What's New for 2023?
A new Freedom Edition model joins the Wrangler lineup, but only for a limited time. It wears a military-themed exterior treatment, a steel front bumper, and rock rails on the sides. Elsewhere in the lineup, the Rubicon receives new 17-inch wheel designs. Two new paint colors are now available called Earl and Reign, names which don’t give you a clue as to their true hues. But we’re here to help; you can learn what they look like here.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Sport $32,990
Sport S $36,490
Freedom Edition $39,485
Willys $39,985
Rubicon $45,090
Sahara $47,720
Sahara Altitude $52,815
High Tide $53,335
Sahara High Altitude $56,815
Sahara 4xe PHEV $58,640
Rubicon 4xe PHEV $62,380
Rubicon Farout $64,290
Sahara High Altitude 4xe PHEV $64,415
Rubicon 392 $84,290
Rubicon 20th Anniversary $92,690
We like the idea of staying close to the Wrangler's simple roots while keeping the price towards the low end of the range, so we'd start with the two-door Wrangler—which comes standard with a removable cloth top. We don't want to go full World War II bare bones, so we'd opt for the Wrangler Sport S for its extra equipment, which includes air conditioning, a leather-covered steering wheel, power windows and locks, automatic headlamps, heated mirrors, and more. Beyond that, we'd spec the 270-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for its 295 pound-feet of torque —35 pound-feet more than the standard V-6. The four-cylinder also comes standard with an eight-speed automatic, a powertrain combination that should make for low-stress trail driving. We'd also opt for the Technology package for its larger 7.0-inch touchscreen and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The standard 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 from the previous-generation Wrangler makes its way under the hood of the new JL and can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic. A turbocharged four-cylinder engine is optional and teams up with an electric motor to provide additional low-end power. In addition to the standard V-6 and optional four-cylinder hybrid, the Wrangler can also be equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 with similar hybrid assist, a 3.0-liter diesel V-6; a 375-hp plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain, and a 6.4-liter V-8 are also available. Wranglers are born off-road ready, so part-time four-wheel drive is standard across the range and is controlled by a lever on the center console. In our testing, a base two-door Wrangler Sport with the V-6 and the six-speed manual transmission sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds; a well-equipped four-door Sahara model with the automatic transmission did the deed in 6.8 seconds. With the four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, the four-door Sahara was slightly quicker at 6.5 seconds to 60 mph. The Rubicon model and the High Tide model—both of which carry additional weight in the form of heavier-duty off-roading equipment—weren't as quick as the others in our testing. Performance at our test track shows that the Wrangler JL is much improved compared with the previous model, but it's merely holding steady with its rivals in some metrics. Although its handling has improved, it's still trucklike in comparison with today's refined SUVs and pickups. The ride in the four-door is acceptably smooth over rough surfaces, but braking distances were inconsistent between our two test vehicles.

2023 Lexus IS350 AWD - Head-turning looks, well-appointed cabin, supportive front seats
2023 Lexus IS350 AWD - Head-turning looks, well-appointed cabin, supportive front seats
Starting at $41,235
Overview
Not only does the 2023 IS wear Lexus’s spindle grille better than most of its stablemates, but it is also prettier than most of the other cars in the compact sports-sedan class. It’s a shame then, that its performance doesn’t quite match that of cars like the Audi A4, BMW 3-series, and Genesis G70. Even the top-spec IS500, with its range-topping V-8 engine and the IS’s best suspension, fails to be as crisp-handling and rewarding as we’d hope for in a sports sedan. The entry-level IS300’s turbo-four feels underpowered but the middle-of-the-road IS350’s V-6 is more refined—even if it’s not particularly quick by sports-sedan standards. The IS does a better job emulating Lexus’s other built-for-comfort luxury cars, with a ride that’s compliant and easy-going. Similarly, the cabin is nicely built with premium materials and generous features. So, perhaps the IS is the sedan for people who want a car that looks sporty but drives chill.
What's New for 2023?
