A crew of four astronauts, including two Saudis, joined seven others aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday, after their SpaceX capsule docked with the orbiting ISS on the second all-private Axiom mission. The Dragon capsule departed from the Kennedy Space Station in Cape Canaveral, Fla., on Sunday atop a Falcon rocket, transporting the crew members for a weeklong stay at the ISS.
The AX-2 mission is commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and carries paying customers. Also on board is pilot John Shoffner, and mission specialists Ali Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi, representing Saudi Arabia. Barnawi, a scientist specializing in cancer stem-cell research, is Saudi Arabia's first woman astronaut to head to the ISS where she will focus on advancing breast cancer research.
"We are here gathering with different cultures and with this international collaboration. This shows how space brings everyone together," Barnawi said during a welcoming ceremony aboard.
This is Axiom's second private mission in collaboration with NASA and SpaceX. In April last year, SpaceX blasted off the first all-private astronaut team ever launched to the ISS, a flight hailed by industry executives and NASA as a milestone in the commercialization of low-Earth orbit.

NASA has a rich history of women pioneers.
In 1922, Pearl Young became the first woman physicist hired by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) which later became NASA. Since that time, women have been paving the way for future generations working as human computers, engineers, scientists and astronauts. Today, there are many women in leadership throughout NASA, including Artemis I Launch Director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson and Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy.
Artemis, the twin sister of Apollo and goddess of the Moon and the hunt, is a fitting symbol for NASA’s new missions through space. Through the Artemis program, we will see the first woman and first person of color walk on the surface of the Moon. Then, we will use what we learn on and around the Moon to take the next giant leap: sending the first astronauts to Mars.

Ham was a normal chimpanzee. Purchased by the US Air Force at the age of 2. He was smart and fast learner compared to others.
So NASA decided to launch him in Space. On 31 January 1961, Ham was launched in space inside the Mercury-Redstone rocket.
In the beginning everything was fine but soon after launch NASA lost control and because of it Ham's rocket reached 252km in Space. Somehow they got the control back and Ham's rocket returned back to Earth.
He landed hard in the Atlantic Ocean & somehow survived the impact. That day Ham became the first chimpanzee in space.
After the flight, Ham lived all alone in a zoo for the next 17 years. Ham died on January 17, 1983.

NASA’s effort to bring Americans back to the moon is underway as they create a powerful new rocket for a history-making team that would include the first woman and first person of color. The Artemis Program aims to build a place to live and work on the moon where they can learn more about the moon and how to live on another surface outside of Earth. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY.

Space station spacewalks on This Week @NASA
A Feb. 18 briefing at Johnson Space Center previewed a series of U.S. spacewalks to prepare the International Space Station for new docking ports that will allow future crews launched from Florida, on U.S. commercial spacecraft to dock to the station. On the first EVA, scheduled for no earlier than Feb. 21, NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Terry Virts will prepare cables and communications gear for the two new International Docking Adapters, built by Boeing and scheduled for delivery on a pair of SpaceX flights this year. The other spacewalks are slated for Feb. 25th, and March 1. Also, Final Automated Transfer Vehicle, Progress supply ship to ISS, Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, Orion chutes in the wind, Pegasus modifications and more!

For the first time, a NASA satellite has quantified in three dimensions how much dust makes the trans-Atlantic journey from the Sahara Desert to the Amazon rainforest. Among this dust is phosphorus, an essential nutrient that acts like a fertilizer, which the Amazon depends on in order to flourish.
The new dust transport estimates were derived from data collected by a lidar instrument on NASA's Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation, or CALIPSO, satellite from 2007 though 2013.
An average of 27.7 million tons of dust per year – enough to fill 104,980 semi trucks – fall to the surface over the Amazon basin. The phosphorus portion, an estimated 22,000 tons per year, is about the same amount as that lost from rain and flooding. The finding is part of a bigger research effort to understand the role of dust and aerosols in the environment and on local and global climate.

NASA Commentator Pat Ryan talks with Alex Kanelakos, the Increment 42 Lead EVA Officer, about preparations for a spacewalk this Sunday, March 1, by International Space Station Commander Barry Wilmore and Flight Engineer Terry Virts. The station’s Mission Management Team gave unanimous approval for this third spacewalk in nine days after hearing discussion of all the technical preparations, including analysis of the small amount of water found inside Virts’ helmet at the end of the previous EVA. The astronauts will lay out cable and antennae for a new rendezvous and navigation system to support dockings to the station by future visiting vehicles, including the new U.S. commercial crew vehicles.

NASA | First Global Rainfall and Snowfall Map from New Mission
NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement mission has produced its first global map of rainfall and snowfall. The GPM Core Observatory launched one year ago on Feb. 27, 2014 as a collaboration between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and acts as the standard to unify precipitation measurements from a network of 12 satellites. The result is NASA's Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM data product, called IMERG, which combines all of these data from 12 satellites into a single, seamless map. The map covers more of the globe than any previous precipitation data set and is updated every half hour, allowing scientists to see how rain and snow storms move around nearly the entire planet. As scientists work to understand all the elements of Earth’s climate and weather systems, and how they could change in the future, GPM provides a major step forward in providing the scientific community comprehensive and consistent measurements of precipitation. #Moon2Mars
NASA is going to the Moon and on to Mars, in a measured, sustainable way. Working with U.S. companies and international partners, NASA will push the boundaries of human exploration forward to the Moon. NASA is working to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon within the next decade to uncover new scientific discoveries and lay the foundation for private companies to build a lunar economy.
The lunar surface will serve as a crucial training ground and technology demonstration test site where we will prepare for future human missions to Mars and other destinations. Through an innovative combination of missions involving commercial and international partners, robotic lunar surface missions will begin as early as 2020, focus on scientific exploration of lunar resources, and prepare the lunar surface for a sustained human presence.
Right now, NASA is taking steps to begin this next era of exploration. #Moon2Mars
