Evacuees from Yellowknife continue to pour into cities across Alberta, with many arriving after a long journey by car or truck.
The City of Calgary said Friday’s arrivals in their city had brought the total number of evacuees to about 3,500. The city says it has capacity for 5,000.
The fire is dangerously close to Yellowknife, approximately 15 kilometres from the city as of the most recent update. The city’s mayor said it is expected to move “much closer” over the weekend.

Malaysia plane crash: 10 dead after small aircraft crashes onto highway
A plane crashed in Malaysia’s Selangor state on Thursday, killing all eight passengers and crew, as well as a motorcyclist and driver, according to local authorities.
The small, private Beechcraft plane was two minutes away from landing when it "lost contact with the tower and crashed," hitting a motorcycle and a car on the highway, state police chief Hussein Omar Khan said.
