Colonel Vipers Whipstic Band- That Cat Is High
Live and Unplugged this is the 2nd of a short set in the beer garden of the Golden Vine Hotel Autumn 2021.
Unhistorical Fact.... Doctor Bogg notes. "During the U.S. prohibition Jay Williams was on the hunt for booze and acts to sign. Noted for his tactics of getting musos drunk before signing contracts we thought we'd play a little trick on him when he stumbled upon us in the Whipstick. We proceeded to get him so intoxicated on our moonshine that he would sign his catalogue over to us. It all went pear-shaped and I was summoned to give him the once-over. "Boys." I remarked " That cat is high. Look at that look in his eye." I continued to watch over him, taking notes, until he finally passed out."
"We were really worried he'd hurt himself." adds General Nuisance. "Running off barefooted like that. We forgot about the contract"
"When I checked in on him I was surprised to see that he'd gone and was rather annoyed he'd pinched my notebook." Continues Dr Bogg.
"Many years later, listening to a Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band cover of the song I remarked that it sounded like a diagnosis I'd make.First we just laughed then the memory came trickling back. Man, that cat played us like a mouse. We just had to add it to our repertoire after all that."

Colonel Vipers Whipstick Band - I want To Mary A Lighthouse Keeper (Erica Eigen cover)
Live and Unplugged this is the 1st of a short set in the beer garden of the Golden Vine Hotel Autumn 2021.
Unhistorical fact... The 'lighthouse keeper' mentioned in this song was our very own Seaman Stains who secured work as a lighthouse keeper after a boating accident left him too psychologically altered to return to duty and yet too concerned for the safety of other sailors to leave the wild seas. A young Erica worked at beach-side lemonade stand Mr Stains frequented and she sung this song to him as she made his lemonade. It wasn't until many years later. many miles from the sea that he heard a recording of this song and told us this story. The band only started playing the tune to tease him but it steadily became a staple Viper song.

The Man Comes Around covered by Mick Coates and the Shallow Gravediggers
Another tune by Johnny Cash from Mick's U.S.A. road trip sing-along series. These videos were filmed by his travel buddy, a Scottish chap by the name of Tom Craig for whom we must be forever grateful. Well, I am anyhow. Many months after Mick's return to Australia I was fortunate enough to be subjected to this footage and, seeing great potential, fled from his country cottage, flash-drive in hand to create these timeless clips you now see before you. We hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed creating them. Or was that the whiskey? Ah, we'll never know.
