Like many of us, Scott Voelker’s The Amazing Seller podcast introduced Kevin to e-commerce. After investing a season’s worth of part-time income into his Amazon business, Kevin began working full-time for his own dream selling private label. Kevin and Todd connected through Brand Accelerator Live, an event that allows e-commerce professionals to share their secrets to success. Today, Kevin shares his secrets with you.
Cast A Wider Net
Kevin believes everything is a function of time; the faster you cast a wider net, the faster you’ll see results. Kevin has successfully increased his professional growth by multiplying his sales channels through international expansion. Despite fears of complex tax laws, Kevin feels most international regulations are easier to interpret than U.S. tax laws.
Canada
If you've never expanded internationally, Canada is a fantastic place to start. Their tax laws are simpler (and friendlier) than Europe’s and Canada is closer. In other words, shipping is cheaper. Not to mention, there's generally less competition. Kevin recommends hiring a CPA and registering for GST and HST, Canada's goods and services tax. If registered you'll recoup what you paid in GST through Amazon. Fill out your RC1 form here! While you lose Amazon's UPS discounts, Kevin has discount codes that always come through at checkout (EASY & FAST).
Europe
Looking to expand to Europe? Start in the U.K. The U.K. has a 20% VAT tax included in your selling price. However, if you're using a prep center, ask how they deal with VAT because when it comes to business-to-business deals, prep centers may in fact add VAT on top of the selling price.
Amazon also has an algorithm in the United States that determines where your products should be shipped for expedited delivery. The only way to replicate this in Europe is by clicking that you accept Pan-European. By accepting this agreement, you're responsible for products not only in the E.U. but in countries where products are stored (Poland, Czech Republic). Due to the money required to file and register in these additional countries, Kevin doesn't recommend accepting this agreement.
Margins 101
Generally speaking, you'll experience higher sales and smaller margins in Europe and lower sales with higher margins in Canada. It's also important to remember that your U.S. strategy won't translate internationally. You must figure out if your products will sell in Canada or Europe.

Laser-Focused To The Power of Time
Do you feel like there's competition from all angles? Remember this: Amazon’s barrier to entry is ground-level but their barrier to success is sky-high. Only a fraction of sellers will become lucrative business-owners and the secret to success is focus. If your passion is wholesale, spend every day calling distributors.
Relationships Rule
Every new seller is overwhelmed by the prospect of establishing themselves. For success in sales, ditch your 400 emails per day and pick up the phone. Given that most sellers can't make it past a generic email, taking the initiative to call immediately sets you apart. Not to mention, most distributors pre-filter Amazon emails.

As a new Amazon wholesaler, it’s difficult to get started selecting an Amazon category to sell in, deciding on order quantities, and managing cash flow. These skills primarily comes with experience and involve a lot of moving parts. When compared to finding new products to sell and showing off your products it isn’t the most exciting task on your to-do list. But if you don’t get it right, it’s going to impact your business from top to bottom. Thankfully, it is not as difficult as you might think if you know the right things to look at.
Always Keep Learning
When I myself got started, it was a kind of learning curve for me as I failed often and failed forward. But most importantly, I learned from my mistakes and made the most out of them. At first you may find it a little difficult, too. To overcome this and to know the challenges that you are going to face listen to this episode.
From my experience as a coach the primary challenges faced by beginners who are trying to explore the world of Amazon wholesale are: category selection, order quantity, and, above all, cash flow. You don’t need to be an expert on them; but having the basic ideas will help you grow without making those widespread mistakes that could hamper your growth in the first place. This episode is entirely concentrated on those basics.
Know Your Categories
For instance, having the proper knowledge of your product categories will give you the boost to deal with your suppliers or distributors. It will give you the confidence to answer relevant questions. So, knowing something about a specific category could really help making things easier for you when just getting started. Knowing the ins and outs of the categories will give you a much needed edge.

Free and Quick Way To Match Amazon Reviews to Variations When Buying Wholesale ReviewMeta.com
Have you ever been looking at wholesale products to buy to sell on Amazon and you see a product that looks good but its a part of a variation listings? How do you know which variation sells the best?
ReviewMeta is a website that quickly matches up the reviews to the listings so that you can determine how much each variation sells.
The way I do it is lets say we have a product with variations that sells 1000 units per month and if there are 100 reviews and the variation that has good profit and is the one i want to buy has 60 out of those 100 reviews I can figure out approximately how many I should buy using the math below.
Variation Reviews / Total Reviews = Review Percentage
Total Monthly Sales * Review Percentage = Approximate Variation Monthly Sales
In the case above:
60/100 = 0.6
1000 * 0.6 = 600 approximate sales per month for that variation.
This is how I have been figuring out how many of a product I should order for an initial order so that I am not over ordering and being stuck with a bunch of product and losing money.
