Dr. Martin Pall was a biochemistry and essential medical sciences professor at Washington State University (WSU). The number of drug overdose deaths involving prescription opioids in 2021 was nearly five times the number in 1999. In 2021, 45 people died each day from a prescription opioid overdose, totaling 17,000 deaths.
