Silhouette In the Sunset - Spaghetti Western *Stanford Lee Show*
What if breakups were as dramatic as a gun fight?
This week on the Stanford Lee Show: Spaghetti Western. My latest song was inspired by the expanse, mystery, and haunting of spaghetti western movies. Just imagine it, the lone figure, a silhouette in the setting sun, a shadow across a dramatic western landscape. What's not to love about it?

"St. James Infirmary" Details of Life *Stanford Lee Show*
This week on the Stanford Lee Show: what do "St. James Infirmary" and "People are Strange" have in common? Watch and find out.
The mysterious "St. James Infirmary." It's bluesy. It's spooky. Its been done a bunch of times and love it. Cab Calloway does my favorite version of it. But there's something in the chord progession that catches my attention. Where have I heard it before?

Ridden Everywhere - Not All That Wander are Lost *Stanford Lee Show*
"I've been everywhere, man. I've been everywhere" Oh sorry. Wrong song.
This week on the Stanford Lee Show: What does Tolkein have to do with the cowboy spirit? Let me explain.
Wanderlust and the cowboy spirit
J.R.R. Tolkein, the famed author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, once wrote "Not all that wander are lost" in his poem "The Riddle of Strider" found in The Fellowship of the Ring. I first read the quote while waiting in a travel office and it's kind of stuck with me ever since. It seemed to be a fitting quote for a company whose business model was based on sending people off to wander around the world. Today I think about the quote and realize that the idea of wandering is not just limited to people who want to book economy class airfare to various places around the world.
The classic cowboy: western shirt, weather worn jeans, and the iconic cowboy hat and boots. But the cowboy lifestyle is more than just a fashion statement. It's a draw away from civilization and into the open air. I think we all have a little bit of cowboy spirit somewhere in our hearts.
Join me this week while I talk about the cowboy spirit and the music that inspired my latest song, "Ridden Everywhere." Enjoy, and as always, if you like what you see, please subscribe and turn on your notifications so you don't miss any new episodes.
Stay country folks!

First things first, it's Appa-latch-un no Appa-lay-shun. Saying the later will bring on the cringe from anyone who knows better.

Under the Disguise - Interview **Stanford Lee Show**
This week on the Stanford Lee Show join me for some on the cuff songwriting with my sax and Ableton. Making a song is a process but I love every step of it.
I'm also joined by Ashcraft Studio's Promotional Director Rebecca Firth. Rebecca is an experienced journalist and we've been incredibly lucky to have her on our team. Fun fact: We first met Rebecca years ago when she interviewed my old band Ashcraft. She was writing for TransWorldNews and picked us to participate in her Featured Artists initiative.
As always, stay tuned for a special live performance. This week I'll be playing "Under the Disguise" on my trusty, and orangely beautiful, Gretsch.

In the Studio Session #1 Sax & Formulas of Pop *Stanford Lee Show*
In the Studio Session #1 Sax & Formulas of Pop
This week I’m bringing you guys into the recording studio to check out what I’ve been up to. I’ve been trying to challenge myself in the studio lately. So, I took inspiration from Fat Domino’s “Blueberry Hill”, which recently entered the public domain, and tried to rework it focusing on three categories: lead instrument, palette, and chords.
The idea came to me after listening to The Car’s “Just What I Needed” and I could hear the same chord progression heard in Pachabel’s famous “Canon.” It got me thinking about how symmetry and chord structure can impact a piece of music and create an almost mathematical formula for a catchy tune. What do you guys think?

Memory Machine - Glitches *Stanford Lee Show*
New Music
New Song: "Memory Machine"
What happened to our time? We said goodbye to 2020, but what did we really say goodbye to? Now in 2021 I think about last year and I feel like I went through a glitch in the matrix. Where are my memories of quality time with friends and family, or playing out and interacting with fans? Sometimes I wish I could just hop into a time machine and go back to when musicians and fans enjoyed the music together. *Cue music*

Misguided Hearts - New York to Paris *Stanford Lee Show*
New Music
New Song: Misguided Hearts
Ashcraft Studios was excited to welcome a piano into the family recently. This week we switched the filming location to the top of the stairs so we could show off the new addition.
I was channeling my inner David Bowie when I wrote this piece, "Misguided Hearts." It was a little outside of my writing voice, but enjoyed the musical exercise. It definitely made me question what it really means to be an artist and what environmental factors, or substances, can impact a person's growth.
