How to Make the Raddest Shooting Competition
After competing in a number of shooting competitions, some better than others, I think there is some room for improvement. I got to thinking about how to make the Raddest Shooting Competition...
Unless you're chasing the prize table and sponsor money, shooting competitions are about having fun. So why not take the fun to the next level? Most shooting competitions are really just LARPing (Live Action Role Play) at a certain level. So how about totally embracing that and adding some story to the match and stages. Who doesn't want to re-enact the shootout scene from the movie HEAT? What about stages pulled from Die Hard? Or for that matter, any of the more popular video games? And if pop culture isn't your thing, you could make incredible course design that pays respect to Medal of Honor recipients. So many opportunities to make some rad shooting competitions. Brining them story that you flesh out with details, making it an awesome experience...

Sig P320 X Compact
Find the pistol here: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=cl&merchant_id=855e0b56-67a2-40d0-aa2b-a0764ca94489&website_id=cf2a4625-364f-4607-94e0-2422d747ca79&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Fguns%2Fhandguns%2Fsemi-auto-handguns%2Fp320-9mm-3.6-x-series-compact%2F
Lets take a look at the Sig Sauer P320 X Compact. It is the smallest of the P320 line as well as the X Series of pistols. With a 3.6" barrel and a 15 round capacity, it brings a fair bit to the table. One of the biggest advantages, is the serialized trigger package. Allowing you to switch out grip modules and barrels. Effectively turning your EDC (Every Day Carry) Pistol into a competition pistol if you want.

CZ 527 Carbine: Barrel Threading by IAT
I met up with Brad of IAT (Innovative Ammunition Technologies) to have some gunsmith work done. I decided to SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) my CZ 527 Carbine chambered in 7.62x39. In part because it would allow me to have plain threads on the barrel. So instead of only being able to use my SureFire SOCOM 762 Mini suppressor on it, I could use pretty much any 30 caliber can, to include the Liberty Mystic X.
Brad did a great job cutting down and threading my barrel. After cutting it to 12", he put a target crown on it as well. Now any suppressor or muzzle device can be easily swapped out. I'm looking forward to getting more time on the range with this fun little rifle.

Ultradyne C4 Folding Sights
Find them here: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=cl&merchant_id=855e0b56-67a2-40d0-aa2b-a0764ca94489&website_id=cf2a4625-364f-4607-94e0-2422d747ca79&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2Frifle-parts%2Fsights%2Fsight-sets%2Fc4-folding-front-and-rear-sight-combo-prod118560.aspx
While iron sights on rifles, often relegated to Back Up Iron Sights (BUIS), are somewhat of a lost art these days, I think the Ultradyne C4 Folding Sights really add something.
As a big fan of rear peep sights, Ultradyne capitalizes on this and makes the process easier. They do so by adding ultimately a front peep sight as well. So when the shooters goes to sight in, they keep hard focus on their target and line the circles up, which the eye and brain are really good at. As opposed to the old style of iron sights where you have to shift focal planes and keep a hard focus on the front sight post.
You can find the Ultradyne C4 Front and Rear Sight Combo here.

TiFs Lighter by Prometheus Design Werx
Depending on your lifestyle and what kind of adventures you find yourself on, the ability to light a fire can be incredibly important. Enter the TiFs Lighter by Prometheus Design Werx.
The TiFs, standing for Titanium Fire Starter, is just that, a fire starter. It is a self contained and sealed lighter, machined out of titanium. Thanks to the O-ring seal, the fuel won't evaporate out like some other lighters. And since you can refill the fuel and change out wicks and flints as needed, the TiFs stands to last a incredibly long time. Perfect for backpacking or whatever adventures you find yourself in. A solid addition to your EDC (Every Day Carry).
You can find the Prometheus Design Werx TiFs here.

What's for Dinner with GB Guns
I had the good fortune of getting together with Graham from GB Guns and have him run me through "What's for Dinner." If you are unfamiliar with him, he has his own YouTube channel where he creates all kinds of content around firearms. One of the segments he does when reviewing guns is "What's for Dinner." A pretty cool little test for rifles and pistols to give you an idea of how well they function with loads of various weights. Today I tried 10 different loads of 9mm, varying from 65 grain up to 158 grain. Definitely a different recoil impulse and performance through those loads.
You can see more of GB Guns' videos here.

Primary Arms 1x Cyclops
The review of the Primary Arms Cyclops 1x Prism Optic is long overdue. I've put in a lot of hours / days with this little optic over the last year or so. That said, here it is…
Depending on your eyesight, this may or may not be a big deal. For people who wear corrective lenses, have an astigmatism or even just older eyes for that matter, red dots can be hard to see clearly. They can bloom out or lose their shape when looking at / through them. For me, the etched reticle of the Primary Arms Cyclops alleviates this.
The Cyclops uses their ACSS Reticle which I'm becoming a fan of. There is a large horseshoe which aids in close up shots, but when you want to refine your point of aim, the chevron inside the horseshoe allows for that. Not to mention there is no need for batteries.
The 1x Cyclops gives you a lot of advantages found with red dots, while at the same time, giving you a clean crisp etched reticle.

Ira Jatta: The Story of a Rifle
All guns have a story, but some have more of a story than others. This video is about a rifle, a Winchester Model 1895 in 30-40 Krag, that was handed down to me by my grandfather. It belonged to an old cowboy in my family and in turn became the inspiration for the names of my boys.

