Freemason Talks With A Catholic Priest
Freemasonry and the Knights of Columbus are two distinct fraternal organizations, each with its unique history, purpose, and principles. Here are five key differences between them:
Historical Origins:
Freemasonry: Freemasonry's origins trace back to the late 16th to early 17th century in Europe. It evolved from the guilds of stonemasons and other trades during the building of cathedrals and castles. Modern Freemasonry began to take shape in the early 18th century in England.
Knights of Columbus: The Knights of Columbus, on the other hand, is a relatively more recent organization, founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. It was established as a Catholic fraternal organization, inspired by the need to provide financial aid to Catholic families in times of hardship and to foster faith and community.
Religious Affiliation:
Freemasonry: Freemasonry is not affiliated with any specific religion. It is a secular organization that welcomes members of various religious beliefs, as long as they profess a belief in a higher power, often referred to as the "Supreme Being" or the "Great Architect of the Universe."
Knights of Columbus: The Knights of Columbus, in contrast, is explicitly and exclusively a Catholic fraternal organization. To become a Knight, one must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Organizational Structure and Focus:
Freemasonry: Freemasonry operates through various Masonic lodges, and its central principles revolve around personal development, moral and ethical conduct, and brotherhood. It is more philosophical in nature, with ceremonies and rituals designed to impart symbolic teachings.
Knights of Columbus: The Knights of Columbus operates through councils, and its primary focus is on charitable activities, promoting the Catholic faith, and supporting the Church and its members. It places a strong emphasis on community service and helping those in need.
Rituals and Secrecy:
Freemasonry: Freemasonry is known for its secretive nature and private rituals. Masonic ceremonies involve symbolic initiation rites, which are kept confidential within the organization.
Knights of Columbus: While the Knights of Columbus also have rituals and ceremonies, they are not as secretive as those in Freemasonry. The Knights' activities and ceremonies are generally more open to the public and are often centered around their charitable and community efforts.
Membership Eligibility:
Freemasonry: Freemasonry is open to men of lawful age who believe in a higher power and meet specific moral and ethical standards. Historically, women were excluded from becoming Freemasons, though some jurisdictions now have separate female-only Masonic organizations.
Knights of Columbus: Membership in the Knights of Columbus is limited to practicing Catholic men, usually 18 years and older, who are in good standing with the Catholic Church and accept the principles of the organization.
These differences highlight the distinct nature and objectives of both Freemasonry and the Knights of Columbus, each contributing to their unique roles in society and the lives of their members.

Why Freemason Shriners Wear a Fez
Why Freemason Shriners Wear a Fez
Shriners wear a fez as part of their distinctive attire and tradition. The Shriners are a fraternal organization that is associated with Freemasonry. The order is officially known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and its members are commonly referred to as Shriners.
The fez is a type of hat that originated in the city of Fez, Morocco, during the 9th century. It is characterized by its flat crown and tassel hanging from the top. The Shriners adopted the fez as part of their attire due to the Orientalist theme of their organization, which is loosely inspired by Middle Eastern aesthetics.
The tradition of wearing a fez likely started in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when the Shriners held their conventions and meetings. The fez became a symbol of the Shriners' commitment to fun, fellowship, and charitable work, as the organization is well-known for its support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
It's important to note that the fez is a distinct symbol for Shriners and is not used by all Masonic organizations. Each fraternal group within Freemasonry has its own set of symbols and regalia, and the fez is specific to the Shriners.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 29 – Medal of Honor Winner – Bro. Erwin R. Bleckley – Kansas Freemason
This episode is all about Honoring Erwin Bleckley, a true American hero who received the Medal of Honor for his brave actions during World War I. Erwin Bleckley was a member of Albert Pike Lodge in Wichita, KS. Most Worshipful Bob Talbott sits down with Brian Byrd to talk about this outstanding Kansas Mason.
Bleckley was a navigator on a mission to deliver supplies to a trapped battalion when his plane was shot down behind enemy lines. Despite the danger, he volunteered to fly on a search and rescue mission to locate the lost battalion. Bleckley and his crew were tragically killed in action, but his selflessness and courage will never be forgotten.
Bleckley was commemorated by the city of Wichita in 1932 with the naming of Bleckley Drive, at the request of the American Legion. Following the war, his remains were permanently buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, France.
Bleckley's family donated his Medal of Honor to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. The original copy of the award document is located in the Museum of the Kansas National Guard in Topeka, KS along with other personal momentoes and personal items belonging to Lt. Bleckley. A monument commemorating Bleckley and Goettler's final flight was erected on October 7, 2009, in Remicourt, ninety-one years and one day after they were killed.
Let us remember and honor his sacrifice, and all those who have served and continue to serve our country.
