Re-reading the Bible with my children no doubt has as much value for me as it does for them. Over and over again we see the power of God displayed in supernatural ways. From dramatic, public showdowns with a king and execution in a furnace; to private struggles with infertility - Deliverance was provided to those who obeyed. We tend to occupy way too much mental space with worry, fear, and uncertainty. I wrote this song as a reminder - If God could work those wonders for them, what can He not do for us? If he has the power to save souls, can he not control anything in this life?

"Dada, it seems so SLOW now!" "What would you do if it were your last day on earth?" The first sentence was stated by my oldest daughter on our last day at Disneyland after exiting Big Thunder Mountain Railroad; a ride that 24 hours earlier had probably been the most thrilling experience of her 10 years spent on this earth. Why? Well, in between she had ridden the Incredicoaster - Just like that, the trill of BTMR was greatly diminished. It was another small "snapshot" of one of life's sad truths: We always want something bigger, better, more thrilling; and once we get it, the things we used to find enjoyment in are no longer adequate. The second sentence has been asked in books, songs, movies, and interviews countless times. I don't remember exactly when, but at some point I had the thought that, while I understand the sentiment of 'wasting your life' never having done all manner of extreme, death-defying deeds of the sort that look great posted on social media - How tragic is it to die without enjoying or realizing the simple, yet incredible things we take for granted every day? What would you do if it were the FIRST day of your current life? To wake up for the first time, in this life that you now have, but without the past experiences that have jaded you to all of its blessings? I liken it to is the feeling I have felt in those times where I have been really sick (Like bedridden sick) for a few days; and woken up a few days later to realize that I had recovered. Man, in that moment - Life is good!

'God's own truth!' I guess it is supposed to give credibility to a story that might otherwise be hard to believe? I don't know; some expressions are just silly to me. Your truth; my truth; what is truth? Well, for starters - Truth is not subjective; it is absolute. There is only one source for it in this world; and that is from God. So...as it turns out, an expression I always thought ridiculous starts to make a lot of sense :) These days there is no recognition of Truth, there is really little tolerance for it. In the event there is, it is a piecemeal affair; there is seldom a real desire to seek it out or to pursue it in earnest, especially when it conflicts with personal interests or opinions. It's a terrible thing that is tearing society apart - My hope is that we will indeed develop a desire to recognize "God's own truth" as something more than a credibility booster :)
