2024 Ferrari Roma
2024 Ferrari Roma
Starting at $250.000 est
Highs: Beautiful design, more spacious than it looks, now available as a convertible.
Lows: Gearbox too eager for upshifts, featherweight steering, we can't afford it.
Verdict: The Roma is a rolling sculpture with a beauty that's both seen and felt.
Overview
The Roma is Ferrari's second V-8-powered front-engine coupe ever, following the now-discontinued GTC4Lusso T. It makes good use of a 612-hp twin-turbo V-8 and a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Its powertrain screams all the way up to its 7500-rpm redline. From the driver's seat, the cabin is fitted with a nearly all-digital interface. While the Roma does have back seats, they're mostly there in spirit instead of actual use, but it does feel surprisingly spacious inside. This quarter-million-dollar Ferrari will use its hundreds of prancing horses to summon butterflies in your stomach.
What's New for 2024?
Ferrari rolls out the fabric top for the 2024 Roma, adding a new convertible Spider variant. The automaker claims the droptop adds just 185 pounds to the coupe, raising or lowering in just 13.5 seconds at speeds up to 37 mph.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Coupe: $250,000 (est)
Spider: $280,000 (est)
It's mostly window shopping, but if we were lucky enough to indulge in Roma ownership, we'd stick with the coupe and paint it Verde British green, an available historical color. There are six wheel options, and we think the darker matte Grigio Corsa wheels look sharp with equally darker paint. Interior color options are nearly limitless, available in both single-color and two-tone motifs with Rosso Ferrari leather trim. There's really no wrong choice here, except of course for Nero black, which feels way too corporate.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Stuffed under the Roma's lengthy hood and mounted near the middle of the car is a turbocharged 3.9-liter V-8 that makes 612 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) that debuted on the even more exotic Ferrari SF90 Stradale. While we've had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Roma, we haven't had a chance to test its performance at the track. Still, our drive taught us that this Ferrari can be enjoyed both during a nonchalant cruise or when raced around winding corners. Its high-revving V-8 produces glorious sounds, and the DCT quickly adapts to requests for snappy gearchanges—especially when you turn the drive mode dial to Sport or Race. While its steering was light on effort, we appreciated the helm's directness and precision.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Stitched together with leather and swathed in faux suede, the Roma's interior mixes upscale materials with a unique layout. Each front-seat passenger is cocooned by a sweeping dashboard that flows into the doors and floating center console. The driver faces a giant 16-inch fully digital gauge cluster that responds to haptic controls on the Roma's button-heavy, flat-bottom steering wheel. A pair of rear seats make it a 2+2 coupe, and the space is actually suitable for adults in short spurts as long the front seats are properly adjusted. Unlike most other Ferrari models, the Roma has a large center section, just don't expect its interior cubby storage to be plentiful.

Range Rover 2024
2024 Land Rover Range Rover
Starting at $108.875
Highs: Looks like money, polished and posh interior, plenty of powertrain options.
Lows: Priced for the gods, plug-in hybrid limited to Autobiography trim, third-row space is tight.
Verdict: Comfortable enough for a cross-continent tour and rugged enough for a trail ride, the Range Rover is a jack-of-all-trades SUV with a price tag to match.
Overview
The Range Rover has been the SUV of choice for celebrities and wealthy elites for decades, but even though it pampers its passengers like a luxury car it still offers off-road capability that means it can venture well off the red carpet. All models come with all-wheel drive, an adjustable air suspension, and plenty of ground clearance. You can choose between inline-six, plug-in-hybrid, and V-8 powertrains. You can also deck the Range Rover out with all manner of luxury features, including massaging seats in both rows, rear bucket seats, power-deployable rear-seat tray tables, and a beverage chiller. No matter which version you choose you'll pay a six-figure price, which means the Range Rover automatically costs more than entry-level versions of rivals such as the Cadillac Escalade, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. But it's exactly all of this obvious extravagance that attracts the Range Rover's image-obsessed buyers, and after sampling several variants of this latest generation of the luxury SUV, we can see why.
What's New for 2024?
It's still early in the Range Rover's fifth generation, but already Land Rover has tweaked the powertrain lineup for 2024. The plug-in-hybrid P440e has been replaced with a more powerful P550e which makes 542 horsepower. P400 and P530 models see no changes to their horsepower ratings, but the top-spec SV model is now powered by a 606-hp V-8 engine that wears the P615 moniker. Elsewhere, Land Rover has introduced a new customization service called SV Bespoke which provides buyers more opportunities for personalization when building their dream Range Rover. To help draw attention to its SV Bespoke program, Land Rover revealed an ultra-exclusive Carmel Edition model during the 2023 Monterey Car Week event in California. The $371,475 special edition features Cream Ash Burr and white ceramic interior trim, pearl oyster accents, two-tone leather upholstery, specially-embroidered cushions, and unique 23-inch wheels with white inserts. The result is fairly spectacular; only seven will be built.

