On Wednesday 3rd of May 2023 I visited the popular seaside resort of Scarborough in North Yorkshire. Scarborough is by far the largest seaside resort in the county of North Yorkshire and consists of a North Bay and a South Bay.
In this episode of North Yorkshire in Focus, I begin capturing the idyllic gardens of Scarborough's Peasholm Park. North Bay is often thought of as the quieter side of Scarborough although it is not short of things to do.
Crossing the road, I venture to Scarborough's North Bay Railway, Sky Trail, a water chute from 1931, and Scarborough Open Air Theatre. Walking by the very vibrant rentable chalets facing the North Sea, I follow the route of Scarborough's Royal Albert Drive discovering the Bathing Belle by Craig Knowles, and the sculpture of Freddie Gilroy that cost a staggering £48,000.
I then elevate myself on higher ground to walk beside Scarborough Castle where you receive views of North and South Bays as well as the castle itself. I gently return to shore level to explore the marina, harbour, Albert Strange Pontoons, Scarborough Lighthouse, a preserved naval gun that was discovered in the ocean, and the Diving Belle, another sculpture by Craig Knowles.
Following the trails of gift shops, cafes and restaurants, pubs and takeaways, amusements and other attractions upon Scarborough's South Bay, I capture the resorts busy side through to Scarborough Spa.
Crossing the Spa Bridge, I feature the Central Tramway, a statue of Queen Victoria and the Town Hall.
Although set back from Scarborough Seafront, I have also included some footage of the Midland Pullman charter train at Scarborough Railway Station. This train is a heritage diesel train painted in Midland Pullman livery.
I certainly enjoyed my visit to Scarborough, I hope you enjoy yours too!

This is the first video in a new series of footage shot in spring and summer 2023. We will be visiting further locations in the coming weeks.
The footage that follows was taken in April 2023 and features the idyllic and very popular village of Thornton le Dale in North Yorkshire. It is famous for its chocolate box thatched cottage, Eller Beck and its many weirs as well as some fantastic eateries around its market square. The market square also features its original stocks for the ill-behaved!
Thornton le Dale is also famous for Banger's and Cash (Matthewson's) on TV who not only auction classic cars, but they also have a motor museum too.
During the spring and summer, Thornton le Dale is very floral, and it is a great idea to take a walk around the entire village to admire the many stone and timber framed residential properties. Thornton le Dale gets its name from local thorn bushes and resides on the A170 between Thirsk and Scarborough, just a couple of miles from Pickering and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Thornton le Dale also has two public houses, The New Inn and The Buck Inn.
Thornton le Dale is on the Coastliner 840 bus route as well as the East Yorkshire 128 service between Helmsley and Scarborough. Enjoy the footage of Thornton le Dale North Yorkshire!
