Visiting a World Top 100 Beach in the Algarve, Portugal: Praia da Marinha (Marinha Beach). This place was seriously one of our favourite spots in all of the Algarve and if you're staying in Carvoeiro, Albufeira, or anywhere else nearby... this should be on your list! As it was our last day, we decided to have a more chilled one and head to our favourite beach of the whole trip. We left Carvoeiro and did the short drive to Praia da Marinha (Marinha Beach) where we were lucky to get a space in the (free!) car park. Before going down the steps to the beach, we walked along part of the hiking trail atop the cliffs and checked out the beautiful, calm, blue ocean from this vantage point. We were also able to see the heart shape carved out of the rocks and cliffs and snap a quick picture. Hannah was less impressed than I was 😂 After this we headed down to the beach with a stop in the cafe on the way. We LOVED the toasties here - partially because of the amount of butter they use - and we wanted to get one last one before heading home. Most of the rest of the day was spent relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming on the beach. I also got the drone up for some epic aerial shots of Praia da Marinha, and these are definitely some of my favourite from this whole trip in the Algarve. What a difference it makes when the sea is calmer and not being churned up by big waves (as we'd had for the rest of the week)! Getting off the beaten track in the Algarve, Portugal, and into the mountains. We visit the quiet town of Monchique and then visit Mount Fóia, the highest point in the Algarve. We started our day with a tasty brunch in Carvoeiro in a place called Earth Cafe. Hannah had the breakfast skillet and I had a breakfast burrito. A great way to start the day... apart from the insanely HAWT hot sauce! After this we went on a little road trip into the mountains up to Monchique, a nice quiet town up in the heights of the Algarve. We had a wander around and got chatting to a local man who told us to head up to the derelict convent. Unfortunately, we couldn't venture inside but the views were beautiful. We then made our way to the highest point in the Algarve, Mount Fóia, at 902m with views over the whole region and beyond. It was super windy and hazy so I couldn't fly the drone but we got ourselves some toasties and made friends with a mountain doggo. Visiting one of the most iconic spots in the Algarve, Portugal, Benagil Cave & trying typical Portuguese food and drink: pão com choriço, steak on a stone, Algarve orange juice, and of course pastel de nata! We started our day with a wonderful cave tour with CarvoieroCaves.com, starting by passing the Carvoeiro Boardwalk and Algar Seco with its dramatic limestone formations. Here we saw A Boneca, a cave ending with a window out to the ocean. We also got to sail right into some extraordinary caves, including the renowned Benagil cave with its collapsed roof and interior beach. After the Carvoeiro Caves boat tour we headed over to Portimão to try some delicious Portuguese baked goods as recommended to us by our waiter from the previous evening. The pão com choriço was just like a pizza in my opinion! Some of the best things to do in the Algarve, Portugal: Benagil Cave, Praia da Marinha (Marinha Beach), Praia & Arco de Albandeira and Portuguese tapas. We were on our way to Carvoeiro Beach when we got a text to let us know that the seas had been too rough for us to be able to go on our Benagil Cave tour. As we were out already we instead revisited Algar Seco and saw Aboneca, a gorgeous rock formation including a cave and windows out to the ocean. We then drove to Benagil where we attenmpted (unsuccessfully) to hire a kayak in order to visit the famous Benagil Cave. In the end we just saw it from above and made our way a little further down the coast to Praia da Marinha (Marinha Beach). This has been voted one of the top 100 beaches in the world and we could see why! It was our favourite beach that we visited on our whole trip in the Algarve. After flying the drone and getting a super tasty toastie at the cafe, we went even further down the coast to Praia de Albandeira (Albandeira Beach) and Arco de Albandeira (Albandeira Arch). This is a stunning formation that just got more and more beautiful with the sunset and the golden hour lighting. We headed back to Carvoeiro for a delicious Portuguese tapas dinner including flaming (literally) chorizo, cuttlefish, garlic mushrooms, pork, breads, and a sweet chorizo scramble. Delicious!! Date night in Carvoeiro: the Sky Bar, exploring the caves, Portuguese piri piri chicken, sunset and cocktails! We tried to get a drink at the well-known Boneca Bar but after struggling to get servide we decided to instead enjoy the local caves and rock formations of Algar Seco. Hannah had another bar in mind to visit so we headed to the Sky Bar, where we had some tasty drinks. Although they were nice, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the place as they tried to make it seem too exclusive and made people wait behind a red rope for a long while despite there being tables available. They then didn't let people sit on the front tables unless they bought a €90 bottle of Champagne or put up a bar tab for the same amount. For these reasons, we decided to stay for just the one and then headed back to our apartment, where we actually got a better view of the sunset anyway! We then went into Carvoeiro town to Restaurante A Fonte for some of the famous