'Putin will never press the nuclear button,' says top Ukrainian official. What do you say?
As Ukraine asks the West for hundreds of modern tanks to defend itself against Russian aggression, the head of Ukraine's national security and defence council, Oleksiy Danilov, sat down with FRANCE 24 correspondent and reporter Gulliver Cragg in Kyiv. What is the current state of Russia's military arsenal? | DW News
Ukraine declared a nationwide air raid alert on Thursday as Russia continues its missile attacks.
The head of Ukraine's army, Valery Zaluzhny, said Russia launched 55 air and sea-based missiles.
"Ukraine's armed forces destroyed 47 cruise missiles, 20 of them in the area of the capital," he added on the Telegram messaging service.
The Russian military has been firing missiles and drones at critical infrastructure, notably energy facilities, since October.
Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said one person had been killed in the capital, the first death there from an attack in the capital since New Year's Eve. He said two other people were injured in the strike.
Ukraine's military said it downed all 24 Russian drones fired at the country overnight, including 15 in the Kyiv region, with no reports of damage in the capital.
