Growing Kiwifruit in the backyard

I did a walk through in July to discuss my vines and what I have growing. Some of the kiwi turned out decent size, and some of them turned out tiny. Growing them from seed, you never know what you'll get !

These vines are three years old, grown from seed. I''ve trimmed them back a lot this past fall. We'll see how they do in 2023.

I purchased some greenhouse plastic to put over my kiwi during the spring to protect them from late frost. This winter we had extended temperatures down to 7 degrees F. I was not sure how the kiwi would fare, so I put my plastic up and ran propane at night.

I've used CD's and holographic scare tape to keep the birds and squirrels away. It has worked well for years on my fig tree. I put it up before the fruit is ripe and take them down immediately after harvest.

These vines are three years old and grown from seed.

Bumblebees have done the most pollination of my vineyard. They work from sunrise to sunset. I've found the ground hive and am doing what I can to protect it.
