First published as a newspaper in 1865, The Sportsman quickly established a reputation for not only housing some of the nation’s finest writers, but also for shaping one of today’s great sporting institutions: then Football Association secretary, Charles W Alcock, wrote for the paper and in 1871 he held a meeting at The Sportsman’s offices to create the world’s first national football tournament – the FA Cup was born! Today, The Sportsman is a multi-platform digital publication and our passion for great sports content remains as strong now as it did 150 years ago.