For 2023, the IS350 F Sport and IS500 F Sport models get new wheel designs, with the latter coming with 19-inch Enkei rollers. A special appearance package for the IS500 F Sport Performance Premium model includes Molten Pearl exterior color with black faux-leather interior upholstery and unique BBS forged alloy wheels; only 150 will be built. The IS350 F Sport also gets a new appearance package, but instead of the Molten Pearl color, Lexus has chosen Incognito exterior paint with an Obsidian-colored hood; only 480 of these will be offered for sale.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
IS300 $41,235
IS350 F Sport $45,560
IS500 F Sport Performance $59,420
IS500 F Sport Performance Premium 63,920
Although we're most intrigued by the high-performance IS500 model, its price may put it out of reach of many shoppers. If that's true for you, we'd think the mid-range IS350 F Sport with rear-wheel drive offers most of the IS's performance charms. The F Sport package not only offers more aggressive exterior styling but also comes with unique 19-inch wheels with larger rear tires, a cold-air intake system, a limited-slip rear differential, an F Sport exhaust, and sport seats with heat and ventilation. We'd also opt for the Dynamic Handling package, which includes an adaptive suspension system.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2023 IS has three engine options: a 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the IS300, a 311-hp V-6 in the IS350, and now a 472-hp V-8 in the IS500 F Sport Performance model. We haven’t been fans of the four-cylinder in previous tests of the IS300, as its dull character isn't well matched to the car's athletic chassis and refined, upscale personality. Ordering the V-6 allows the IS to shine and unlocks the F Sport package, which brings numerous performance upgrades such as a limited-slip rear differential, staggered 19-inch wheels, and an optional adaptive suspension. When we tested a rear-wheel-drive IS350 F Sport, we recorded a brisk 5.6-second zero-to-60-mph time—average for this swift class. Looking for the ultimate IS? The V-8-powered IS500 model is the one to consider. At our test track, it pulled off a solid 4.3-second zero-to-60-mph run.

The 2023 Suzuki Hayabusa Keeps Going Strong
The 2023 Suzuki Hayabusa Keeps Going Strong
The third generation of the legendary Suzuki Hayabusa, which was introduced in 2022, hasn’t changed for year 2, but that’s not a bad thing – the ‘Refined Beast’ was a hit with riders all across the board. Since its initial release in 1999, the Hayabusa has remained popular among speed addicts everywhere thanks to its huge horsepower and precise aerodynamics.
The flagship of the Suzuki 2023 model lineup has a lot to offer – its 1,340cc liquid-cooled inline-four produces a staggering 190hp and 110 lb-ft. Thanks to those numbers, the Hayabusa can do 0-60 in about 3.2 seconds. All of that power is brought to a stop with ease by a pair of Brembo Stylema Front brake callipers paired with two 320mm discs – all tied into Suzuki’s Motion Track ABS.
While the Hayabusa’s power isn’t for the faint of heart, the team at Suzuki has paired the bike with a number of electronic aids that help to make it a very approachable weapon. Thanks to the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), this Japanese-made bike comes standard with features like a launch control system, selectable 10-level anti-lift system, a bi-directional quick-shifter, an engine braking control system, and a cruise control system capable of taking you to 125MPH (200 KM/H). The Hayabusa also comes with A 6-axis Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit, which measures pitch, roll, and yaw movement in order to make the most of the S.I.R.S. package while in motion.
The 2023 Suzuki Hayabusa features a set of aerodynamic fairings specifically designed for maximum speed and performance. The nose has a pair of the famous Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) ducts sitting neatly next to a stacked LED low beam and projector high beam headlight. In the United States, the 2023 Hayabusa is available in a trio of two-tone colour schemes – Pearl Vigor Blue & Pearl Brilliant White, Metallic Matte Black & Glass Sparkle Black, and Metallic Thunder Gray & Candy Darning Red. In Canada, the bike is only available in the Blue/White and Gloss Black/Matte Black colourways.

The 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo Is The Beast!
The 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo Is The Beast!
We all know that KTM likes to throw the term ‘BEAST’ around in its marketing to describe some of its bikes, but after careful evaluation, we’ve determined that the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo is not only a beast. It’s the beast. This bike features staggering performance mixed with state-of-the-art technology, all wrapped up in a KTM orange bow.
The Super Duke line has been on the market for a couple of years now, sitting pretty atop the KTM family, and the R Evo is, without a doubt, the top of the top. The engine at the heart of this Austrian machine is the very same 1301 cc V-Twin that can be found among the rest of KTMs 1290 models, but through some careful revisions, the one found in the Evo is more powerful and lighter than the rest. At an advertised 180 hp and 104 lb-ft, this beast is capable of getting down the road. The R Evo uses a six-speed PANKL-manufactured gearbox with a power-assisted slipper clutch to round out the package.
Beyond those power figures, this bike has many tricks up its sleeve, including a semi-active WP suspension system. The suspension features electronically controlled damping and three unique settings – Track, Auto, and Advanced, each offering a different level of customization to the suspension.
WP isn’t the only big name found on this bike – Brembo Stylema brakes are standard, and a set of specially designed Bridgestone S22 tires are on the bike out of the showroom.
We aren’t kidding when we say the R Evo comes equipped with too much technology to list here, but some highlights include a full suite of rider aids, three standard riding modes (rain, street, and sport) along with optional track and performance modes, and keyless ignition & gas cap.
