Join me as I explore this amazing abandon hotel. This abandoned hotel was built in 1916 and like many hotels of the era, it stood tall as a shining image of prosperity for the beautiful town that it lives in. This beautiful hotel had a beauty parlor, barbershop, a gift shop, and a restaurant. The building itself consisted of a three-stories with two short wings. The owners hit Financial troubles and In June 1927, their corporation went bankrupt and their properties were put up for auction. Vandalism is a prime example of why I don’t share locations of the places I visit. This hotel operated throughout the depression. Immediately after World War II On May 11, 2016, a small electrical fire activated the hotel’s suppression system, prompting a routine fire inspection of the property. As we cascade into a dark and unknown basement I was to point out that this is a beautiful hotel and I can’t imagine the kind of events they had here during it’s prime. The workmanship, the history, by far one of my favorite places. The inspection found multiple fire violations including obstructed exit doors, no fire alarm system, and more. Due to the violations, this beautiful hotel was condemned and remains closed to this day. As some of you might know, I’m urban exploration in some locations are extremely difficult and sometimes impossible. You never know what you’re going to find and I’m some cases you might be late and the structure has been demolished. I’m other cases security has been tightened due to vagrants and Vandals. Destruction of these historic landmarks is not okay. History is unfortunately being Erased daily. We want to respect the building and locations. Don’t break and enter, don’t take anything but photos, and leave nothing but footprints. I started this hobby as a photographer and the YouTube channel was started to possibly fund my adventures at some point. After seeing the beautiful wonders of our past. The amazing craftsmanship. The artwork created. As an artist, I sympathize with those that spent time crafting the building we inhabit daily. During the 1920s, Florida experienced a land boom, a period in which tourism was on the rise, and many Mediterranean Revival style hotels were built. Construction on this hotel started in 1925 The hotel featured six floors of guest rooms, an observation tower, and a series of patios and arcades through an abundance of tropical plants. The hotel opened in January 1927 with a six-course dinner to celebrate, which attracted over 250 guests. Unfortunately, this was the hotel’s high point as it was only able to stay open for a few years during the Great Depression. The hotel reopened in 1953 after much-needed updating and remodeling and operated until 1982 after it was sold off to investors that unfortunately went bankrupt and couldn’t finish reopening the hotel. Today we are exploring an abandoned hotel that was built in 1923 and is considered by most Florida’s first fireproof hotel. The hotel originally contained 128 hotel rooms and then later renovated to include apartments. The Hotel was closed down in January 2011 Multiple floors and the back of the building sustained fire damage, and every floor sustained smoke and water damage. The fire was deemed ‘suspicious’ since there is no power running int he building and it wasn’t hit by a lightning strike. This fire has caused any plans for the building to be put on hold. As some of you might know, I’m urban exploration some locations are extremely difficult and sometimes impossible. You never know what you’re going to find and I’m some cases you might be late and the structure has been demolished. I’m other cases security has been tightened due to vagrants and Vandals. Join us today as we are exploring this beautiful abandoned grade school. Known today as Public School No. 8, it first opened its doors in 1909. As the city grew, the neighborhood declined. When the Expressway was constructed in the early-1960s, just east of the school. Unfortunately accessibility to the neighborhood was stifled. The school became a Montessori school in 1991 in an effort to repurpose aging and under-performing schools in blighted neighborhoods. By the late-1990s, it was the second-oldest public school building in operation and it was in need of a $10 million dollar investment from the school board to continue to operate. It was decided that the best course of action was to abandon the school in favor of a new building located 17 miles away. After the new school opened in 2005, Public School No. 8 operated until permanently closing in 2013. Big thank you to Tatiana for accompanying me on this adventure. As part of a master plan involving the construction of jails in local communities to serve the local population. This facility was the only one built under this concept and would close just two years later in 1976 This facility transferred hands and served as a work release center until its closure sometime in the mid-2010 Many locations including this one were closed in lieu of more modern and up-to-date facilities. Constructed in 1972, it opened it’s doors with over 307 beds The owners vacated and abandoned the abandoned building in 2002 in favor of consolidating into a newer hospital with lower maintenance cost. In 2009, a group of local businessmen had plans to renovate the deteriorating hospital into an assisted living facility. The $22 million project never came to fruition. The new owner had plans to gut the building and build commercial and residential units. Plans fell through though as the property was facing foreclosure in January 2015. In 2019 this abandoned place sheltered a runaway machete murderer where armed police had to storm the heavily decaying hospital to arrest him. The views from the roof where spectacular, unfortunately, we couldn’t stick around for sunset. We had to rush through this explore as it was getting dark and we didn't want to be around this area after sunset. Security was watching the golf range and the building shared a parking lot with what looked to be a building recommissioned for Covid-19 testing. Please Like and subscribe and help my channel grow.
