Rising Above Anxiety: Breaking Free From VICTIM MENTALITY
I've never met ANYONE who suffered from chronic anxiety and didn't see themselves as a victim, including and especially ME.
For the most part, anxious people were victims of trauma or unresolved emotional pain and our nervous system was trained to be on defense, which will never allow us to heal from anxiety.
To heal, we must see our victim mentality and go TOWARDS our fears and not retreat from it.
Thank you for listening.

The Root Cause Of Anxiety
This episode,is the most practical and emotionally vulnerable episode of the ANXIETY Rx PODCAST so far.
In this episode, I talk about the root cause of anxiety being a separation of your adult self from your child self and the practice I do every morning of listening to Peter Gabriel's "IN YOUR EYES" because the words are about creating a connection with his younger self.
I drill down to the meaning of the lyrics in relation to the art and science of healing your anxiety and alarm so you can understand create your own healing...

Protection vs Growth In Healing Anxiety
More of a reader? Catch the bullet points for this reel below:
- One of the most important questions to ask yourself is whether you see the world as a place of growth or protection.
- If you grew up in a stable environment, you probably see the world as a place of growth.
- However, if you experienced trauma, you likely see the world as a place of protection.
- These two perspectives are completely different and cannot coexist.
- Protection hinders growth, and growth eliminates protection.
- Most people with anxiety are in a state of protection.
The problem with protection is that it can lead to a victim mentality, which reinforces the need for protection.
- This creates a cycle that is difficult to break.
- To overcome this, it’s important to adopt a growth mentality.
- This starts with connecting more deeply with yourself and others.
- When you’re in a state of growth, you’re out of protection.
- And when you’re out of protection, you’re out of anxiety.

Secure Attachment Is Critical For Healing Anxiety
In this episode, I talk about attachment styles and how the core of secure attachment is the ability to trust love.
I discuss how the lack of attachment in my own childhood led to my sense of chronic alarm and the importance of attachment in my own healing from chronic anxiety and alarm, along with how developing a secure attachment to yourself is critical to the healing process.

Denial of Childhood Trauma
Blind denial in patients with anxiety is where they deny the pain of their childhood and insist that it was great or typical.
This denial is a coping mechanism that began in childhood, where you tell yourself that abuse or trauma is okay, and this pattern continues into adulthood.
It is important to recognize the impact of childhood trauma and the role of denial in preventing healing.

Healing Anxiety: The Importance of Embracing Your "INNER CHILD"
The concept of the “inner child” can be controversial and may trigger negative reactions in some individuals.
However, by avoiding this part of ourselves, we may be doing more harm than good.
My personal experience with anxiety and repression inspired me to write the book “Anxiety Rx”.
Through my book, I aim to help you understand the importance of addressing your younger wounded self (inner child) and provide tools for healing and managing anxiety.

Relationship between anxiety and victim mentality
Individuals who were not allowed to express their emotions as children may develop victim mentality, which can lead to anxiety as they perceive the world as oppressive and are unable to mobilize anger to protect themselves.
Victim mentality is a self-fulfilling prophecy and can be detrimental to those with anxiety.
Anxiety isn't just the thoughts of your mind
Anxiety is not solely caused by the thoughts of the mind, but rather by a childhood wounding pain alarm that is still stored in the body and being read by the mind.
The mind then creates a story to explain the pain, such as fear of a relationship ending or a child getting hurt, but the root cause is the child within that is hurting and needs to be addressed.
It is important to focus on healing the wounded younger self in order to overcome anxiety.

Giving up real self for attachment
Whenever you feel anxious or as I like to call it ALARMed, try to identify the physical sensations of alarm in the body rather than getting caught up in anxious thoughts.
Focusing on your worry or worst-case scenarios can exacerbate anxiety.
Instead, the focus should be on searching the body for physical sensations of alarm, such as in the throat, chest or belly.
Once these sensations are identified, steps can be taken to address the underlying causes of anxiety.
By doing this, you can avoid getting trapped in a cycle of anxious thoughts that can be difficult to break.

Conquer Anxiety By Being Grateful For It
In this episode, I discuss how connecting with the younger version of ourselves can help us deal with anxiety or trauma.
Our inner child sends a signal to us when we feel anxious, and we should be ***grateful*** for it.
When we show kindness and care to this younger version of ourselves, we can begin to feel better and *move away from anxiety*.
Lastly, I share a bit about my own experience and encourage you to connect with your inner child.

Giving up your authentic self for attachment
Children often feel pressure to conform to their parents expectations, even if it means giving up their own identity.
This can lead to anxiety and the development of a reactive self that causes alarm in the body.
The solution is to reconnect with the authentic self and release the reactive self.

The Relationship Between Anxiety and Intolerance To Uncertainty
This episode explores the relationship between anxiety and intolerance to uncertainty, which often stems from childhood trauma and a lack of control.
I emphasizes the importance of accepting and embracing uncertainty rather than attempting to make it more certain through worry and alarm.
You can begin to chip away at the root cause of your anxiety and develop a greater tolerance for uncertainty by becoming more aware of how uncertainty and alarm manifest in the body.

Answering Your #anxietyhealing Questions! Dr. Russell Kennedy, The Anxiety MD
In this episode of my podcast, Anxiety Rx, I answer some of your anxiety-related questions. The questions I answer in this episode are:
1. "When is ALARM a good thing and should be paid attention to?"
2. "Is there a way to "unlearn" the bodily feelings of anxiety? After I had my first panic attack my body remembered how it felt and now it goes straight to it when I'm stressed."
3. "How can I tell if I'm having an anxiety attack every time I feel pain or get sick, or if it's a genuine pain and illness?"
4. "What are your thoughts on practices to regulate the nervous system to help with alarm in the body?"
When I asked my Instagram audience for questions, I received hundreds, so I'll be making more episodes to answer as many as possible.
I hope you enjoyed this episode!

This Anxiety Habit Destroys Relationships
When we dont get our needs met as children, we collapse into ourselves and put up protective shields. If we don't see them, those shields stay there for the rest of our lives and create anxiety and damaged relationships. One such shield that is devastating for relationships is a term I learned from Developmental Psychologist Dr Gordon Neufeld called "Defensive Detachment" This video helps you see what it is, if you are doing it, and how you can stop this devastating habit.
