The event makes it the first U.S. asteroid sample return. The touchdown will mark the end of a seven-year journey to explore asteroid Bennu, collect a sample from its surface, and deliver it to Earth for study. Scientists around the world will study the sample over the coming decades to learn about how our planet and solar system formed, as well as the origin of organics that may have led to life on Earth.

After nearly six months aboard the International Space Station, the astronauts of NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 mission take questions from media and the public before their upcoming return to Earth, currently scheduled for Sept. 2, 2023. An international crew is preparing to launch to the International Space Station aboard NASA’s SpaceX Crew-7 mission. Crew-7 is targeted to launch no earlier than 3:27 a.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 26 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy. As part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program, Crew-7 marks the eighth human spaceflight mission supported by a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and the seventh crew rotation mission to the space station since 2020 for NASA.
