How do you brainstorm for a unit study? #learnalong
Video 2 in our Learn-Along series is a brainstorming session!
How do you come up with ideas for what to learn about once you've chosen a topic? Just start asking questions!
We will be doing a unit on animal studies, but I also do some brainstorming around cooking because my family will be tackling that topic as well.
Think about:
- the bigger topics and subjects
- what questions you or your kids have
- what projects or presentations could wrap up the study
- what topics a typical textbook might cover

Welcome to our First Annual Learn-Along!
I'm so excited to announce The Triangle Homeschool Resource Center's First Annual Learn-Along!
Take our Learn-Along topic poll here:
https://forms.gle/TYtXdc5P5sQJsdrEA
Just what IS a Learn-Along?
My daughter and I are crafters and we've participated in several group activities know as "craft-alongs" (or knit-alongs, crochet-alongs, etc). I was inspired to create this community activity to create a unit study or interest-based learning activity where we will pick a topic and spend 6 weeks diving into learning about it with our families.
While we learn, we'll create activities for all ages, brainstorm and share resources like books, websites, games, and discuss all the ways we can work these things into our homeschools.
Who can participate?
Any family from wherever you are! Whether you're homeschooling, or just trying to enrich your child's school learning, you are welcome to join in and get some fun ideas for how you can pursue learning with your children.
How do you participate in the Learn-Along?
I'll be going live on Facebook every Monday at 10am est. (http://www.facebook.com/trianglehomeschoolresources/)
Tune in to get ideas, find out what's next, and share how your family is learning. That's it! No groups or programs are necessary to join. I'll be sharing the videos on YouTube and on http://www.trianglehomeschoolresources.com/ for replay.
If you would like access to my daily learning diary, printables and journal pages I create, and coaching on implementing this topic or any other interest-based learning in your homeschool, join our Triangle Homeschool Resource Village here:

Can I start homeschooling mid-year?
Is the holiday break a good time to start homeschooling?
There are 3 things you need to think about!
1) What does the law say about starting mid-year? Homeschool laws are determined by your state, so to find out what is allowed, Google your state + homeschool law to learn more.
2) What is your plan longer term? If you want to transition back into public school next quarter or next year, it's a good idea to reach out to the administrators of the school to find out what re-entry would require.
3) Take your time! Don't rush into starting schoolwork at home. No matter what the law is in your area, you have more flexibility and freedom than in a public school, so use it!

Are you ready for what 2021 has in store?
Who is ready for a fresh start for 2021!?!
Let's face it: 2020 has left all of us tired, run-down, and overwhelmed.
As much as we hope we can wake up on January 1st and have it all be over, the truth is, we still have a long way to go to recover from the 2020 mess.
Co-ops aren't ready to restart. Schools and sports may be shut down again. Libraries are iffy. Parks in winter... well, they aren't too much help then anyway. But we'll persevere, won't we? We'll make sure that our kids get what they need and then...
What about you, Mom? Are you getting the connection and the support you need? And how are you feeling about your homeschool? Does it seem that things haven't quite fallen into place this year? You're not alone! That is the number one problem I'm hearing from my clients these days.
I want to help you refocus, support you with connection, and get your homeschool on track so that you can look forward to 2021!
