Thanks Crew! 💙⚓ It’s funny how you can have a plan for your day when you wake up and then it completely changes by 8. We had planned to sail directly to St. Martin from the USVI’s until we messaged with a friend over coffee this morning. They were heading to St. Croix to get a better wind angle before crossing to St. Martin. So, in true fly by the seat of our pants, Honu Style we said “Sure!” and off we were to Christiansted, St. Croix. The wind angle didn’t help much in the end but we sure had an amazing time touring around, tasting the local foods and drink 😉 and finding ourselves in a hidden speakeasy. We can’t wait to come back to see the rest of what St. Croix has to offer. Now, to St. Martin we go as we make our way into the Caribbean. We hear they have really great boat parts there, so you can imagine how excited we are to stock up on more spares and hopefully find some of those hard to reach items we have been going without. We are still in the beautiful Virgin Islands, traveling between St. Thomas and St. John, trying to get in as much snorkeling, hiking and exploring as possible before we head to St. Croix. We are running out of time! Hurricane season is fast approaching and we have decided to make the trip south to Grenada instead of going back north like we originally planned. However, we are embarking on this adventure very late in the season and that doesn’t leave us many options. Being in the Bahamas has been an absolutely magical experience. We feel like we were fortunate enough to have our best first cruising season. We discovered new places, meet amazing people, ate delicious local food, and really got to know our Hunter 460, Honu. We have learned so much about sailing, reading the weather, chart, tides and currents since we started sailing south. It makes sense that this would be our natural progression. To follow in the footsteps of all the sailors we watched on YouTube; La Vagabonde, Delos, Uma, The wynns. They got us interested in this lifestyle and now we feel like we are following in their wake. For all of you that have been with us this season you know we have struggled with one very significant issue. *Our Batteries!* Electricity on a boat is really what keeps the entire system going on our blue water cruising sail boat. From the simple task of running the water pump to turning over our engine when required. Our depleting AGM batteries have really made us take notice of what is important and what is luxury on Honu. We have stressed over the tiniest amperage drop just to make sure we could make it through to the next day. Our new Victron MPPT's are all Bluetooth and we will be able to have accurate reading of what our solar is now producing. As well, they will be able to communicate with our 2, 200Ah Amperetime plus Lithium batteries (LiTime). Together this smart system should make a world of difference for us going forward. So the question is. Will this lithium upgrade be the answer to all of our electrical woes? Can we finally start using our boat like a sail boat and not a very slow motor boat? Will we be able to use our interior cabin lights at night? Lost in Paradise ~ Georgetown Bahamas I never knew there was such a place that was a 100% adult playground until we sailed into Georgetown, Exuma. The cruisers regatta was well on stride when we finally arrived and all the hype about this cruiser’s paradise was unfolding before our very eyes.
