers arrived, they approached Amezcua Manzo to render aid. Officers observed gunshot wounds to Amezcua Manzo’s chest, back, and head. Medical aid was administered but Amezcua Manzo was pronounced deceased at the scene. Also located near Amezcua Manzo was a firearm with an attached laser sight and light, which was blue in color. Trooper Tuttle sustained an abrasion to his left arm but did not require further medical attention. It cannot be determined if the injury Trooper Tuttle sustained was due to a bullet graze or due to his fall in the ditch. No other motorists, bystanders or police officers were injured during this incident.

Fake Cop Pulls Over Real Cop _ Doesn’t End Well!
On November 4, New Mexico State police received a call for assistance from a captain who reported an attempt to pull him over on I-40. The captain activated all his lights—blues in the front, reds in the back—in an effort to control traffic and simulate a police presence.
Upon attempting to apprehend the individual, identified as Portillo, law enforcement officers were able to detain him. Portillo provided an explanation for his actions, stating, “We go to Central and Eubank, and we just run all those all the way down the hill. I didn’t light him up. I didn’t do anything because that’s against the law to pose as an officer. I’m a PPO for the state. I work for this private company, and we’re cleaning house here.”
Portillo was issued a misdemeanor citation for impersonating an officer and subsequently released.