Aesthetically the R Evo is an exceptionally aggressive-looking bike, sharing its sharp lines with the rest of the Duke line. A large air intake is noticeable at the centre of the infamous headlight. For 2023 the bike can be had in two colourways, classic KTM orange and a dual-tone black and blue ensemble.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition Is Limited To 72 Units For France
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition Is Limited To 72 Units For France
While we are waiting for the debut of the facelifted 992 range, Porsche France unveiled a special edition of the current 911 to honor the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The model is based on the 911 Carrera GTS with various Le Mans-inspired styling touches and will be produced in a limited number of 72 units, exclusively reserved for the French market.
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition features unique details inspired by two Le Mans winners – the classic 356 SL which earned a class win in 1951, and the exotic 911 GT1 overall winner of the 1998 race with two French drivers behind the wheel.
The special edition was penned by Grant Larsson, who is the Director of Special Projects in the Porsche Style department and the man behind the original Boxster. The project started back in 2020, resulting in 25 special components.
The Le Mans Silver exterior shade was developed with the help of Rod Emory who is the owner of the 356 SL. The 46 number on the doors and the Graphite Blue leather interior trim tastefully combined with velour inserts on the seats were also inspired by the 1951 racer. On the other hand, the vented side quarter panels, the Aurum-painted alloy wheels, and the red seatbelts are references to the more recent 911 GT1.
The hand-milled badge on the engine cover under the “Born in Le Mans. Manufactured in Zuffenhausen” lettering, and the 3D-printed badge next to the B-pillar featuring the layout of the La Sarthe circuit will make sure that everyone knows this is not your typical 911.
The circuit is also embossed on the central armrest, combined with 24h Le Mans lettering embossed on the headrests, and “911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition” markings on the scuff plates and on the dashboard. Finally, owners will get a specific key, interior cover, and a personalized book with photos from the production process in the Zuffenhausen factory and at the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur workshops.
There are no mechanical changes, which means that the twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat six produces 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via either a 7-speed manual or an 8-speed PDK transmission. The model also inherits the sportier chassis setup of the Carrera GTS.
The 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition is already available to order at a price of €237,819 ($259,670), but only if you live in France. This represents a significant premium of €79,104 ($86,407) compared to the standard Carrera GTS which is listed for €158,715 ($173,297) in the same market. The difference is justified by the generous kit and the limited production run of 72 units. The latter is a tribute to Porsche’s 72 years of continuous presence in the fabled race during which it gathered 19 overall wins and 110 class wins.

2023 Lexus RX450H - Stylish new mug, more premium cabin environs, up-to-date infotainment interface
2023 Lexus RX450H - Stylish new mug, more premium cabin environs, up-to-date infotainment interface
Starting at $48,950
Overview
Despite a complete overhaul for 2023, Lexus's RX SUV retains its soft-riding road manners that seem tailor-made for its faithful buyers. A quartet of powertrains is on the menu including a new plug-in hybrid version. The RX's new styling looks much sharper than the outgoing model's and up front, there's a new version of the brand's wide-mouthed grille and Lexus's recognizable L-shaped running lights. Interior accommodations are more deluxe this time around, and the cabin features a large infotainment touchscreen and the latest tech features. The outgoing model was offered in either two- or three-row configurations but the 2023 RX is strictly a two-row affair. A three-row variant may join the lineup later or Lexus may choose to launch a new, larger SUV above the RX with a standard seven-seat layout.
What's New for 2023?
The RX rolls into its fifth generation with an all-new design, but it's still the soft-riding, quiet cruiser it's always been.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
RX350 $48,950
RX350 Premium $50,950
RX350h $51,545
RX350h Premium $53,545
RX350 Premium Plus $53,550
RX350h Premium Plus $56,145
RX350 Luxury $56,950
RX350 F Sport $58,150
RX350h Luxury $59,545
RX500h F Sport Performance $64,145
While it's hardly as sporty as it looks, the RX500h F Sport Performance is at least the most exciting variant of the RX SUV—too bad it's so expensive. While driving enthusiasts like us would find nothing but that range-topping model suitable, we think more casual drivers will be happy with the less powerful and even more relaxed RX350 Premium Plus. That mid-range model comes with added luxuries such as the larger 14.0-inch infotainment screen, genuine leather upholstery, an ambient interior lighting system, and more.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2023 RX is offered with no less than four different powertrains, starting with the base RX350 model which is powered by a 275-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. That model comes with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive as standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. The hybrid RX350h pairs electric motors with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine to make 246 horsepower and comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. On our first test drive, neither of these powertrains delivered notable performance and we estimate both will deliver slightly slower acceleration than their 2022 analogues. Stepping up to the RX500h F Sport Performance unlocks a punchier powertrain. It combines the turbocharged 2.4-liter and electric power to make 367 horsepower and utilizes Lexus's Direct4 system to route that power to all four wheels. Lexus had an opportunity to recast the new RX as a performer with the RX500h model, but its chassis engineers regrettably chose not to dial in any additional cornering confidence. At our test track, the RX500h F Sport Performance hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. All models we've driven so far are just as softly-sprung and luxury-focused as the outgoing generation RX, which will please faithful buyers but won't attract any driving enthusiasts. A plug-in hybrid model—dubbed RX450h+—will join the lineup later, and although Lexus hasn't released specs on that yet, we expect to see the same 302-hp powertrain that's offered in the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Lexus NX450h+SUVs.

