Vexilla Regis Prodeunt - The King's Banners Come Forth
Gregorian Chant - Ressurection
Vexilla Regis Prodeunt (A Capella Catholic Choir - Gregorian Chant)
Arrangement by Caitlin Foster 2024
Sung by: Caitlin Foster, Emma Nwobilor, Michael Foster, and John Griffith
Author: Venantius Fortunatus (530-609)
Meter: Iambic dimeter
Translation: W. K. Blount
Liturgical Use: Vespers hymn from Passion Sunday to Wednesday of Holy Week. It is also the Vespers hymn on the Feasts of the Finding (May 3) and of the Exaltation (Sept. 14) of the Holy Cross. The Vexilla Regis was originally intended as a Processional Hymn, and it is still so used on Good Friday, when the Blessed Sacrament is carried from the Repository to the High Altar. Neale justly styles the Vexilla Regis “a world-famous hymn” and “one of the grandest in the treasury of the Latin Church.” It was composed by Fortunatus on the occasion of the reception of a relic of the True Cross, which was sent by the Emperor Justin II to St. Radegunde. (Taken from Rev. Matthew Britt’s The Hymns of the Breviary and Missal).

VOCES8: Lux Aeterna - Edward Elgar
Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
Requiem aeternam
dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
May light eternal shine upon them, O Lord, with Thy saints forever,
for Thou art kind.
Eternal rest
give to them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Coventry Carol - Traditional
Coventry Carol - Lyrics
Lully, lullah, thou little tiny child,
Bye bye, lully, lullay.
Thou little tiny child,
Bye bye, lully, lullay.
O sisters too, how may we do
For to preserve this day
This poor youngling for whom we sing,
"Bye bye, lully, lullay"?
Herod the king, in his raging,
Chargèd he hath this day
His men of might in his own sight
All young children to slay.
That woe is me, poor child, for thee
And ever mourn and may
For thy parting neither say nor sing,
"Bye bye, lully, lullay."

One of the world’s most celebrated ensembles, The King’s Singers have a packed schedule of concerts, recordings, media, and education work that spans the globe. Championing the work of young and established composers, they remain consummate entertainers; a class-act with delightfully British wit. From Gesualdo and György Ligeti to Michael Bublé, The King’s Singers are instantly recognizable for their spot-on intonation, their impeccable vocal blend, the flawless articulation of the text, and incisive timing.
The King’s Singers have an extraordinary history on television. A favorite of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with whom they performed as part of the Winter Olympics, they appeared on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas Concert to a combined live audience of 80,000.

Ave Verum Corpus - Hail True Body
Ave verum corpus, natum
de Maria Virgine,
vere passum, immolatum
in cruce pro homine
cuius latus perforatum
fluxit aqua et sanguine:
esto nobis praegustatum
in mortis examine.
[O Iesu dulcis, O Iesu pie,
O Iesu, fili Mariae.
Miserere mei. Amen]

Gaudete! Christus est natus! Rejoice! Christ is born!
Refrain
Rejoice, rejoice Christ is born
Gaudete, gaudete Christos est natus
From the virgin Mary, rejoice.
Ex Maria virginae, gaudete.
Rejoice, rejoice Christ is born
Gaudete, gaudete Christos est natus
From the virgin Mary, rejoice.
Ex Maria virginae, gaudete.
This is the time of thanksgiving that we wished for.
Tempus ad est gratiae hoc quod optabamus,
We devoutly sing songs of joy.
Carmina laetitiae devote redamus.
Refrain
God became man, being nature,
Deus homo factus est naturam erante,
The world has been renewed by the reigning Christ.
Mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante.
Refrain
Ezekiel's gate was closed by the passerby
Ezecheelis porta clausa per transitor
Whence the light arose, the finder of pebbles.
Unde lux est orta sallus invenitor.
Refrain
Therefore, our congregation sings already in the twilight,
Ergo nostra contio psallat jam in lustro,
Bless the lord of the saddles for our king.
Benedicat domino sallas regi nostro.
Refrain (2x)
