The doctors wanted to Institutionalize him, and his family said, "NO! "
In this episode, I share laughs, silliness, and wise insights from my friend, Jon Almada. Jon was born with multiple issues, including brain damage-induced Aphasia, the inability to understand or express speech. Jon's mother would not give up on him, and aided by his grandfather, a renowned neurologist, he overcame much of his disabilities. Jon has insights that can inspire and help other parents fighting against the system for their special kids.
Despite being born with Aphasia, Jon became a talented computer programmer and webmaster for a world-renowned Aerospace company that put a man on the moon. Jon is a well-known Psychic medium and paranormal researcher. He hosts the streaming show and podcasts, "SoulStreamRadio" (soulstreamradio.com & www.twitch.tv/soulstreamradio), gives helpful views and insights on tech and life on "After Burner One" (afterburner1.com), and is the owner of "GRI - Ghost Riders Paranormal Investigations." Get Your Butt Out Of That Rut

Debby Wells
Season 2 / Episode 1
"Get Your Butt Out Of Your Rut"My first episode of the season! Let's talk about how people, life and our own insecurities can train us to stay in a place or "rut" that we can get out of, but don't try to. I have been in those ruts so many times myself, and it is a horrible place to be when you have hopes and dreams because they require you to do something!Have you trained your mind to think that you cannot get out if a rut you have been stuck in?? Are you like a trained animal and think that you are tethered to one path, unable to run and be free? I share some thoughts during my podcast.

Story - The Power of Unexpected Kindness

Season: 2 - Episode: 6
Today my story was inspired by an elderly man with a broad, genuine smile and a wave that made me, the recipient, feel genuinely remarkable.
Some people come into your life and make a positive impact, but you may have never spoken a word to them. Maybe it's the twinkle in their eyes when they smile at you, the opening of a door for you, the offer of a place in the front of them in line if you have fewer items than they do, the kind word when you need it. My mother was a new widow standing in line at the grocery store. A woman in line behind my mother reached over to the cashier and handed her a handful of money. My mother assumed it was for a prior purchase and pulled her wallet out to pay for her purchases. The cashier smiled and said, "It's all paid for... no money needed" The woman behind my mother had noticed my mother's face, the sadness, the exhaustion, and wanted to do something nice for her. That act helped my mother as she grieved in ways this woman could never have foreseen. She trusted her gut, went with her heart, and a person she did not know became more important to her than money.

Interview - Jon Almada: Aphasia to Aerospace, Non Verbal to Broadcaster - Parents Who Never Gave Up
March 31, 2021
Debby Wells
Season: 2 - Episode: 5
After three days, Jon Almada came into this world, breaking his mother's pelvis bones and sustaining brain injuries that left him with Induced **Aphasia.Doctors wanted to institutionalize Jon, but his parents, with his grandfather a Neurologist, would not listen and never gave up on him. His mother and grandfather devised therapies, stimulating activities and environments, and soon, Jon was walking and finally began to talk.
What is the kid with Aphasia doing now? Jon worked for 32 years in the defense industry. After he retired, he became a broadcaster of his radio program on live streams and hosts a paranormal themed show, "SoulStreamRadio." Jon is also a writer with a series of books being released this year. What would those doctors have to say now?
Not bad for a kid who couldn't walk or talk, thanks to his parents, grandfather, the early intervention and therapies they devised, and never giving up.
**Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections.
