Archeological Site of Nea Pafos 🇨🇾
Welcome to Paphos Cyprus! The archaeological site of Nea Pafos (onysusAphrodite’s Sacred City) near Paphos Harbour in Cyprus houses the remains of what was once the capital of the island.
Since 1980, Nea Pafos has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are Villas, houses, an Oden (like an amphetheatre but had a roof) with evidence of settlements from Neolithic times to a World War 2 Bunker I found.
There are some of the best preserved historic mosaics in the world (theres a seperate video just with these, but I added more video of them at the end of this video at the 25 min mark.
Its 4.50 euros to get in (pensioners free) and is a HUGE site, I was there about 4 hours. bring some water as there is little shade.

Abandoned Houses, resteurants, hotels, even bingo halls.
It seems in Paphos Cyprus, they leave them open, possibly for the homeless to shelter in.
Half built buildings, they are everywhere. come explore with me.
Most of this was filmed either in Kato Paphos (the beach front area) or up in the hills in the old town of Paphos.

Tombs of the Kings Paphos 🇨🇾
Tafoi ton Vasileon
disclaimer - there are no Kings burried here, just rich and powerful, but its a good tagline right (not mine) ?
The site dates back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods
the first tomb I checked out seemed to have sandstone attached to standstome (geopolymer or man made sandstone)
I think it was probably a quarry that was repurposed for tombs, as it would make no sence to remove so much of the sandstone for the tombs that were standing above ground. unless they were made from geopolymer also.
2.50 Euro entry for the HUGE site.

Cute Cats of Cyprus 🇨🇾
The beautiful Island of Cyprus, an Island with 4 Nations (The Republic of Cyprus (Greek Cypriot), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, 2 areas controlled by the UK, and a buffer zone still controlled by the UN)
with more cats than people.
Here cats are free (lets face it, anyone who has 'owned' a cat knows they go where they get the best treatment/food etc)
Here the people accept it, leaving food out (hopefully the large cat population keeps rats in check from eating the food too).
So enjoy many cats, and a cool abandoned house I found to explore.

Finchale Priory Durham 🇬🇧
Finchale Priory , locally called Finchale Abbey, is a 13th-century Benedictine priory. The remains are sited by the River Wear, four miles from Durham, England.
It is a Grade I listed building.
The church remained in various stages of construction for over a century after 1196. The most significant change following its completion was the narrowing of the nave and the chancel during the 1360s and 1370s through the removal of the aisles. Various construction projects lasted at Finchale through the mid-15th century as the church dates in part from around 1200 and in others from the late 14th century. The Hospitium (guest house) and a part of the prior's house date from the mid-15th century.
Finchale remained a priory until the dissolution of the lesser monasteries in 1536. During this time Finchale had 52 priors and accounting records still exist for much of the period 1303-1535. During much of its history the priory served as a rest facility for the monks at Durham as four Durham monks would travel to Finchale for a three-week period to join the four monks in residence. During these periods of rest the Durham monks would alternate between fulfilling their religious services as usual and exercising more freedoms (in terms of leaving the monastery) than they usually enjoyed.

Brigante Forts, Viking markers & Churches - Stanwick 🇬🇧
In historic Forcett (North Yorkshire England) I visit Forcett Hall , with a gatehouse, coaching area and Hall.
St John The Baptists Church (Stanwick) with re-used Anglo-saxon (& possibly Roman) stone with carvings of swords!Inside is a boundary marker for the edge of DaneLaw (the area the vikings ruled) showing someone being attacked by a wild beast/monster. Very unusal to find in a church!
Outside we find a stone tomb, open, with a drainhole, was this used for preparing bodies?
https://www.visitchurches.org.uk/visit/church-listing/st-john-stanwick.html
Between Forcett & Stanwick are remains of a Brigante fort - probably their centre of power before the Roman invasion, when they moved to Aldborough. The remains dominate the fields with 10ft+ high embankments still to be seen easily and rules what we now consider the north of England.

This was filmed in a clean family bedroom.
Thtis is the first time I have seen something react to the "orbs" as they get called.
The dog does not seem agressive or scared but curious,

The historical mystery of The Castles - Bedburn - Durham England 🇬🇧
An enigmatic earthwork with dry stone walls of uncertain date. ' The Castles' is a trapezoidal enclosure covering just over an acre with dry stone rubble walls averaging 16 feet thick and originally 11 feet high. There is late ridge and furrow inside the enclosure. Trenching of the site has failed to establish its function or date.
A few Bronze Age flints, including an arrowhead have been found on the site.
There is no historical documentation which provides a builder's name and a date and the structure does not appear on a map until 1820.
Who built it?
Why build such fortifications?
When was it built?
Some think it was post Roman (400-500AD) but this is just an estimate.
with nothing much to date, this massive fort remains a mystery & stimulates the imagination.

New Years Day, lets go searching for a Grade 1 listed building in the County Durham Countryside.
I only knew it as The Old Hall, but I think it's originally Langley Hall
It's a grade 2 listed building (6/2/52).
Remains of Langley Hall. Early 16th century for Henry Lord Scrope, the Manor having been in his family before that.
I cant find anything else about the site or how long its been abandoned.