2024 Aston Martin DBX
2024 Aston Martin DBX
Starting at $200.086
Highs: Stunning exterior and interior, great to drive for an SUV, wider bandwidth than other Astons.
Lows: Regular model is slower than rivals, brake pedal is as soft as Charmin, where are all the modern driver assists?
Verdict: The DBX has unique traits not found on other Astons—or most other SUVs, for that matter.
What's New for 2024?
The DBX lineup carries over unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
DBX: $200,086
DBX 707: $245,086
Aston Martin provides an impressive number of personalization options for the DBX, especially through its Q customization service. The company's online configurator shows several different appearance packages. We're partial to the standard DBX with the Accelerate interior theme, with its mix of leather and faux suede and the Sports Plus seats. On the outside, we'd choose the pretty Minotaur Green paint as well as the 22-inch black-and-bronze Ribbon wheels. We'd also opt for the tow package, the power tailgate, and the Sports Exhaust system that lets us better enjoy the engine's music.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The regular DBX is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine supplied by Mercedes-AMG. The engine makes 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission, also supplied by Mercedes. The DBX 707 features a revised version of the AMG powertrain that generates 697 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. Its nine-speed automatic uses a wet-clutch pack instead of the torque converter used by the standard transmission. While the DBX is fundamentally rear-wheel drive, a center transfer case sends torque to the front axle when slippage is detected at the rear. It also has a limited-slip rear differential and can tow up to 5940 pounds. Adaptive dampers and height-adjustable air springs come standard on the Aston—a boon for off-road adventuring. The DBX we tested rushed to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, which is respectable for a hot SUV, but the Lamborghini Urus and other rivals are notably quicker. The DBX 707 was much quicker and hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The version we drove on England's best roads showcased the engine's lusty soundtrack and the transmission's unobtrusive operation. Thanks to a diverse set of drive modes, its chassis demonstrated a broad range of demeanors, from refined and relaxed to responsive and playful. Despite its short 157-foot stop from 70 mph, the ute suffered from an unresponsive brake pedal.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The DBX shares a lot of its switchgear with the rest of the Aston Martin family. The cabin is covered in attractively stitched leather, soft-touch surfaces, and a microsuede headliner. The ute comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, customizable ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, and heated front and rear seats. Desirable options include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a variety of even fancier cabin materials. Rear-seat space is ample, with plenty of knee and headroom for adults. There's a good amount of cargo volume, too, with 22 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat and 54 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

2024 Genesis G90
2024 Genesis G90
Starting at $91.000
Highs: Class-appropriate design and interior-material quality, quiet and smooth ride, simple two-tier pricing structure with plenty of standard features.
Lows: Handling dynamics trail the best from Europe, no wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto capability, a lingering lack of brand recognition.
Verdict: No longer playing catch-up, the G90 now stands on its own merits as a worthy alternative to the famous-label luxury sedans—at a more attractive price.
Overview
Redesigned for 2023, the 2024 Genesis G90 continues in its role as the automaker's flagship and most luxurious sedan. The styling bears a familial resemblance to the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV, primarily in its stacked gun-slit headlamps and modified pentagonal grille, but the G90 retains a few unique identifiers to signal its status. Power is provided by a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, but a high-output 409-hp version fitted with an electric supercharger in addition to the turbos is available for buyers looking for maximum thrust. Both provide the type of smooth, velvety power required to compete in the class, and the opulent cabin follows through on the promise. Nappa leather upholstery is standard, as are massaging front seats and genuine wood trim. Unexpected features include an onboard fragrance diffuser that can fill the space with a relaxing scent while an air purifier works to prevent odors from outside from filtering in. The G90 provides a ride-and-handling balance worthy of an executive sedan, but the chassis tuning is just a tad less sharp than the best from Europe.
What's New for 2024?
Fully redesigned for 2023, the G90 carries over to 2024 with minimal changes.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Base: $91,000 (est)
E-supercharged: $100,000 (est)
A significant price jump accompanied the G90's 2023 redesign, but it still undercuts European competitors the Mercedes-Benz S-class and most BMW 7-series models. Plus, both G90 models come fully stocked, leaving exterior and interior colors the primary order-sheet concerns. The chief G90 buyer decision is whether to spring for the more powerful turbocharged and supercharged version or stay with the base model. Of course, we'd pick the latter. The approximately $10k upcharge represents about 10 percent of the overall purchase price, which in this high-ambition segment is a stone-cold deal. In addition to the added power, it also brings an air suspension, reclining rear seats with heat, ventilation, and massage, and upgraded audio.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Part of the 2023 redesign objective was to bring the G90's interior up to par with rivals such as the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series. The entirely new design pairs with posh materials and a host of standard features. Passenger space is generous in both the front and the back seats, Nappa leather is standard, as are ventilated-and-heated front seats with massage function, power sunshades, active noise cancellation technology and premium audio. There's also an onboard fragrance diffuser, for example, and an anti-microbial sanitation system that cleans the air, according to Genesis. G90 E-supercharged models get reclining rear seats with ventilation and a massage function.

