12 Times Hippos Attacked Their Enemies
Despite its intimidating appearance, the hippo is one of Africa's most underappreciated creatures in terms of fearlessness and potentially violent disposition. Hippos are one of Africa's largest animals, and they aren't known for being cheerful, and they kill more people each year than lions, leopards, crocodiles, or any other significant predator. If you want to see how hippos’ rule, keep watching as we count down 12 times hippos attacked their enemies.

LIONS
The hippo is another animal that lions rarely attack for obvious reasons. Watch how this hippo hunts down this lion and almost kills it with a single bite in this first clip. I’m sure the lion was injured, but it could have been worse. Hippos, despite their size, move quickly and are difficult to catch, even for a pride of lions. When lions attack baby hippos, they should expect fierce reprisal if the mother is around. During a drought, the scarcity of drinking water isn't the only issue. Another issue is a shortage of rain and water, which makes it difficult for food to be rich in nutrients. As a result, hippos become quite territorial, challenging animals they would ordinarily avoid, such as the lion in this video. This lion is not really looking for trouble, but the hippo wants the lion out of his territory. When the lion has had enough, it actually charges the hippo and the hippo relaxes, realizing, it's not worth the risk, especially when you take into consideration this is a young hippo and the lion would probably have the upper hand in a fight. This huge hippo bull confronts a male lion. They kind of stare at each other, but nothing more. The bull hippo is wondering what to do and the lion will probably react to what the hippo does. Neither one of them look like they’re in a rush until the hippo tries to flank the lion. That’s when the big feline decides to scamper off and position himself so he can see exactly what the hippo is doing. This hippo is forced to find a new bathing pool but must defy this pride of lions to gain access to it. You can see all the bite marks on the hippo’s body as it’s trying to chase the big cats away. The hippo’s hard work pays off and the lion pride decides to hold their picnic elsewhere.
WILD DOGS
Wild dogs don't favor hippos as prey, but they both loathe each other. Hippos and wild dogs are known for chasing each other while attempting to grab impala or other prey, which is why they don't get along. I'm not sure if hippos fear wild dogs, but they sure do find them bothersome. These wild dogs harass this massive hippo in this video. It's not as if the dogs will gain anything from this encounter, other than some entertainment. Because this is such a large and strong hippo, the wild dogs would take an enormous risk trying to take it down, which is unlikely. So, how do the dogs behave? They conclude that they've wasted enough of their time, and this hippo's time as well, and decide to call it a day. These dogs have already chased this young impala into the river. It was swimming wildly from side to side, looking for a way out. The disturbance irritated this massive hippo, who attempted to force the young impala into the water. Meanwhile, an adult impala, possibly the mother of the floundering baby, approached the water's edge. In a couple of seconds, the dogs were on it, but the Hyenas seized their prize and tore into the carcass. After fending off an attack by the increasingly angry hippo, the dogs redirected their focus to the youngster, and one brave dog swam into the dam in an attempt to snatch the impala. At this point, the newborn impala was exhausted and began to sink beneath the surface. All of this was too much for the hippo, who, after scaring the dog away from the kill, slung the carcass back over its shoulder. The dogs were defeated, and all they could do was stand there and watch as the impala plunged to its death at the dam's bottom. Today's meal isn't going to be on the lake for these dogs! This hippo is enraged and moves from side to side in the water keeping its huge mouth open, showing its monstrous fangs to these three wild dogs. The dogs are hesitant, but they know better than to mess around with this maniac! Another colossal hippo is attempting to find some peace and quiet in this watering hole, but guess who shows up to disrupt the fun? A pack of wild dogs, of course, is always on the lookout for an opportunity.

Hippo Vs Lion
In this marvelous clip by “latest sightings” three lions find out what happens when they intrude into hippo territory. A huge hippo speeds towards them and chases them out of the waterhole. The lions don’t insist and scram out of there with blinding speed. A large lion pride attacks a lone hippo in the middle of the night. The pride is made up of many females and sub-adults attacking from all sides, but the hippo is tough. He manages to run off with the felines in pursuit. The younger cats are listless and uncoordinated, unsure of what to do next.
The hippo kills one of the felines and manages to save his own life. The waterline marks the boundary, and to cross it, he better be primed for battle.
Hippo Vs Rhino
An enraged hippo attempts to bite this rhino's horn, but the rhino's horn is lodged in the hippo's mouth, making it difficult for the hippo to close its mouth on the rhino. Nevertheless, the hippo charges and plows the rhino into the ground. This hippo reminds me of Pavarotti, singing the classic "Nessun Dormi" to this rhino who’s not that impressed. The presence of this rhino at their waterhole irritates these two hippos, who challenge him to a shouting contest, but the rhino remains calm and simply stands there listening to the hippo's high-pitched voice. Oh, wait, the rhino is finally struck by the hippo, which bites it and turns it on its side.
This rhino doesn't appear to be much of a threat to the hippos. Rhinos and hippos are not afraid of many creatures and will go up against any of the large cats. They are occasionally slain by a pride of lions, but this is rare because they are difficult to bring down and carry weapons of their own that can cause significant damage. But what happens when a rhino and hippo cross paths? It goes something like in this video. The hippo yells and the rhino just stand there, and usually, that’s the end of that. But something, they push and shove each other to try and intimidate their opponent.

