Look to the skies! That bright red “star” is Mars 🔴.
🔭 If you have a telescope or even basic binoculars, you’ll also be able to spot the galaxy of Andromeda, or M31, a spiral galaxy similar to our own Milky Way but slightly larger. Keep watching for more tips!

Artemis II: Meet the Astronauts Who will Fly Around the Moon (Official NASA Video)
Four astronauts have been selected for NASA’s Artemis II mission: Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialist Christina Koch from NASA, and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
Artemis II will be NASA’s first crewed flight test of the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft around the Moon to verify today’s capabilities for humans to explore deep space and pave the way for long-term exploration and science on the lunar surface.

Artemis II: Mission Overview
The approximately 10-day Artemis II flight test will launch on the agency’s powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, prove the Orion spacecraft’s life-support systems, and validate the capabilities and techniques needed for humans to live and work in deep space.
The astronauts will launch from NASA Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39B atop the SLS rocket as it generates 8.8 million pounds of thrust, beginning their 600,000 mile journey. Once out of our atmosphere, these star sailors will conduct a targeting demonstration and check the Orion spacecraft’s systems near Earth before they head around the Moon and back to Earth, reentering our atmosphere at 30 times the speed of sound, before gently splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
Artemis II's crew is comprised of NASA astronauts commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch; and Canadian Space Agency astronaut and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen.

Moving Water in Space 8K Ultra HD
Water in space behaves… differently. Surface tension and capillary flow can be harnessed to move fluids in more efficient ways. What looks like fun could actually help us improve systems for moving fluids in microgravity, in things like fuel tanks for space travel. Find out more about fluid physics in space in our researcher’s guide:

How We Are Going to the Moon 4K
While Apollo placed the first steps on the Moon, Artemis opens the door for humanity to sustainably work and live on another world for the first time. Using the lunar surface as a proving ground for living on Mars, this next chapter in exploration will forever establish our presence in the stars. ✨ We are returning to the Moon – to stay – and this is how we are going! Actress Kelly Marie Tran of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” lent her voice to this project.

Expedition 69 Space Station Flies Over Hurricane Idalia Live
External cameras on the International Space Station captured views of a strengthening Hurricane Idalia at 11:35 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023 as the station flew 260 miles overhead. Idalia was located over the eastern Gulf of Mexico southwest of Florida at the time of the flyover as a Category 1 storm with winds of 85 miles an hour, moving north toward an expected landfall around the Big Bend area of Florida on August 30 as a Category 3 hurricane, or stronger, that could produce a life-threatening storm surge, according to the National Hurricane Center.

HURRICANE IDALIA IS SEEN FROM THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION AFTER LANDFALL
External cameras on the International Space Station captured views of Hurricane Idalia at 10:35 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, as the station flew 260 miles overhead. Idalia made landfall just before 8 a.m. near Keaton Beach, Florida, along the state’s Big Bend region as a Category 3 storm packing winds of 125 miles an hour. Idalia had peaked to a Category 4 storm with 130 mile per hour winds prior to landfall. The system is moving to the north-northeast at 18 miles an hour, heading for the southeast United States and then out over the Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Meet Andreas Mogensen, Crew-7 Pilot
Crew-7’s pilot is Andreas Mogensen, the Copenhagen, Denmark native who was selected as an ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut in 2009 and became the first Danish citizen in space after launching aboard a Soyuz for a 10-day mission to the space station in 2015. He completed undergraduate studies and received a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College London in England before gaining his doctorate in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Mogensen has since served as a crew member for NEEMO (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations) missions and was the European astronaut liaison officer to NASA's Johnson Space Center from 2016-2022, working as a CAPCOM for astronauts aboard the station and as ground support for spacewalks, relaying tasks and direction from mission control to the spacewalkers.

Where Are the Moon Rocks? We Asked a NASA Expert
Where are the Moon rocks from the Apollo missions kept? When they’re not being studied by institutions or enjoyed by museumgoers, NASA has a specialized Lunar Sample Curation Laboratory at NASA’s Johnson Space Center to store and keep these otherworldly samples safe. Studying these samples helps us learn more about the origin of not only our moon, but our planet. Deputy Apollo Sample Curator (Sept 2019 – Dec 2022) Dr. Juliane Gross explains more about lunar sample curation.