Algarve piri piri chicken and it did not disappoint! Stay tuned for more vlogs! Some of the best things to do in Lagos, Portugal: wander the old town and get possibly the best pastel de nata ever, check out the marina, stand in awe at Ponte de Piedade, relax on the beaches and get a tasty meal to finish the day! We started our day walking through the old town of Lagos, checking out the beautiful buildings and stopping at a lovely cafe (called Adoce A Vida) for delicious iced coffees and pastéis de nata. We drank and ate while sitting on the street and enjoyed the natas so much that we had to order two more! Next up Han took us to the marina and to get a takeaway lunch from Pom Pom Bagels (to eat later at the beach). We then got out of the town and went to the famous Ponte de Piedade where we stood awestruck at the other-worldly rock formations. Ponte de Piedade was definitely one of my favourite places to fly the drone too - although it was a very windy day! After this we went to another top rated attraction within easy distance of Lagos town centre: Praia do Camilo. We walked down to the sand and then through a tunnel carved into the rock to find a perfect place to sit and eat the bagels we'd bought back in Lagos. The sun moved round and most of the beaches became pretty shaded due to their position facing east, so we chased the sun further back round the coast to Meia Praia, an absolute expanse of soft white sand. For sunset we headed back up to Ponte de Piedade and enjoyed the glorious views of the Portuguese coast as night faded in. We rounded off the day at a delicious Portuguese/Italian tapas restaurant, Mangi, back in the town centre. We enjoyed glasses of vinho verde (our new favourite!) and had olives, a huge focacchia with 18-month cured meat on it, bruschetta with a salad, cheese and a garlic and parsley sauce, and shrimp. Some of the best things to do in the Algarve: visit possibly the prettiest town in Portugal, Ferragudo, eat Pastel de Nata, go to famous Alvor and search for the wild flamingoes. After breakfast in our beautiful apartment in Carvoeiro we jumped in our rental car and made our way to beautiful Ferragudo. We stopped by a little shop and bought some little bits before heading on to a cafe with really friendly staff where we got two coffees and a Pastel de Nata each. These are particularly well-known Portuguese cakes and they were delicious. The coffees and the cakes cost us €4 total! We checked out the water front and got some great drone shots of Ferragudo. We also sat to watch the world go by, spotting the cormorants, watching freshly-caught fish get grilled and seeing a cat stalk some gulls. We drove on to Alvor, another nice Portuguese town (that was recommended to us by a lady in Birmingham International Airport) where we had a delicious lunch with some small plates (breads, codfish terrine, octopus salad) and a wonderful tuna dish. From here we went onto A Rocha Delicada in the hope of seeing some of the wild birds that stop there - including ospreys, oystercatchers, egrets, herons and flamingoes. I was particularly hoping to see some flamingoes and we were lucky enough to spot a whole flamboyance! The sunset was incredible and we were treated to some pink skies. Stay tuned for more vlogs! Our first day in Carvoeiro, a beautiful coastal town on the Portuguese coast in the Algarve. We visited the beautiful caves and Carvoeiro Beach (Praia do Carvoeiro). We spent the morning doing a big shop at the local Aldi and filling our fridge. Hannah made us a tasty picky lunch for us to eat on our balcony and we sampled the bottle of €1.50 wine that we bought. Super yummy! We then headed down to the caves that we'd spotted from Carvoeiro Boardwalk the previous evening and explored them. After I flew the drone and got some nice aerial shots we walked to Carvoeiro Beach (Praia do Carvoeiro) and went swimming in the slightly rough ocean. After another stunning sunset, we went for some delicious Italian food and wine at Primavera Trattoria, close to our apartment. Stay tuned for more vlogs! Our first impressions & apartment tour in Carvoeiro, a beautiful coastal town on the Portuguese coast in the Algarve. We traveled from Birmingham to Faro where we picked up our hire car and drove to Carvoeiro. We had a morning flight from Birmingham International Airport to Faro in the Algarve, Portugal. The flight was 2 hours 50 minutes and we went with Ryanair. After collecting our luggage, we were greeted by a representative of the company we booked our hire car with. A short wait, some paperwork, and a check of the fiat panda later and we were on the road for the 60km journey to Carvoeiro town. The drive was pretty easy - just one road until we turned off to get to Carvoeiro! We arrived at our apartment complex, found our home for the next week and a half and checked out our pretty apartment with a glorious balcony. After a quick visit to the shop for some snacks we found our way own to the Carvoeiro Boardwalk in time for the golden hour light. We strolled towards town and stopped at one of the platforms carved into the cliff face to watch a stunning sunset and fly the drone for some tasty aerial footage of Carvoeiro. When the sun had set, we walked down the steps to the restaurants next to the beach and got a couple of drinks and some delicious loaded fries before heading back to the apartment. A review of the Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England whilst making my way home. Day 5: Sunderland-Birmingham - saying goodbye to the rest of Team Low Rider and making my way from Sunderland to Durham and on to Birmingham. We had a chilled morning in Sunderland and then said our goodbyes before I cycled to Durham (it made most sense for me to get my train from here but I wasn’t super pleased about it after the previous four days!). The route had some nice views and then some heart in mouth moments as Google Maps tool me on a VERY fast dual carriageway. We made it! Sunderland was the last stop on our Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England! Day 4: Consett-Sunderland - around 46km of cycling in some really bad weather! We climbed out of Consett and made our way in some awful rain closer and closer to Sunderland. Although there wasn't too much elevation or distance in store for us, the weather took it's toll and the journey took longer than I imagine it would have done in the sun! One flat en route but we made it to Sunderland and dipped our front tyres in the sea, as is tradition! We stayed in The Hilton Garden Inn right next to the Stadium of Light and, as it was match day, we were able to get food from the burger vans easily for lunch. Continuing through the Pennines from the Lake District on our Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England! Day 3: Alston-Consett - cycling through the North Pennines. After a great night in the Youth Hostel in Alston, we began a tough day with lots of hills. First we climbed to get out of Alston and then came down a glorious stretch… only to find we had to go straight back up a 19% incline. BOY was that steep! Possibly the hardest climb I’ve ever done on the bike… We met a nice kid called Paul and his friend and their dads en route. He named all of our bikes - mine was crowned Milo. Not quite as cool as Neptune or Sky Racer but we can’t have everything eh?! Into Northumberland and then County Durham with some gorgeous views and infuriating pub closures in Rookhope and Eastgate. Finally we got some food in Stanhope before another gruelling climb up Crawleyside Bank - which the waitress had just told us was “basically suicide hill for cyclists”. Into the Pennines from the Lake District on our Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England! Day 2: Greystoke-Alston - cycling out of the Lake District and into the North Pennines. We got a bagel breakfast at our B&B in Greystoke and set off on a rather miserable day. We stopped in Penrith to pick up some snacks before heading on some more nice country roads. Soggy but happy, we carried on over the river and stopped by Long Meg & Her Daughters, the second biggest stone circle in the UK. Long Meg Stone Circle dates back to the Bronze Age (about 1500 BC) and consists of 59 stones and has a diameter of 106m. The tallest stone, Long Meg, stands at around four metres.We stopped for lunch in Melmerby and stocked up on calories before the big climb of the day up to Hartside Summit at an altitude of 1903 feet. Finally time to do the Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England! Day 1: Whitehaven-Greystoke - around 80km of cycling from the coast into the Lake District with a lunch stop in Keswick. We got a cooked breakfast at our hotel in Whitehaven and then headed out to dip our tyres in the sea of the west coast (as is tradition!). Luckily, I didn’t fall in/drop my bike - which seemed a very real possibility on the slippy edge. We joined the cycle path out of Whitehaven and got en route to the Lake District. One flat tyre on the way but we made it - passing by some beautiful, mystical mountain and lake scenes shrouded in cloud. We stopped for lunch in Keswick and I went to Jan’s Lakeland Sandwich Shop before we checked out Derwentwater. Then it was the final push up to Greystoke - where Conor encountered a dagger of a stone and had to rush back to Keswich to a bike shop to get a new tyre. Finally, we made it to our B&B in Greystoke and, as we hadn’t booked a table at The Boot and Shoe in advance, we had to get some food to take away and eat back at our B&B. Not the easiest of things to do with my suspected rotator cuff tear (sustained during a Tough Mudder race just two days prior), but the journey consisted of a short cycle from the flat to Birmingham New Street, a 1.5 hour train to Preston, a 3 hour train to Whitehavaen, and another short cycle to our hotel. We found paradise in the UK on Anglesey Island in North Wales! Come with us as we explore secluded coves and walk on the footpath around the island. This is Welsh island life at its best! We packed up at our B&B, a massive dairy farm, and drove to a beautiful area in the north of Anglesey, Church Bay. Here we walked along the Anglesey coastal path until we reached a secluded cove where we paddled and I put my coastal foraging knowledge to the test. Spoiler: it didn’t taste how I thought it was going to 😂 we then went for a swim before heading back to Wavecrest Cafe for a delicious lunch. We drove on to Cemaes where we wandered around the town before finishing our North Wales trip in the beautiful Red Wharf Bay. After our hike to the top of Snowdon, we deserved a chill day at possibly the most beautiful beach in Wales - Llanddwyn/ Newborough Beach. Not only that but we managed to see puffins in the UK - something I've wanted to do for a really long time! Want to see some of the best things to do in Anglesey? Come with us to the beaches and beauty spots while travelling in beautiful North Wales. We started the day with a full English at our hotel