What Dribbble's redesign really means...
Dribbble rebranded and while most people talk about the new logo or the new landing page (they're both very nice) I wanted to talk about a more important topic here.
What does this change mean to the post-design industry? It is a huge departure from the previous focus on design work itself and has focused on "selling" a job board of designers.
So UI designs and animations used to be the product, but now it's people.
I've been talking about this shift for a while - we're losing creativity and innovation towards cheap, repeatable, unoriginal stuff that's just "easy to implement" and sadly I believe this is another step in that direction...
I loved you Dribbble - you were a special part of my journey. Sad to see you go.

Why 99% Case Studies are Boring and FAIL
Most of junior UX designer case studies are boring because they're all working within guidelines of similar bootcamps. But instead of copying what people do, I believe you should go down a completely different path.
I'll show you how to do exploratory case studies, with examples and how to get a little more help with them.
I have a couple of videos on how to create ux design portfolio that works, and this is a bunch of extra tips to make it perform better!

Spatial Design - Case Study Step by Step Guide
How to start thinking about designing for augmented or mixed reality? All you need is your imagination and a large dose of curiosity. Some basic UI skills also come in handy but aren't necessary.
==============================
Read the case study now:
https://medium.com/p/b9f123950e90
And then watch this video to learn how to do it yourself.
==============================
To create an UX/UI case study, with interactions, like this you mostly need some time and energy. But it's a great effort to stand out from the crowd and show you're not afraid to think outside of the box.
An important thing to remember is that your thought process here doesn't have to be perfect. You don't need to confirm all your assumptions and theories. What it's all about is setting the expectations and then going through a design process to figure out which one of them can even be met.
It's about the journey, not the final design.
And of course I could've tweaked it even more, added more fancy visuals at the end - but then it might've overshadowed the true idea behind this case study.
To be curious. To think in new ways. Try it!
Apple's Vision Pro headset, along with the new Oculus headsets are going to be a niche that's worth jumping into. Not many people do these kinds of explorations right now, so it's definitely worth trying.

UX industry will be OVER by 2025 - What comes next?
Just because the ux industry is coming to an end doesn’t mean that designers will be useless or that products will lack good ux. It will just CHANGE.

And what comes next? The shift I'm talking about here is something I've been mentioning since at least 2019. It's not because of AI but rather something more prosaic - business driven products, then engineering driven and design being pushed out as less and less important.
UX design is not growing for a while now and the industry is shrinking.
But I am lucky to have a community of awesome designers around me who learn the right way and are getting jobs and promotions even in this economy.
However from 2025 the designer skills that are in Demand won't be moving some rectangles in a nice way in Figma or some other tool that takes over the UX/UI tool space.
Let's explore what it is!

All Spatial Design Principles Explained - EASY!
Spatial design, but without the jargon. There are five main Spatial Design principles that Apple shares here:
https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10072
The problem is that some parts of that video may be a little hard to understand for junior designers.
So I decided to explain it in my own words, trying to make it as simple as possible. No jargon, no difficult words and metaphors most junior ux/ui designers already understand well.
What are the 5 principles of Spatial Design?
Have a beautiful day!

The hidden UX tricks of Uber
Sure, screen design is all fine and good, but the actual user experience comes from a mix of a lot of different things. In this video I'll show you how the Uber app keeps users engaged throughout the booking process with some clever tricks and patterns.
By being able to deconstruct things like that yourself, you can learn a lot more from analysing other products. Treat this video as your UX/UI/interaction design guideline.
Record apps, then watch them in slow motion, pause frequently and try to think why certain things are done and why they're done in a specific way.
And while you're at it, you may find some bugs or missed alignment in the products as well - that's normal with projects of any size and scope.
Just remember to keep your eyes open and keep focused on seeing every little detail.
This is how you grow as a designer.