2023 Honda CRF250F - A full-size trail steed for young adults
2023 Honda CRF250F - A full-size trail steed for young adults.
Honda’s CRF250F is a great choice for riders getting their feet wet off-road, but also well suited for tackling challenging terrain at the hands of more experienced riders.
Ups
Well-balanced handling with capable suspension
Off-road legal in all 50 states
Electronic fuel injection
Low fuel indicator can be helpful on the trail
Downs
Compact chassis could be too small for larger riders (though just right for others)
Verdict
The CRF250F is one of those bikes that provides a great foundation for novice riders while bringing any experienced rider who swings a leg over it back to their roots, where sheer speed, engine size, and the latest technology did not matter. It is a versatile, popular machine that grows rider skills and confidence off-road and is rideable year-round on trails across the nation.
Overview
The Honda CRF250F sits beneath the CRF450X and above the CRF125F, serving as the middle ground in Honda’s trailbike lineup. Keihin electronic fuel injection and spark arrestor–equipped exhaust make it rideable year-round in all 50 states.
The CRF250F offers manageable power from the 249cc four-stroke engine, and a well-balanced Showa suspension make it feasible and fun for newer or seasoned riders with their sights set on singletrack and moderately technical terrain. Compact dimensions and nimble handling further boost confidence and control while out on the trail. At the end of the day, a bike that increases confidence helps grow the sport, and Honda’s amiable trailbike is a great fit for the job.
Updates for 2023
In 2019 Honda increased the engine capacity to 249cc from the 223cc engine in the previous-generation CRF230F and included other mechanical and comfort-focused updates. Red number plates were added in 2022 to better align the 250F with Honda’s competition lineup, while the rest of the package was carried over for 2023 sans changes.
Pricing and Variants
The CRF250F is available in just one trim, and retails for $4,899.
Competition
Other trailbikes suitable for teens or young adults are primarily Yamaha’s TT-R230 and Kawasaki’s KLX230R.

2023 BMW i7 - Deluxe and supremely quiet cabin, surprisingly agile handling, effortless acceleration
2023 BMW i7 - Deluxe and supremely quiet cabin, surprisingly agile handling, effortless acceleration
Starting at $120,295
Overview
Where Mercedes-Benz goes, so goes arch-rival BMW—and vice-versa. Now that Mercedes has introduced its electric S-class, the EQS, it’s no surprise that BMW is launching an all-electric flagship luxury sedan called the i7. The electric Bimmer has been developed jointly with the next generation of the 7-series and delivers the same level of luxury as that gasoline-powered model. The i7 is powered by two electric motors and sports a battery pack large enough to compete with the EQS and other high-end electric sedans, such as the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. Styling is more sedate than the recently debuted XM SUV concept but the 2023 BMW i7 still takes some risks, particularly with its front-end design, which includes unusually large grille intakes and split-element headlamps. A host of technology features intermingle with luxury materials inside rendering the i7 tailormade for buyers who want whisper-quiet luxury transport—and also those who intend to relax in the back while being chauffeured.
What's New for 2023?
The 2023 i7 is a new nameplate and serves as the flagship of BMW's expanding “i” sub-brand of electric vehicles.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
xDrive60 $120,295
For now, the only version of the i7 that BMW offers is the all-wheel drive xDrive60, but we expect a more sporty M-sport model eventually. Like the gasoline-powered 7-series, the i7 is a limo-like luxury sedan that can be configured to pamper rear-seat occupants with the optional Executive Lounge package. We'd recommend that package, as it adds plenty of features to justify its price tag, including plush, electrically-reclining rear seats with massage.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The i7 uses a similar electric powertrain setup as the brand's new EV SUV, the iX, with two electric motors—one driving each axle—making a combined 536 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard and acceleration is brisk for such a large vehicle. In our testing, the i7 xDrive60 hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Handling is surprisingly agile for a large sedan but still, the i7 won't attract buyers looking for sports-sedan handling. Those seeking a comfortable and luxurious experience will find much to like and during our first test drive, we noted its particularly smooth ride and hushed cabin. If you'd prefer a gasoline-powered 7-series, one is still available; we review that model separately.
