Research shows that most people spend an average of 7 hours per day sitting, which increases to 15 hours per day when you include other sedentary activities besides sleeping. This sedentary lifestyle leads to weight gain, mood disturbances, spinal deformities, posture imbalances, and other chronic conditions. In this video, we will look at the effects sitting for long periods has on our lungs, spine, lower back, muscles, and circulatory system. In addition to physical health problems, sitting for long periods can also hurt our mental health. A sedentary lifestyle has been linked to an increased risk of depression and anxiety, as well as a decrease in cognitive function. The impact of desk jobs and sitting all day is even worse during the pandemic with the mass adoption of work-from-home policies. It is important to minimize the negative impact of sitting all day.
