In this Video I outline the top 5 investments to start with when first getting started in investing. 1: Invest in your physical and mental health. This first investment will improve confidence and eneergy. Focusing on this will give you the motivation to invest, learn and be consistent. 2: Invest in a Roth IRA (Individual Retirement Account). Investing in a Roth IRA is a great way to build wealth and it can be pulled out at retirement tax free. The best way to invest in a Roth is to practice Dollar Cost Averaging, specifically focused on Index Funds within the account. You have to fund the Roth with after tax dollars but the tax free growth outweighs this. 3: Make sure to take advantage of getting free money by investing in an employer matched 401K. Focus on investing at least up to the percentage that an employer will match in your 401K. Investing in the traditional 401K will also provide tax relief today by taking out the contributions before tax. 4: Invest in the triple tax advantaged HSA account. Using this for medical expenses is great and the tax breaks make it worth while. Contributions are pulled out pre-tax and are not taxed when used for qualifying medical expenses. The funds in an HSA account can also be invested and it is tax free growth. 5: Invest in your career, business and/or side hustle. Investing in your main revenue streams will help you maximize your profits from it. Banks are meant to be a secure place to hold money. Why are we seeing bank failures in 2023? In this video I give a high level review on what caused the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) to fail. This was the first in several banks to collapse. The events are still ongoing at the time of this video but there is enough information to understand the cause. The Tech boom is partially to blame along with record low interest rates. Tech companies flooded SVB with money and SVB invested that money into bonds. Unfortunately, they bought these bonds when interest rates were at a record low and to battle inflation the Fed raised interest rates quite a bit. When SVB tried to sell those bonds to get the cash for their clients they had to sell them at a discount and lose money. This caused others to panic which resulted in a bank run.
