338 Lapua Solid Copper vs Lead Core Bullets
Here I test out different 338 Lapua bullet ballistics on hard targets. These are long distance tests at 500 yards to 1000 yards showing what lead core and solid copper bullets will do. Rifle used is the Savage 110BA. Bullets used in test were 278gr MTAC Cutting Edge Bullets for the solid copper rounds and 300gr OTM Berger's for the lead core rounds. 2707 Yards 1.54mi Shot! Savage 110BA 338 Lapua
I attempt to shoot a steel torso target at a distance of 2707 yards 1.54mi was the GPS reading. Corporal Craig Harrison is in the record books for the longest confirmed kill at 2707 yards. I was using 300gr Berger bullets traveling at 2740 FPS. This shot required about 35 mils of hold over, with the nightforce NXS I was able to dial 27.5 mils, back the magnification off to 13X and use the bottom of the 5 mil reticle. With a flight time of just over 5 seconds it comes in pounding with 740ft-lbs of energy at 1.54mi away. It took me 21 shots to get my first hit on the target, this was definitely one of the toughest shots to make.
Rifle-----Savage 110 BA 338 Lapua
Scope--Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 MIL/MIL
Bullet---Berger 300gr OTM

Shooting 2500 Yards 1.43 miles!! Savage 110BA 338 Lapua
I took out the Savage 110 BA 338 Lapua and attempted the 2500 yard shot. So I placed the target at 2530 yards or 1.43 miles away, at that distance the bullet flight time is almost 4.5 seconds! Made a short video that I think you guys will enjoy. Thanks for watching!
I went out early in the morning to beat the mirage, luckily there was very little wind around 3-4 mph coming from the left, I dialed 2.6 mils Left. I had to dialed the maximum elevation my scope (Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 MIL/MIL) had at 27.4 mils then held over 2.5 mils on the reticle to get me to 29.9 mils. The 300 gr Berger bullets with a MV of 2740 fps at 23.34 inHg start to go subsonic at 2400 yards, so I figured some weird stuff might happen.
My first shot was pretty even height wise but was way off to the right, the first 3 shots were sighters to get me on target and then on my 9th shot I hit the target, then had one more hit on my 12th shot. So total of 2 out of 12 shots at 2530 yards.
When I got to the target to my surprise was a sideways hit. My first thought was that it hit the ground and bounced up sideways, but after reviewing the video I can tell it was a direct hit because the bullet splash in the dirt is directed away from the steel and the impact energy on the steel was the same for both hits, I'm sure if it hit the ground first it would have lost most of it's energy. So now I ask has anyone ever seen a 300 gr berger bullet hit sideways??!! Probably due to the sonic wave passing the bullet at 2400 yards, very interesting. The next day I went out to find a couple missed shot bullets and after metal detecting for almost an hour ready to give up I found one!
This was my first time shooting past 2060 yards and 2 out of 12 isn't real great but satisfying, I bet with practice I could get those numbers looking a little better. I really hope you guys enjoy the video, please comment or ask any questions you may have.......and let me know what you think

Shooting 2060 Yards! 1.17 miles Savage 110 BA 338 Lapua
Here I take the Savage 110 BA chambered in 338 Lapua Magnum out to a distance of 2060 yards or 1.17 miles. I'm shooting a standard IPSC size torso target 18"x24" that is 5/8" thick and weighs 80lbs. I'm shooting 300gr Berger OTM loaded with 90gr H-1000 with Federal 215 primers in Lapua brass. Bullets are seated .025 off the lands. I shoot a total of 18 rounds and hit the target 4 times, the first 2 hits were consecutive. The scope is a nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 MIL/MIL on a Ken FarreIl 30 MOA base. I probably would have done better but I had no idea I was hitting the target and a few times adjusted the scope off because of that reason. Time to get a better spotting scope! I had to dial to 17.5 Mils with a 1.3 Mil wind adjustment to get on target. I was unable to hear the steel ring at my firing position due to a slight tail wind. The Ammo used was SMK 300gr HPBT. The steel target is 18" wide by 24" to the shoulders, standard IPSC size target. The steel is about 5/8" thick and weighs 80 lbs.
