All videos for Oakdale Bible Baptist Church are filmed on site, either in the sanctuary, in the parsonage, or for drive up services in the parking lot. We use a Sony handheld camcorder mounted on an inexpensive tripod. For normal church services, we use no lighting or audio effects. Videos are uploaded with minimal editing using freeware readily available online. What is presented on our videos is intended to be exactly what the congregation sees and hears weekly. We prefer an authentic approach over a polished one. We sincerely hope that you are encouraged, challenged, corrected, or comforted as needed by the workings of the Holy Spirit through the preaching of God's Word. Understanding that we are but the frail vessels chosen for His use, we yet have our faith in He who died for us, and trust that you have the same faith with us.
Oakdale Bible Baptist Church is a small, traditional church in southwestern Louisiana in the town of Oakdale. We are unaffiliated with any organization or conference. Our address is:

Country Kitchen Pickin' - Glory To His Name
Country Kitchen Pickin' - Glory to His Name
Elden Mayo, Pastor of Oakdale Bible Baptist Church and occasional guitar picker.
Recorded in my kitchen early on a Saturday morning after about one cup (or maybe two) of coffee. My intent with this video is to give guitar pickers who are interested in the three finger style of picking (Earl Scruggs style) a place to start. I play Gospel music, so everything I post will use old hymns or Gospel songs. A few more videos will probably follow during the winter. Once Spring comes and the garden starts growing, however, the mornings belong to the garden.
The song title is "Glory To His Name". It is a personal favorite, and a good candidate for finger picking due to its rhythmic tempo and basic chord structure. It uses four chords; 1-4-5 and an occasional 2. I play it here in the key of G.
This video shows the right hand position, chords, and fills for use with three-finger style finger picking. I may try a different angle to capture the left hand picking rhythms if I get feedback in that direction. My picking rhythms are basic, though, so the right hand position should be enough.
The guitar used for this video is a Gibson J-15. I have a Taylor 614e and my wife has a Martin D-18 and I love them both, but Gibson guitars were made for finger picking. My finger picks are National NP-2's, I use a brass NP-2 for my index finger and a nickel NP-2 for my middle finger. My thumb pick is a John Pearse. I will use a National or a Dunlop in a pinch, but the John Pearse is my favorite. The video was recorded on a Samsung Galaxy 7. No editing or effects were wanted or used.

Miserable Christians (Bro. Elden Mayo)
1 Corinthians 15:19 - What causes Christians to be miserable instead of happy? If you are a miserable Christian, what can you do about it?
In this sermon, we look at the apostle Paul's statement, "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." We first find that there is no reason that a Christian should be miserable given the eternal promises which we hold. Secondly, we find that we can indeed be miserable if we consider our hope to be only in this world. Lastly, we see that when a Christian finds themselves unhappy, dissatisfied, or even downright miserable, the way of escape from this misery is to not base our happiness on the event and possessions of this world. Instead, we remember that our hope is steadfast and sure, anchored in the promises of Jesus Christ, with the fulfillment of our desires in an eternal home not yet seen.
The answer, then, for miserable Christians is to remember that this world is not our home. This is not the land of our citizenship. Our hopes and dreams are not based on events, feelings, possessions, or social status in this present natural Earth. Instead we have firmly staked our claim in a heavenly home which we have never seen , with perfect faith that the promises of God are secure and that our eternal bliss is not a wish based on whimsy but rather a secure hope based on the Word and character of God Almighty.
