Starship | SN10 | High-Altitude Flight Test
On Wednesday, March 3, Starship serial number (SN10) successfully completed SpaceX’s third high-altitude flight test of a Starship prototype from our site in Cameron County, Texas.
Similar to the high-altitude flight tests of Starship SN8 and SN9, SN10 was powered through ascent by three Raptor engines, each shutting down in sequence prior to the vehicle reaching apogee – approximately 10 km in altitude. SN10 performed a propellant transition to the internal header tanks, which hold landing propellant, before reorienting itself for reentry and a controlled aerodynamic descent.
The Starship prototype descended under active aerodynamic control, accomplished by independent movement of two forward and two aft flaps on the vehicle. All four flaps were actuated by an onboard flight computer to control Starship’s attitude during flight and enabled a precise landing at the intended location. SN10’s Raptor engines reignited as the vehicle performed the landing flip maneuver immediately before successfully touching down on the landing pad!
As if the flight test was not exciting enough, SN10 experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly shortly after landing. These test flights are all about improving our understanding and development of a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo on long-duration interplanetary flights and help humanity return to the Moon, and travel to Mars and beyond.

California mudslides buried the street! Flooding and rockslide causing major damage
The latest Pacific storm unleashed torrential downpours and damaging winds in California, turning city streets into rivers as mudslides cut off highways. More than 20 million people across California are under flood alerts as the risk of mudslides also spreads to the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.
Officials issued immediate evacuation orders for the entire community of Montecito, as well as for parts of Santa Barbara and other nearby towns, because of heightened flood and mudslide hazards.
The Montecito evacuation zone was among 17 California regions where authorities worry the ongoing torrential downpours could unleash lethal cascades of mud, boulders and other debris in the hillsides.
In the Rancho Oso area of the Santa Ynez Mountains, mud and debris across the roadway isolated about 400 people. Some areas saw mudslides close roads and cover cars. The neighbourhood saw a flow of debris estimated to be 1.5 metres tall.
In Ventura County, north of Los Angeles, mudslides trapped a big rig and other vehicles on State Route 126. The local media reported the rain washed 3 feet of mud and rock across the road.
In addition, a Northern California highway was closed after a large rockslide made travel impossible. An estimated 220,000 California homes were without electricity on Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service said Tuesday’s storm will quickly move east towards the central Plains region of the United States by Wednesday. However, it warned of new systems ready to hit California in the coming days.
The channel lists such natural disasters as:
1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, Volcanic eruption, Mud, Landslide, Avalanche;
2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological disaster,
3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire;
4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Tornado, Hail, Hurricane, Tsunami, Storm, Thunderstorm, Tempest.

California are underwater now! Flash flooding in Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz due rain storm
The latest wave of strong winds and torrential rain to hit California in recent days caused severe flooding and significant damage along the state’s central coast. Several locations in the county had recorded between 9 and 11 inches of rainfall in the 24 hours.
The weather system, which forecasters warned was stronger than its predecessors, forced evacuations and major-highway closures from Monterey to Santa Barbara.
The local authorities warned of life-threatening flash flooding in Montecito and around Santa Barbara after torrents submerged roads and triggered mudslides. About half a foot of rain had fallen in Santa Barbara by Monday evening and nearly 13 inches at San Marcos Pass in the mountains to its northeast.
The Santa Barbara Airport was also closed due to flooding and commercial flights were canceled. Tens of thousands of people remained without power, and some schools closed for the day. Additionally, flash flood warnings have been issued throughout Santa Cruz County, urging people not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

California storms put dent in long-running drought
All the rain hitting California this week is only making a dent in the state's historic drought. Part of the problem is that the state doesn't have the infrastructure to store the rainwater, and most of it will end up in the Pacific Ocean. Ben Tracy has more.