HIPPO ATTACKS 3 LIONS CROSSING THE RIVER
3 lions busy crossing the river get attacked by an angry hippo that was being territorial over its water, will they make it across safely?
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: https://www.latestsightings.com/partn...
This nail-biting sighting took place in the Selinda Reserve in Botswana.
Great Plains Conservation shared this incredible footage and story with LatestSightings.com:
Lions are often referred to as the kings of the jungle. For the most part, this is true, as they are very dominant and territorial animals and of course predators by nature. They are incredible hunters and do not step out of their territories without good reason. But of course, just like any other animal - they will need to move through difficult terrain and risk dangerous encounters. Especially when their circumstances require it.
This pride of lion was attempting to cross the Selinda spillway in Botswana. They were clearly aware of the hippos around them but obviously felt the need to get to the other side of the river. As soon as they started to cross, they realized they were now in unchartered waters that had already been claimed. But was it too late to turn around?
Hippos are also very territorial and also known as very dangerous animals - especially when one gets too close to the water. Four lions crossing were understandably a threat to these hippos as they just saw these massive lions entering their territory. Unaware that the cats were most probably merely trying to cross.
The one hippo makes it his mission to get these lions out of the water. Not to necessarily eat or even injure the lion severely. Merely to make it clear that they do not welcome uninvited guests in their home.
Two lions succeeded in crossing the river, but the other two managed to turn around in time and swim back to the other side. All in all, no lions were severely injured. However, half of the pride were yet to decide how to get back over to their pride members on the other side.

Great Dane puppy adorably uses stuffed bunny as soother
Raven is a big puppy with a big dog attitude. But when it's time for bed, she's a big baby. Raven has a big collection of stuffed toys and things to chew on. But here favourite has always been this stuffed bunny. It's one of the few toys that has not been ripped apart. She adores her bunny and carries it to bed with her each night. Raven's routine involves jumping up on the bed with her stuffy in her mouth and turning around 6-8 times as many dogs do. Then she settles down and chews gently or sucks on the bunny like it is a pacifier. She often falls asleep with her mouth on the toy. What makes this even more adorable is the huge, floppy lips that envelop the stuffed bunny almost completely. Raven wakes up in the morning and carries the bunny with her to her dish where she waits for breakfast. She leaves her bunny on the floor after breakfast but always goes looking for it when it is nap or bed time. Great Danes are a magnificent animal and the breed is fiercely loyal. Anyone who has ever owned one has fallen in love with these great beasts.

Monkey politely asks guide for food in Bali, Indonesia
This monkey lives in a wonderful sanctuary known as the Monkey Forest in Ubud, on the Island of Bali in Indonesia. He's a wise old soul who has become accustomed to the guides and the fact that they have food. Although the monkeys roam freely and wild, they are provided with food supplementation and veterinary care when needed. They have learned that the guides will give them a treat if they tug gently on the pants or shirts and then sit patiently. As predicted, this guide reaches into his pocket and provides his little friend with a peanut. The monkey takes the peanut gently and then asks for another. The monkeys here will approach and move among the guests, delighting tourists and residents as they do so.

Monkey nonchalantly saunters across 4 tourists' laps in Indonesia
This monkey lives in a wonderful sanctuary known as the Monkey Forest in Ubud, on the Island of Bali in Indonesia. He's a brazen fellow who has become accustomed to the tourists here. The monkeys here are comfortable with tourists too and they enjoy a very good life. They are provided with food supplementation and veterinary care when needed. They have learned that the guides will give them a treat if they tug gently on the pants or shirts and then sit patiently. But this cheeky monkey is so comfortable that he casually walks across the laps of four seated tourists to get to the other side of the wall on which they are seated. The monkeys here will approach and move among the guests, delighting tourists and residents as they do so. You can tell by the reactions of these visitors that they are not sure exactly what to expect when this happens. They are charmed by the bold and saucy interaction and they laugh and joke at the monkey's nonchalance.

