1 John: Love One Another, Christian Guidelines, Overcoming the World
In this short Book of the Holy Bible John begins by telling us God's Word is incarnate, that we can have a relationship with the God, and his son, Jesus Christ. John then tells us God is light and in him is found no darkness, no deceit, that his son is the path to eternal life.
John tells us that Jesus Christ is our advocate, and without him, we stand alone in judgement with no one to defend us.
John tells us not to love the world, for the world does not know us because it did not know Jesus. In this modern day where we see the beginning of persecution against God's chosen people the Jews, we are also seeing the rise of persecution against Christians.
But John tells us we must remember we are children of God, and that we should love one another, even though some may hate us. This world is passing from life to death and we must not condemn them, but rather continue to open a hand to show them God's love and help those who wish to find salvation.
John also tells us to beware of false prophets, false preachers and false witnesses, that we can weigh what they say against the scripture to determine if they are true to God's word or they are using God's word for their own ends.
Finally John tells us we must overcome the world, and not be a part of it. Live in it yes, but not to succumb to its wickedness, greed, lust for power. Many of our leaders today do not serve their people, rather they server their own interests to gain power and wealth for themselves. These are not leaders.

1 Tessalonians - Thanksgiving, Ministry and Day of the Lord
1 Thessalonians is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the early Christian church in Thessalonica, a city in modern-day Greece. It's considered one of the earliest New Testament letters and sheds light on the beliefs and challenges faced by Christians in the first century. Here are some key things 1 Thessalonians is about:
Encouragement and Comfort:
Paul expresses his affection and encouragement for the Thessalonians, praising their faithfulness despite facing persecution.
He addresses their concerns about the timing of Jesus' return, assuring them that He will come again and believers will be united with Him.
Instruction and Guidance:
Paul provides practical guidance on Christian living, emphasizing holiness, love, and brotherly love.
He encourages them to live moral lives, abstaining from sexual immorality and greed.
He also instructs them on how to treat one another within the church community, urging them to respect their leaders and support each other.
Hope and Eschatology:
A prominent theme is the concept of Jesus' second coming and the hope it offers.
Paul paints a vivid picture of the rapture, where believers will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air.
This message provided comfort and assurance to the persecuted Thessalonians, reminding them that their suffering was temporary and the ultimate victory belonged to Christ.
Overall, 1 Thessalonians is a message of love, hope, and practical guidance for early Christians. It remains relevant today, offering encouragement and instruction for living a Christian life and finding hope in the face of challenges.

A Christmas Message for 2023
Apollo 8 was launched on December 21, 1968
The spacecraft safely returned to Earth on December 27, 1968.
It was the first mission to send human beings into orbit around the Moon.
It was also the first time human eyes saw the far-side of the Moon.
On Christmas eve, the crew of Apollo 8 sent a video message back to all of us on Earth.
A message we should be reminded
of from time to time, especially today in a world bent on never ending war, hatred, and division.
My brother and I watched this mission from launch to splash down.
I will never forget the impact it had on me.
