Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer - Inter chief, Beppe Marotta confirms.
Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer - Inter chief, Beppe Marotta confirms.
Inter Milan chief Beppe Marotta has confirmed Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer despite claims the Belgian striker wants to make his loan deal permanent at the Italian club.
The 29-year-old rejoined Inter on loan last summer after enduring a miserable first season back at Stamford Bridge despite returning for a club-record £97.5million.
His loan return to Inter has been marred by injury this season, with the Belgian making only 14 appearances so far.
'Lukaku to stay also next year? It's too early to decide, he will return to Chelsea and we will see what's next,' Marotta told Sky. 'Lukaku wants to stay at Inter, for sure — we know Romelu's intention and so we will see if we can negotiate his return here.'
It comes after the CEO appeared to hint that Lukaku was overweight in a pre-match interview.
'I have to say he has 103kg to carry around, so he needs to be in perfect physical shape to deliver and he is not there yet,' Marotta had told Sky Sport Italia and Amazon Prime Italia pre-match.
'He's getting there and the coach is the best person to evaluate how he is doing and how he should be used.
'Games tend to last almost 100 minutes nowadays, so the players who come off the bench can be just as important as what I like to call their co-starters.
'Unfortunately, another problem with this anomalous season is the World Cup, which was midway through the first half of the campaign.
'I can see that participation in the World Cup affected many players, some feel it more than others, and Lukaku had an injury that meant he was reduced to practically a cameo at that tournament.'
Lukaku scored his side's winner in their 1-0 victory over FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at the San Siro.

Nigerian military ruler was acting like he owned the country and God removed him - Pastor Adeboye
Years ago a Nigerian military ruler was acting like he owned the country, when his cup became full God removed him permanently - Pastor Adeboye writes after 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has shared a post addressed to Nigerians after last Saturday, February 25, presidential and national assembly elections.
Pastor Adeboye who listed Bible verses to demonstrate how God is greater than worldly leaders, recalled how a Nigerian military ruler felt he owned the country and went about killing people as he pleased. He further disclosed that when this military ruler's cup became full, God removed him permanently.
The RCCG General Overseer also told those in leadership positions not to allow it get to their heads as God is the one in-charge.
He wrote;
There are many great leaders in this world. However, there is Someone called the Most High, the Almighty (Psalm 91:1). He is higher than the highest (Ecclesiastes 5:8). Isaiah 66:1 says heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool. According to Revelation 19:16, He is the King of kings. Put in modern terms, He is the President of all the presidents in the world.
The Most High God rules in the affairs of men (Daniel 4:25). In Daniel 4:34-35, the king of the country considered as the superpower in the world at that time confessed that the dominion of the Most High is forever.
Thus, once in a while, when one earthly leader or the other is beginning to feel big and in control, God teaches the fellow a lesson and shows the whole world that He is still in control. God demonstrated through the Coronavirus pandemic that despite the sophistication of the leaders of the world, they are powerless without Him and so they must surrender to His Lordship.
Proverbs 21:1 says He is the one who controls the heart of kings like rivers of water. When an earthly king is beginning to prove stubborn and refuses to bow to His Lordship, He can deal with the fellow in one of two ways. The first is by shifting something in the king’s brain so that he would begin to act like an animal. After a while, when he has learnt his lesson and really seen who is in charge, God would then restore his sound mind and He may even restore his throne too.
This is what happened to Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4:30-37. The second way that the Most High can deal with such a king is to harden his heart and then destroy him, using him as an example to the whole world that He is still sovereign. This is what happened to Pharaoh in Exodus 15:4-6.
Something similar happened in Nigeria a few years ago when a military head of state was acting as if he owned the country, killing people and doing as he pleased. When his cup became full, God removed him permanently.
If you find yourself in a leadership position, don’t let it get into your head; always remember God is the one truly in charge.
God is still ruling in the affairs of men and His dominion is forever.

20 thugs arrested for election violence in Lagos.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, says over 20 political thugs have been arrested in connection with cases of electoral violence and ballot box snatching recorded in parts of the state during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Hundeyin disclosed this in an interview with Channels TV. He mentioned that the police responded to hundreds of distressed calls across the 13,325 polling units in Lagos.
He described the incidents at Okota, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Elegushi, and other areas of the state as “a clear case of political thuggery”. Hundeyin confirmed that “political thugs came in and disrupted the process, in a particular instance, set the ballot box and the ballot papers on fire”.
“We had issues in Surulere, we had issues in Oshodi, we also had issues in Oke-Afa. We are still collating. So far, we have over 20 political thugs arrested and we also have over 10 polling units where these issues occurred,” he said
He said the police already prepared for some polling units where challenges were anticipated but “the control room was very busy yesterday (Saturday).”
“It wasn’t like armed men were not there; they were there but we kept moving men around as the need arose. We have 13,325 polling units in Lagos State. We had distress calls in hundreds of them and we responded swiftly and restored the sanctity of the elections. Unfortunately, people don’t want to talk about it because they feel the police are doing their job. So, less than 50 where we had issues is what everybody is talking about which is okay because that is the news. We had many instances where armed men responded on time. We have one or two in Mafoluku” he said