Great Dane puppy adorably begs for strawberry treats
Raven is a big puppy with a big love for unusual foods. She adores strawberries almost as much as she adores steak or chicken. As her family sits outside at the picnic table, Raven makes sure that they don't forget about her share! Raven is a dog who has found her forever family and she has them wrapped around her finger. She enjoys free roam of several acres of grass and trees throughout the day. She also lives very near an immense forest where she is taken almost every day. She explores off leash, romping along the trails and running freely through the trees. She chases chipmunks, although she has never caught one and she gallops with the grace and beauty of a thoroughbred horse. In the summers, Raven spends a lot of her time at a cottage where she roams freely on the island. She has huge dog beds in every room, but she prefers the couch and she stretches out like she owns it. Anyone who has ever owned a Great Dane knows that they take up space and command the room with their massive presence. Raven is a big baby and she takes her stuffed animals to bed each night. She loves to be tucked in with her cozy blanket and she snores away until it is time for breakfast. Raven is living the life. She is a beautiful soul.

Hungry bull sharks gather quickly when bait bucket appears
Bull sharks are massive and powerful animals that have a reputation for aggression. They can grow to more than 3m (10 feet) in length, weighing upwards of 350kg (800lbs). They are fearsome predators that are afraid of very little. These scuba divers in Fiji have descended 25m (75 feet) beneath the surface to gather in an area inhabited by hundreds of bull sharks. They have a front row seat to a controlled feeding. These feedings are controversial and experts have differing opinions on how appropriate they are. Initially, it was seen as harmful to the animal life to interfere and change their behaviour. It cannot be denied that encouraging sharks to associate humans with food is potentially dangerous. But this situation is far more complex than it would first appear. The nearby village off the island of Fiji was struggling to survive. Large fishing operations offered a substantial and irresistible compensation for the rights to fish on the reef within their boundaries. Soon after, the fish were depleted and the health of the reef was in serious decline. The sharks were in danger of starving. These shark feedings began as a way to attract tourism dollars that would allow the village to thrive without allowing overfishing. The village is compensated generously for allowing the tours and the fisheries are not threatened. Fish populations are on the rebound and sharks have returned to the reef. It's a matter of debate whether the benefit outweighs the harm on an ethical front, but it's undeniable that the sharks and fish populations have increased as a result of this change. If something had not been done, the reef and the village would have suffered irreparable harm.

Royal blue tangs have a "battle royale" on the reef
The royal blue tang, also known as the regal blue tang is a gorgeous fish, but it's fascinating for reasons that go far beyond the beautiful colour. This fish start out as eggs, which is not unusual, but they hatch 24 hours after fertilization and begin their life in the ocean as larvae that feed on plankton. As a fish species, they are important, but not as human food. Since they eat algae that has bacteria, they can cause ciguatera poisoning if consumed. They are important as bait fish for other species, contributing to the fisheries industry and overall health of the reef. Tangs have a caudal spine that can inflict a serious wound. The spines protrude when the tang experiences stress. With a quick, sideways thrashing motion, the spines are used as a weapon. The injuries caused are prone to infection. Some tangs are believed to also be venomous. These two fish are involved in a territorial dispute or a courtship attempt. It's difficult to tell the two situations apart. The fish dart rapidly up and down and in circles as one pursues the other. Scuba divers are delighted to find these fish on the reef. They are very photogenic and visually appealing. The royal blue colour that lends them their name is extremely striking.

Titan triggerfish avoided by scuba divers for very good reason
The titan triggerfish is a true giant among the triggerfish family. It is enormous and formidable, with a set of large teeth and powerful jaws During nesting season, it can be very aggressive in the protection of its eggs. Scuba divers share stories about the titan biting through air hoses and wetsuits, inflicting serious wounds and creating dangerous situations. Unwary divers may wander into the nest area, focused on the large and colourful fish in front of them. If attacked, a diver may realize their mistake but their natural reaction might be to swim upwards away from the nest. This may result in an even more vigorous attack because the titan triggerfish defends a cone shaped territory above the nest. The correct response is to swim away horizontally until the titan loses interest and swims back to the eggs. Other fish and marine animals also have a healthy respect for the titan triggerfish. They steer clear whenever possible. As this large beast rips chunks of coral off the reef, the smaller fish try to get at the debris and smaller animals that are uncovered. But the triggerfish snaps and postures, reminding the fish that they are not welcome around the titan’s food. Titan triggerfish dine on sea urchins, mollusks, and coral. They are capable of break off large chunks of coral in the process. The titan triggerfish grows to a length of 75cm. It’s a hefty fish that is well deserving of the name “titan”.

