I'm picking #kattwilliams as my 7th Best Living Comedian. Katt Williams is one of the finest examples of a professional who can build funny. He's on the list for our metrics: Longevity, adaptability, not being a dick. A mitigating factor might be how specialized he has been but that has been changing as he's winning with more diverse audiences and demos. He's not actually funny off-stage and even more impressive is that he is mentally insane. I'm not sure you feel what I'm saying here but that's a compliment to his standup comedy skills. Micah Williams walks around, if anything, in a kind of slow, relaxed and sometimes slouching manner, rarely using much body-language or gestures. Katt Williams is one of the greatest physical comedians working today. You still don't get what I'm saying here, this is a huge compliment to the craftsmanship and professionalism of this goddamn American hero. vs I have to tack a 'bad example' but due to advice on 'Anger Management' I went with a fairly neutral complaint about this sort of clump of comedians who all seem the same to me. Like if seven brothers opened their own comedy restaurant I feel like it would look like them, same thing. All of them are Jews (not that there's anything wrong with that) but all of them are rockin, UFC fighting, heavy-metal tattoo heroes who are in gangs and also beat people up and also do crazy drugs and party and are also smarter than anyone. The 8th Greatest Living Standup Comedian is Eddie Murphy. Keeping in mind our Holistic Metrics: Longevity, versatility, quality ratio and he could be higher on the list if not for a few too many absent years. I was looking for a bad comedian to juxtapose and fell into the quagmire that is Big Jay Oakerson from Legions of Podcasts and his plodding 'nothingness' standup comedy. I'm sure he's a good guy and all but he needs to stop doing comedy anymore. Become a podcast producer behind the scenes. Murphy has a stunning IMDB and 'Dolemite' and 'Dreamgirls' are proof Eddie Murphy can do high quality stuff. Louie Anderson is Number 9 on my list of The Top 10 Greatest Living Comedians when I started making this video. Turns out he died! I did forget to deduct the mitigating factor of his grotesque fatThin visage but even still he made it to my list. (pretend he's still alive while you watch). Then things go horribly wrong. In an effort to give a kind of 'opposite' weaker comedian for comparison I happened upon this Fake Comedian 'Andrew Shulz'. Not 'Shultz' so even his name is effing annoying. A bit of rage ensues at the end. Louie Anderson might be one of the most underrated standup comedians i the world today (pssst.. okay he died) and I've never really grabbed up why other than: He started young, early and was an almost instant success back in the day when they really made a comedy club around him and for him (and a close knit gang of standup pals). Add to that he is THE example of a young comedian absolutely blowing the doors off a 1st appearance on The Johnny Carson Show. Louie Anderson has a VERY impressive standup career where he's done really every venue and audience. Was he TOO GOOD to be heralded as great by the larger standup world? It's said he was always able to pick and choose what he liked. Even as a young still-climbing comic he'd pleasantly decline offers to work at jobs many other comedians might see as 'Doing your grind' and 'workin your way up' and all that. Anderson has a very impressive IMDB and he's on the list for longevity, breadth and width of career, for a stunning variety of comedy, from kid's shows to rather dark and disturbing shows around alcoholism and dysfunctional family heritage. He also did 'sweet' things. This has led some to mistakenly believe Louie Anderson was a kind of safe, family-friendly, mainstream product. Wrong. I mean, he could do that but he could also do adult-themes, black comedy.