2024 Audi S8
2024 Audi S8
Starting at $121.695
Highs: Potent twin-turbo V-8, deluxe cabin, agility-boosting rear-wheel steering.
Lows: Not particularly fuel efficient, sedate styling, six-figure price tag.
Verdict: The S8 combines sports sedan handling and luxury car splendor in a stealthy package.
Overview
Even though it wears a plus-size wardrobe, the 2024 Audi S8 handles curves like a much smaller sports sedan. Based on the A8 luxury sedan, the S8 ups the ante with trick performance features such as rear-wheel steering and a torque-vectoring rear differential to achieve handling heroics. On top of all that, it swaps the A8's V-6 for a twin-turbo V-8 with 563 horsepower. The roomy cabin is ideal for relaxing while covering long distances, so you get the best of both worlds. A host of high-tech features provides plenty of opportunity for connectivity, but if you want to tune out the outside world, there's no better way to do that than to open it up and let that V-8 sing. The S8's athleticism is rare in the large luxury sedan segment, and its only real competitors are the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo and the Mercedes-AMG S63, both of which cost quite a bit more.
What's New for 2024?
Like the regular A8 sedan, the S8 gains an app-based remote-start feature for 2024 as well as a new suite of apps designed to improve access to entertainment and navigation. Otherwise, the S8 is unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Fine materials line nearly every square inch of the S8's cabin, including leather upholstery, a faux-suede headliner, and a stitched leather dash cover. The front seats offer standard heating, cooling, and massage, while the rear cabin offers tons of space for passengers to stretch out. To pamper those in the back seat even more, consider the Rear Seat Comfort package, which adds power-adjustable outboard seats with heat, ventilation, and massage, plusher headrests, heated armrests, and a remote control for the car's infotainment system. Four-zone automatic climate control is standard, as is a multi-color ambient interior lighting system. The trunk is generously sized and identical to that of the A8, which proved its mettle in our testing by holding six carry-on suitcases. For comparison the Mercedes-Benz S-class held 5 and the BMW 7-series just three.

BMW M4
With two fewer doors and sleeker proportions, the 2020 BMW M4 is a sportier-looking alternative to the M3 sedan. Still, these German siblings have a lot in common, including heady performance numbers. Both feature a brilliant twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that is as refined as it is powerful, and their "M" designation means they're descendants of BMW's storied subdivision. Available as a coupe or convertible, the M4 is zestier than the regular 4-series. While its cornering grip and stopping power are as impressive as any, the two-door Bimmer doesn't reward its driver as much as its forebearers. Despite this shortcoming, the 2020 M4 has the pedigree and stats to attract enthusiasts.

2024 Mercedes-AMG S63
2024 Mercedes-AMG S63
Starting at $190.000 est
Highs: Lightning-quick acceleration, opulent interior finishings, handles like a much smaller sedan.
Lows: Short electric-only range, regenerative braking system lacks true one-pedal drive mode, eye-popping price tag.
Verdict: With sports car performance and luxury car comfort, the S63 represents the peak of AMG engineering.
Overview
It missed a year of production, but the AMG S63 supersedan is back in a major way. Making use of the Mercedes-Benz S-class’s seventh-generation architecture, the S63 brings the glitz with more go than ever thanks to a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mercedes has dropped the previously offered coupe and convertible body styles and will offer the S63 as a sedan only, at least for now. Under the bonnet sits a familiar twin-turbo V-8 that, with the help of AMG’s rear electric motor, now produces a combined 791 horsepower and an astounding 1055 pound-feet of torque for its all-wheel drive system to try to put to the road. To ensure the S63 can get to speeds high enough to escape rising interest rates, AMG will allow its big-battery luxury sedan to reach speeds up to 180 mph. As a chariot for the wealthy with maximum performance in mind, the new AMG S63 is a quick and comfy way to usher in the industry’s electrified future.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
While the massive horsepower will warm the hearts of enthusiasts, the AMG S63’s priorities include comfort. It sports an opulent cabin with distinctive AMG upholstery and stitching. A Dolby Atmos audio system comes standard and offers a 360-degree audio experience. The car’s 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster provides a bright and clear roster of driving info, but the real magic happens on the standard 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen that’s vertically mounted on the dashboard. Road noise cancelation and rich interior materials make the S63 an experience most only taste from limos. Headrest pillows for rear passengers and an abundance of legroom make a strong argument for the S63 as a fantastic car to be chauffeured in as well as a great one to experience from the driver’s seat.