before heading out to Llanddwyn/ Newborough Beach. A vast expanse of sand with views over Snowdonia National Park, this has to be one of the best beaches in all of Wales! After a couple of drone flights, an encounter with a crab and a jellyfish sting that Rachel found hilarious, we drove on to our B&B for the night on a massive dairy farm. After a delicious dinner we headed to South Stack Lighthouse and viewpoint, an RSPB site with a tremendous amount of seabirds making an incredible racket. We hiked the highest mountain in Wales - Mount Snowdon (in Welsh:Yr Wyddfa) in Snowdonia National Park! At 1,085 metres elevation, the view was incredible! We headed to the Llanberis Path and did the most gradual path up to the summit, with the Snowdon Railway trains passing us. The nine-mile round trip afforded us with stunning views of the many peaks in Snowdonia National Park, loads of lakes, and even the beaches on the north coast of Wales in the distance. After finishing the hike, we headed back to our hotel for a pint and headed out to watch the sunset at Traeth Crigyll, Rhosneigr on the island of Anglesey in North Wales, before having a long and well-deserved sleep!Stay tuned for more vlogs from North Wales! We headed to Kinder Scout and did one of the most famous walks in the whole area, involving scrambling up to the highest point in the Peak District, walking along the Kinder Scout Plateau, and heading back down Jacob’s Ladder. After a pint we headed back to Manor House Farm Cottages, where we celebrated Suey and Stevie’s wedding anniversary, before I headed off to Wales for a job the next day. We went hiking to Bakewell in the Peak District, Derbyshire - a very pretty English town! After a cooked breakfast and some fun times visiting the pigs of the farm, we headed out for ice creams in the lovely town of Ashford in the Water. From here we hiked to historic Bakewell, where we tried the famous Bakewell Pudding, and learned the difference between it and it’s better-known counterpart: the Bakewell Tart. Both are delicious, but for me I think the pudding wins out! After a browse round the shops of the town and getting some beautiful aerial footage of Bakewell (drone shots of the Peak District are so pretty!), we headed back to the Thornbridge Brewery for some well-deserved pints and pizzas. We headed back to Manor House Farm Cottages and finished the day with a beautiful sunset. What are the best things to do in Cornwall? Should you visit Lands End? Is Porthcurno the most beautiful beach in England? Why is the Minack Theatre so special? What on Earth Nanjizal Beach?! Find out this and so much more in this video! We started our day with a drive to Porthcurno, right on the south coast of Cornwall, and were amazed by the white sand and turquoise sea at Porthcurno Beach. We walked a little further on the coastal path and ended up at Rowena Cade’s Minack Theatre, carved into the cliff face with incredible dramatic views of the British coastline. We got some beautiful drone shots of Porthcurno and the Minack Theatre before heading to the most westerly point of mainland England: the famous Land’s End! We saw the signpost and then walked back along the coastal path to Nanjizal Cove Beach. This was another beautiful little spot with only two other people there… although at this point it started to rain so we rushed back to the car before the storm settled in! We went coastal foraging with Craig Evans in Pembrokeshire, Wales, for a massive seafood catch! Check out The Garden Shed and Y Polyn, Carmarthenshire! We started the day by saying goodbye to our tiny home accommodation in Ceredigion before heading off to Stumble Head in Pembrokeshire! On the way we found a cute little honesty shop on the side of the road so we stopped to buy some locally made jams and chutneys (and of course enjoyed the beautiful view). We drove down a winding road and parked next to Stumble Head lighthouse, where we sat on a perfectly placed bench, saw some lovely seals and got some drone shots of Pembrokeshire. After lunch we continued to walk along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and saw some huge jellyfish - but not the orcas that we had been told had very rarely been spotted off the the Pembrokeshire coast. We arrived at our next accommodation in Carmarthenshire, Baytree Cottage Bed & Breakfast, and it was lovely. After a few minutes sitting and watching the birds it was time for us to go to Y Polyn, a very well-renowned restaurant in the area. It certainly didn’t disappoint! Want to see some of the best things in West Wales? Come on a tour of Ceredigion while travelling in Wales. Where should you stay in Ceredigion? Check out Wildernest Wales! We started the day with a walk around our tiny home accommodation before heading off in the drizzle to Llangranog beach and Cilborth Cove in Ceredigion! After a walk on the beach to find some caves, we saw Carreg Bica, a large stack of rock on the beach that (according to local legend) was once the tooth of a local giant. We walked on the coastal path to get a view of Cilborth cove and then drove further along the Welsh coast to New Quay, where we had a delicious fish and chips lunch from the well-known Lime Crab. New Quay is known as being a great place to spot dolphins and you can also see seals and porpoises. We were lucky enough to see some dolphins leaping out of the water before walking along on of New Quay’s beaches. For dinner we headed to The Cellar in picturesque Aberaeron and it was amazing!
