Truenas and AD FLOP! - Software Tutorials - semi-advanced overview - 22
Truenas is king of open-source storage.
However, when it comes to working in team with AD, it doesn't play very nice.
here's my take on it.
through sweat and patience, I went and tested WS 2016-22 and truenas 11-13, and every combination in between. Fail after fail. error after error. it just seems that truenas doesn't love active directory.
Verdict? please use WS (any version) for a file storage server IF you need a centralized user management system. if you have truenas for just a few users, I will wholeheartedly recommend truenas as your file storage Alcatraz due to how amazing it is in its entirety.

Services - DHCP Server - Enable Static ARP Entries
and
DHCP Name Resolution (DNS Resolver)
I mixed the explanation for those 2 abilities of PFSense.
What I said for STATIC ARP Entries applies for DHCP Name Resolution and what I said for DHCP Name Resolution Applies for STATIC ARP Entries
END Correction
The first, and probably one of the most important steps of anyone setting their home lab, work lab or home serve environment, is to setup their network. The Veins of their network.
For this purpose, I have virtualized PFsense and created some demo VMs which will be used for demonstrative uses to walk you through some primary scenarios.

40Gbps and LAGGs - Is too much bandwidth a thing? - Very Basic summary - 15
I am verry happy to announce that the 40 and 10Gbps Laggs are operational.
Each server now has 10Gbps LACP LAG, resulting in a 20Gbps effective BW and the uplink going to the pfsense firewall has a 40Gbps LACP LAG, which results in a 80Gbps Effective BW connection.
Setting up the switches was very simple with the dell GUI. I have to admit I was a bit reserved on whether or not it would work, but with the manual by my side, everything worked out ok!
MTU has been changed, connectivity is present, and all the servers which need over 1Gbps connectivity have it.
The wonderful thing about over 10Gbps BW is that anything that needs essentially full access to a piece of HW located on another server, basically has it!
don't worry about the red flashing light, it just means the 2nd PSU is not plugged in.
I have a few other subjects which are going to be on the way fairly soon, I'm really excited to share it with you all.
Happy Blinky Activity lights!

time to remodel! and rant! - re-running some cables and blah blah blah - Basic Overview - 14
Remodeling took longer than anticipated, video wasn't edited too much since I wanted to keep it as close to raw material as I could to present some of things that are usually cut off from top tier YTers.
Long story short, it's not over. The reason? Mikrotik.
I assume my mikrotik switch refuses to play nice with the rest of my networking kit so, it's time to switch it up.
I have a switch on the way.
I also rant about some mini subject.
Cleanliness of your rack. Copper vs Light GBICs, different types of cables and the nature of upcoming material.
Why are you still reading the description? watch the video.
Thanks for watching!

Upgrade your Consumer PC storage with SAS - Part 2 - Advanced Basic overview - 7
Venture with me to madness and making incompatible parts compatible.
I keep telling myself this is not a mistake.
Learn to solder (poorly) and avoid fire hazards by following this one simple rule! Electrical load balancing so easy that even Electroboom would be proud of you!!
Once you've made sure the house is not set on fire, please proceed to install hard disks to the point you put even L1techs to shame.
Rinse and repeat until you're happy with how many hard disks you have!
Or, you know, cry yourself to sleep after seeing how broke you've become due to rising costs. Whatever is more appealing.
Who said storage expandability had to be fun!?!
NOT THIS GUY!

Let's venture into SAS.
This is a very brief video about the pros vs cons about SAS and SATA.
On one hand it's more performant, cheaper, and more dense.
On the other hand, it's not not as plug and play as you would think.
let's go on an adventure!

Proliant DL380 G9 Flex bay tutorial - The "perfect" storage resolution - Basic overview - 5
Quick video tutorial on how to install the Flex Bay for DL380 Gen9.
In my personal Opinion, this rear flex bay is the perfect solution to resolving geographical issues in servers when it comes to finding a place for your boot drive.
Data and power cables can sometimes be a PITA, especially when it comes to limited real estate.
Glad to see HP stepped up to the challenge!

Proliant DL380 Gen9 - Proxmox Install - Ceph and Clustering - Basic overview - 4
Welcome Back to another video!
I've been gone for a week because I needed a replacement for my environment.
You can imagine how surprised I am now that proxmox is setup and running and a full HCI infrastructure across 3x DL380 G9 servers, with 100+ CPU cores, 300+ Gb Ram and almost 54Tb of space!
In this video I will install proxmox and ceph on the DL380 G9 file server, and join it to the compute cluster!

Proliant Gen8 vs Gen9 Storage - basic overview - 3
Last video of the day! Sorry for the bombardment.
Despite not having perfect reference, sorry, no p420 on hand! I did manage to go into a bit of detail when it comes to the storage controller(s) sold with gen8 proliants and the storage controllers sold with the gen9 proliants.
Tldr; the *main* difference is double the bandwidth! And cache speed! 1333 vs 1600mhz on the cache modules.
All joking aside, these behemoths are very respectable for their generational pairings with the host machines and for homelab use case scenarios