Varusteleka: 25km Remote Military March *2020*
You can find links to the gear here: https://kitbadger.com/varusteleka-25km-remote-military-march-2020/
Sometimes it is good to push yourself. Doing so can give you some insight into your capabilities, potentially build confidence and maybe provide you with some feedback on places you need to improve. I can say all of those things occurred for my boys and I when we set out on the Varusteleka Remote Military March of 2020.
If you are unfamiliar with Varusteleka, they are a awesome company over in Finland that make a number of outdoor and military related products. Since Finland shares a border with Russia, and Russia has done a lot of shady stuff in the past centuries, they maintain a high state of readiness. Due to the whole Covid-19 thing, they had to cancel scheduled training this spring, so they decided to try something new, a Remote Military March. Where people can go out as individuals or in small groups and complete a 25 to 50 kilometer march. All while carrying a 10 kilogram (about 22 pounds) pack.
So my boys and I, accompanied by my buddy Matt from Jerking The Trigger, set out on a 25km march. It was an amazing experience and I couldn't be prouder of my boys for accomplishing it. Not to mention completing a 10 minute fire challenge in the middle of the movement. :)
Find out more about Varusteleka here.

1st Look: Arsenal Democracy AD-15 Pistol & SureFeed E2 Magazines
Today I take a 1st Look at the Arsenal Democracy AD-15 AR Pistol as well as the SureFeed E2 Magazines. Shooting Surplus sent both out, along with some ammunition, for me to put in some time with them.
While I decidedly failed the Runenation Cold Start, the rest of the morning went pretty good. The AD-15 Pistol ran smooth with the new SureFeed Magazines, even though I ran it dry right out of the box, to include suppressed with a SureFire SOCOM 556 RC2 suppressor. As I get more time with the set up I'll bring you a full review.

Prototype 5.56 Sugar Weasel by Q
I have gotten a ton of questions about my prototype 5.56 Sugar Weasel by Q LLC, so here it is. Some of the backstory of how I came have it, how it has performed for me and my thoughts on it. Spoiler, it is a rad little gun. I've had a ton of fun with this pistol / carbine as I've competed with it in the Tactical Games and spent hours on the range with it. I'm especially pleased with it at the 2019 South Carolina Games when I was shooting with some Ultradyne Sights from the top of an 8 story building...
For the accuracy testing I mounted a Arken Optics 4-14x44 First Focal Plane SH-4 scope. Using various loads, I found (for me, out there that day) I would get consistent 1.5 MOA groups from good ammo. Which I'm totally pleased with. This little rifle is a ton of fun to shoot.

Range Day with Caleb and Reed
Sometimes your Range Day is very structured with the intent of working through deficiencies, fundamentals or maybe a new drill… And other days it is about getting together with friends and having a rad time. That is exactly what this day was about with myself and a few friends…
We had some goodness from Q LLC out there in the form of a couple of Honey Badgers, a MiniFix Pistol and Rifle in 300 Blackout and .224 Valkyrie respectively, along with a pretty sweet Knights Armament .308 and some Noveske goodness…

In this video with Bill Rapier, of AMTAC Shooting, he goes over some of the important parts of Compact Carbine Deployment from a vehicle. More and more people are carrying compact carbines or AR-15 pistols which provide a massive increase in capability over traditional pistols. But it is important to know how to deploy these weapons, to include from vehicles, which people spend a lot of time in.

How To Install a JP Silent Capture Spring into a Gen3 Law Tactical Folder
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/how-to-install-a-jp-silent-capture-spring-into-a-gen3-law-tactical-folder/
In this video I go over how to install a JP Silent Capture Spring into a Gen3 Law Tactical Folding Stock Adapter. For the host weapon I am using a Sugar Weasel by Q LLC. While it is fairly straight forward, there are a few nuanced differences between this and a regular buffer and spring. Such as installing the buffer retaining pin as well as shimming the Silent Capture Spring if need be.
The only tool needed, if you already have your Law Tactical Folder installed, is a Castle Nut Wrench. For this I used the Castle Nut Wrench from my set of Fix-It-Sticks.

Firearm Basics: Part - 15 Taking Your 1st Shots
As my series on Firearm Basics has progressed, we've finally gotten to Part 15, in which we talk about taking your first shots on that first trip to the range. While there is a ton to try and remember, the thing above all else is safety. We want it to be a safe first trip to the range so that we can go again. One of the ways to do this is by loading our magazine with only 1 round initially, until we get more comfortable with our pistol or rifle.

You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/firearm-basics-part-14-preparing-for-a-successful-trip-to-the-range/
As we continue our journey on Firearm Ownership, we get ready for the range. Proper planning and packing for the range can make a world of difference. On the one hand it can alleviate the frustration of getting to the range and realizing you are missing something. But even more importantly, setting out to the range with a plan will foster growth. Having some structure of what we look to accomplish and how we plan to accomplish it is a big deal. It keeps us on track, refining skills and saves us money by putting good use to the ammunition we bring to the range.

Firearm Basics: Part - 13 Selecting the Right Ammunition
As we continue the journey of Responsible Firearm Ownership, we get to ammunition. Not all ammunition is created equal. It is important we use the appropriate ammunition for the task at hand. By way of example, training ammunition is great for training and usually economical as well. But when it comes to defensive use, we want ammunition made specifically for that task. Defensive Ammunition, such as G9 Bullets External Hollow Points, performs differently from training ammunition like Minuteman Munitions Blue Coat rounds.
