Lumberjill Outdoor and Survival Training School

Description

Designed with kids in mind, but useful for adults as well, we will go over basic to moderate-level outdoor survival skills. Many of these skills will cover badge components found in the AHG Girl Handbooks for all levels. My goal here is to help my own kids meet badge requirements, teach badge requirements, and more importantly, gain confidence in the outdoors. The outdoors is one of the best classroom environments that exist, and there are lessons and confidence-building learned "out there" that cannot be replicated in another environment. I often tell the girls I work with that, even if they never camp again a day in their life, post-AHG, when their lives get tough, rent and bills get expensive, and things are just "hard" (because let's face it, life is just hard sometimes), that they will have confidence knowing what they are capable of. They will know that they are strong, capable, and can survive for a few days, if necessary. That, for me, was enough of a confidence-booster to continue to push through hard days at work. The thought of "I don't HAVE to do this--I COULD pack up my backpack, sell the rest, go backpacking, and just be done with the rat race"--knowing I had options was enough to keep me going. I want this for the people I work with as well. Knowing that they can survive, if necessary, makes a plumbing issue or a power outage less of a big deal.
