The Faith of Abraham
Billions of people claim Abraham as their "father" in the faith, including Jews and Muslims. Only true Christians can legitimately make the claim (Galatians 3:26-29). All others make a false claim (John 8:39-41). This lesson looks at his great faith and challenges us to walk in his footsteps.

A Perverted Gospel
Paul's letter to the Galatians is a hard-hitting attack on a perverted gospel (Galatians 1:1-9). We must beware lest we fall into the same trap as they did, accepting "another gospel," which is not another. Our hearts and minds must be fixed on truth and committed to doing God's will.

Temple Teaching | Acts 3 & 4
Peter and the other apostles preached the gospel and met with stiff opposition (Acts 3 & 4). When we look at them, we see great examples of steadfastness and are encouraged to be committed to the Lord just as they were. We also realize the gospel has great power.

The question is, have you submitted to baptism for the remission of sins? This lesson studies the Bible’s teaching on the necessity of baptism in water for salvation.

Preaching The Cross of Christ
Paul boasted in the cross of Christ (Galatians 6:14). It proclaims the love of God and brings peace between God and man (John 15:13; Colossians 1:19, 20). Our boast ought to be in the cross as well. Some believe that boasting in the cross means we should focus more on Christ and less on the Church. It is believed that preaching about the Church, insisting on obedience to the doctrine of Christ, will drive people away. This attitude is unscriptural as this lesson points out.

God's Gift For Solomon
Solomon is a puzzling Old Testament figure. He reigned over a glorious nation, had great wisdom and wealth, but was a pagan idolater for part of his life. His live contains many lessons for us, including an epic account of his request for wisdom early in his life. We can learn much from this story in 1 Kings 3, including fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, seek first the kingdom of God, and the responsibility to use our gifts for the Lord and His people.

Be Strong and Courageous | Joshua 1
Joshua means “Jehovah is salvation” and is a fitting name for the man whose life’s work it was to lead Israel into the Promised Land. Joshua’s name reminded him and the whole nation that conquering Canaan would not be through their might or means, not with armor or weapons, not through sheer numbers overwhelming the enemy, and not by their own will-power. Rather, conquest was through Jehovah, the Lord of all the earth and benefactor of Israel. It would be by His plan and through His power that Israel would settle in the Land of Milk and Honey. Joshua 1 sets the stage for the pending invasion as God admonished and encouraged Joshua to be strong and courageous. This account has many good lessons for us as well, in our quest for the heavenly Canaan Land.

Jericho | Joshua 6
Israel refused to enter Canaan land 40 years before the eventual invasion. They initially refused to go in because they feared the people and were intimidated by the fortified cities (Numbers 13:28, 29). Their lack of faith doomed a generation to wandering and eventual death in the desert. Their children, however, learned the lesson and became a generation of faith.
After being encouraged by the Lord and the people, Joshua began the process to invade and conquer the Promised Land (Joshua 2-5). In Joshua 6 we see the opening of a long campaign to take the land — a campaign that was partly military, but mainly religious. It was a religious campaign as it was part of God’s plan of salvation; a fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham. In this chapter we see Israel easily take the city of Jericho; a display of God’s power and manifestation of His grace.

Achan | Joshua 7
Israel’s stunning victory at Jericho was followed by a shocking defeat at Ai (Joshua 7). Satan was at work trying to hinder the progress of God’s people and plan. Sin had been committed among the people, a violation of the covenant with God concerning Jericho. As a result, God was no longer with His people. In this account are important lessons about not breaking covenant with God or harboring sin in the congregation. We specifically look at the fact that sin comes out, it has limited pleasure, and the responsibility to remove sin from the congregation.

The Day The Sun Stood Still | Joshua 10
Israel’s victories at Jericho and Ai compelled the Gibeonites to make an alliance with them. Though it was formed by deception, Israel honored their covenant to defend and protect Gibeon when five other kings attacked. In Joshua 10 we see Israel’s defense in the midst of which, we read one of the most amazing miracles in the Bible — the day the sun stood still. We see God working with man and the victory He delivers for His people.

An Impressive Altar | Joshua 22
Israel’s conquest of Canaan was long and hard, but it was accomplished (Josh. 21:43-45). There were many battles in which the major strongholds were taken with some work left to be done by individual tribes. Israel was successful in conquering the Promised Land because they stuck together and, mainly, they remained faithful to the Lord (cf. Judges 2:7).
In Joshua 22 we see where the people had religious zeal, but a misunderstanding arose. After a discussion about the situation, peace and unity in the Lord prevailed. Thus, this chapter contains several good lessons for us.

Husbands, Love Your Wives
God gave man the gift of a woman (Genesis 2:18-24). This gift is something which is to be treated with respect and gratitude. Thus, God commands husbands to love their wives (Ephesians 5:25-33). In fulfilling this command, husbands will cherish and nourish their wives, honoring them in the relationship (1 Peter 3:7).

Agreement In Sin
Adam and Eve were in agreement in sin (Gen. 3:1-6). One influenced the other, but both committed sin. And, both were condemned by God (Gen. 3:7-24). Agreement in sin does not excuse it nor does it nullify the consequences. In this lesson we look at multiple examples of people who were in agreement in sin - from an entire culture, to husband and wife - and note how their comfort in sin did not make it right.

Language
The Bible recognizes the proper and improper use of common words, like the Lord's name (Psalm 8:1; Exodus 20:7). It also identifies profane and filthy language (Leviticus 19:12; Colossians 2:8). This lesson examines both profane and filthy language, as well as euphemisms commonly used that barely veil profane language.

Plan of Salvation (1): Hearing
This lesson examines the New Testament teaching on the plan of salvation, namely that hearing is essential. The fact that hearing the gospel is required is stated and illustrated through the book of Acts and the rest of the New Testament. Plan of Salvation (2): Belief
The necessity of belief for salvation is a fundamental teaching in the New Testament (John 8:24; Mark 16:16). This saving faith, though, does not come by accident. It comes from hearing the word of God and requires action (Romans 10:17; James 1:22).
