Cleaning Black Beans at CentraSeed
We are running black beans through our Clipper Eclipse 334. It is cleaning all the chaff, sticks, dirt, bugs and other debris. It gets most of the splits. Black beans have a black skin and the center is white. These beans need to be handled very carefully to prevent them from splitting. We have a big dust collector that keeps the dust down and sucks up more dirt and debris. Then the beans are ran on a conveyor to the gravity box wagon. Then they are put into the hopper bin and we run a fan on them for several days to condition them so they will not spoil or mold until they are sold. Visit http://www.centraseed.com for more info on our cleaning operation.

How we Eliminate Weeds on our Certified Organic Farm
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
I am out with the field cultivator tilling in another flush of weeds. Part of our organic plan is planting later in the season so we can till 2-3 times more to kill off the weeds and get rid of some of the weed seeds that are in the "weed bank" or soil. I lifted up the crumblers on the back of the cultivator so it leaves the ground light and fluffy. If I were to leave the crumblers down, it would pack the soil and increase the seed to soil contact. This would result in many more weeds regrowing.
We are always learning.....as I write this I am thinking I should leave the crumblers down when doing these weed killing passes. I will be going over the field a couple more times and I DO want the weeds to grow during this time. Then on the last pass before planting I should lift of the crumblers so less weeds grow once the crop is planted. Well, too late this year to do that. Definitely something I am going to try next year.

Seeing some surprising things when I went to look at my crops.
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
Every so often I get a chance to run out to the fields and see how the crops are growing. This gives me a chance to assess what is going on and what I need to do to help it along through the growing season. This morning I was pleasantly surprised to see the black bean and the soy beans had started growing in the dry soil. I did my best to plant the seeds into some moisture and it looks like I did a decent job. I will know more as the crop emerges. We will see how even or uneven it comes out of the ground. Make sure you subscribe because I will be making a lot more videos as this season is just getting started.

Planting Black Beans in Minnesota with a McCormick MTX150 and White 8200 planter.
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
Finaly planting our Black Beans. Seems late in the season but when I look back at my planting history I am right on schedule. Now we need some rain.
I am planting with our McCormick MTX150 and White 8222 planter. These two pieces of equipment work very well together. on this day I did not fill the seed boxes very full. I planted 25 acres before I had to refill. I watch the added weight on the row unit. The added weight from the seed can cause issues in different soil conditions.
The upgrades I have made to this planter are the Prescription Tillage Coulters. I really like them. The Yetter Twister closing wheels. They do a great job closing the seed trench. The drag chain. And Seed Rebounders to hold the seed in the bottom of the seed bed. Over all I am very happy with this set up.
Thanks for watching.

Cutting First Crop Hay
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
Was a great day to cut first crop hay. The weather forecast looks like it is going to be dry all week and will be in the upper 90's by the weekend. We will let it dry for a day then rake it. On the fourth day we will bale it into 1000 pound bales.

That is one of the ugliest cats ever!
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
We are getting ready for first crop hay. Moving equipment around in your shed and I came across a mommy opossum and some babies. Don't know how many. Opossums get a bad rap. They are really a great animal....even though they look like a racoon that has been dead for a week or two. I have destroyed a couple in the past until I did some research on them. No they don't have rabies. They like to be left alone. Even though they have a big pointy nose and a mouth filled with vampire teeth, you can walk up to them and pet them if you feel the need. I did not. I believe opossums to be an important part of nature on my farm. I was happy to see her.

Out checking the first crop hay 2021
Sponsored by https://www.CentralSynthetics.com
We are at the end of May. Time to cut hay again! I am out checking on a couple fields. We have had a cool Spring and it has been fairly dry up until recent days. Most of the hay is knee high or higher just starting to bud. Most of my hay goes to horse owners and some beef farmers.

Farm Fieldwork in Minnesota
Glen is out in the field disking on the peas getting ready for the winter wheat that will be planted in about 6 weeks. He is using his Case IH Magnum 210 and his old International Harvester 500 disk. Severe thunder storms passed to the north and Glen got some rain, just enough to settle the dust. Then it cleared off and watched a great sun set.