Dog dreams of chasing deer he saw during afternoon walk
Murphy is a wonderful dog who would love to make friends with everybody, including the neighbourhood deer. When the herd crosses the path in front of him when he is out for his afternoon walk, he whines and pulls frantically at the leash to chase them. He can barely contain his excitement as he watches them run past and he sniffs eagerly at the ground where they just set foot. After the walk is over, old Murphy likes a good nap. But as we can see from his twitching toes and legs, the excitement is far from over for Murphy as he snoozes. He must be dreaming of the deer and galloping after them. It's tempting to wake him up but a good boy like Murphy deserves every moment of joy that life can bring. His family lets him sleep undisturbed so he can enjoy it all. Murphy is a lucky dog. He belonged to a serviceman in the U.S. military and he was dearly loved and well treated. But when his owner was deployed overseas, he placed Murphy in a caring home. Murphy was somehow not the right fit for this family in the long term, and he eventually found his way to a rescue facility. It was here that he waited a very short time before being discovered by a retired gentleman from North Carolina. These two bonded and became the best of friends. Murphy moved to Tennessee a few years later and it is here that he walks the neighbourhood, meeting his doggy friends and seeing the deer run past. Murphy's days are spent on meandering walks through the forest, chasing a ball in the back yard, sleeping by the fire and getting petted whenever he wants. Murphy really does live the good life, as every dog should.

Cheeky monkey makes itself at home on woman's head
Monkeys are one of the most amusing and fascinating animals. Perhaps their faces, or their behaviours remind us of ourselves. They have an uncanny resemblance to humans that strikes a chord with us. This monkey lives in Ubud Monkey Forest in Bali, Indonesia. It's a sanctuary where the monkey troop roams freely, enjoying a very natural life in many ways. Tourists are welcome to wander the paths of the forest and watch the monkeys. Occasionally, the monkeys take a serious interest in the tourists. This lucky visitor was taking a break from the walking and she took a seat on a wall. The cheeky monkey was quick to run out of the trees and climb up on her shoulder. It was hard to decide if the little fellow was looking for an opportunity to groom her hair, or hoping for a treat out of her pocket. This sanctuary guest was thrilled to have such an encounter with such a friendly little monkey. Although these animals are still wild, they are well acquainted with people visiting and they can be trusted enough to allow such an interaction. Guides wander the paths as well and they keep a close eye the animals to make sure that everything remains friendly. Visitors are able to see monkeys close up here. The monkey troop thrives in a sanctuary that is protected and funded by tourism, and the village itself profits from the tourism funds that the forest brings. This is a win for all concerned. And it was a huge win for this Canadian guest who described this as a bucket list item for her.

Bizarre alien-like animal wanders sea floor by night
This strange looking creature is an animal that lives on the ocean floor at various depths. It belongs to a group of animals that is one of the most numerous of the ocean animals, and also one of the most vital. It is a sea cucumber, commonly known as a worm sea cucumber. Although they come in different shapes and sizes, se cucumbers are similar in many ways. They move slowly or remain stationary on the ocean bottom as they filter debris and waste from the water and the sediment. They digest and process large volumes of debris over their lifetime, making the ocean cleaner and keeping it free from harmful bacteria that would overpopulate among the waste if they did not do their jobs. Simple organisms, they possess no true brain. Their sensory ability and locomotion is controlled by a ring neural tissue. They generally have a sensitivity to light and to touch due to the scattering of nerve tissue along the outer surfaces. They move over the ocean bottom consuming the organic matter that has settled. Some of them feed the organic matter into their mouths using feathery appendages that draw in food toward the centrally located mouth. This sea cumber measured approximately 2m (6 feet) in length, with a girth roughly equivalent to a large English cucumber. It was making its way along in the dark of night when it was seen by a scuba diver who was using lights to illuminate the reef as his group explored and recorded the nocturnal activity. The ocean is a completely different world by night. Different animals become active under the cover of darkness, hunting by using their keen senses to locate prey that is less able to see them coming. As the sun sinks beneath the horizon, many animals seek shelter, hiding among the coral and rocks. The animals that emerge from hiding are strange and fascinating. They move easily in the darkness, gathering food and avoiding becoming food. For scuba divers, exploring the darkness is intimidating and enthralling at the same time. It is a world of eerie silence and great beauty at the same time.
