As I began streaming Battletech (BTA3062) on twitch last week, I had a few people go "I don't understand what's going on but let's check it out!" As such, I decided it was time for me to actually put out a Battletech / Mechwarrior video on the channel, a thing I was planning on doing A LONG TIME ago. It's been a weird 6 months since the start of City Boy and the We Are Legends publishing initiative from DC. This a comic that had a few ups and downs, the characterization and some of the dialogue was great, but I always felt it was missing something: ACTION. You know, what you buy comic books for in the superhero genre. Let's do something different and let's review a comic for actual kids. Well, technically for kids. Most kids don't have credit cards to go on crowdfunding sites. But still. Glyn in Monster Land is a fun horror-lite comic about a witch's apprentice who gets sent to the dungeon by an evil king because she actually wants to be nice. Sometimes, you just find something that is so special you need to share it with the world. This is truly one such thing: a story about a few of the world's most well-known artists... trapped in a cyberpunk, sci-fi world filled with robots, cyborgs and strangeness. This has some of the greatest art I have seen in comics in a long time combined with one of the best storytelling, making this a wonderful addition to any collection. At the end of his life, Vincent van Gogh goes to the sunflower fields to paint, sinking into an abyss of depression. We're almost at the end of that one, and BOY, are they screwing the pooch here. We literally have 3 books condensed into 1 here, with so many characters introduced this feels like a manga like My Hero Academia starting out a tournament arc. Non-sensical villain plots, plot holes the size of Cleveland, complete lack of motivations, everything is in here to actually make you HATE the Doom Patrol. This is a really sad statement of affairs. We're back in the 1980s New York with more adventures of France's hard-boiled detective and fake pastor Soda. This series is really weird. Not weird in the traditional Doom Patrol way, weird in a "Are we only getting the middle issue between arcs? " weird. This one is not as terrible as the previous one, I didn't tag it as I Hate This Comic, but it's... missing something. Actually, this whole series is missing 3-4 issues in between each of its issues. So, now that the campaign is over, it's time for a full review of Isom Ill-Advised part 2. Part 1 was a dark polar with a lot of mysteries, are we going in the same direction? WELLLLL, no. While the first part of this book is more in line with part 1, the book as a whole takes on a far more adventure-action comic style, and we go from more muted superpowers and supernatural elements to something much more in line with what many of us would consider "American Superhero Comics". And that's not a bad thing. Avery is still reeling from his fight with Santwan and getting in contact with Darren, only to get to his ranch and being attack by demon-looking dudes. And then he has to go to a castle? Weird things all around.
