Surf fishing the Homer, Alaska Spit. #31
I decided to make a "mortal kombat" game style video this time around lol. anyways...
This time we head out for memorial weekend to a favorite town of ours, Homer, Alaska. Here we throw our hooks in the water at lands end to see just what kind of fish we could pull back in. as surf fishing becomes more popular in Alaska its important to take notice of the tides and properties that popular spots often end up by. and always check the regulations before you cast out. Keep your hooks wet fish heads!

Hidden Family King Fishing Spot! (time laps) 🤫🎣👑 #29
Iv intentionally left out the name of this location in the description. I've made it fairly easy to figure out from the video but you gotta work for it a little haha. Its a very popular spot and well worth the work to find. We cant just give away the spots now can we?! Many have seen this place as a way to get away from the city and still enjoy king fishing and ill show you how to find it but there is a catch! 1- its limited space. 2- timing them kings is hard for when they will show up. 3rd and lastly, This Location like the rest is to be treated with respect. Clean up your trash, do not wreck the flora, and be alert for wild life. many many many moose and bear trek through here. If you would like to fish a more secluded fishing spot out of town like this beautiful place stay tuned!

SNAGGIN SEWARD SALMON! #28
SNAGGING IN SEWARD vs flossing…
In this video I set out to try and clear up the difference between “Flossing” and “Snagging” fish. It has been a long, long debate amongst anglers and id like to (SHOW) the difference and hopefully change some people’s opinion. We can never please everyone, but this is our 2 cents on the topic.
Now to start off Snagging is legal here, in June, in Seward, for sockeye and kings because they are hatchery and it’s a saltwater area. so, every year 1000s of people head to the Seward beaches and lagoons to fill their coolers.
Snagging requiring very little skill to achieve a catch also requires very little gear such as
-an ugly stick
-a box of weighted treble hooks
-waders
-perhaps a sled or cart
-and standard carryon tools
To my knowledge the catch limit is 6 per day 6 in possession. If the fishing is good. Sometimes Fish n game will bump the limit up to 9-12 per day! Talk about a lot of fish! The best time iv seen is going at low tide, but you can still catch them in high tide as you will see in this video. If you want the most success id just camp overnight but if you’re on a day trip adventure, there free parking a ways little past the campground on Nash road. While you’re there you might even get lucky to see some seals chasing the sockeye in. after you’ve had your fill of snagging you can head back out towards bear creek where you can see all the 1000s of fish the got past all the hooks in the water. Its quite a sight! Maybe even actually see a bear! But be safe.
Seward is a great little town with a lot to offer far as fishing goes and some day soon ill be making another video perhaps down at millers landing or a charter. Who knows!?

SURF FISHING FOR HAILBUT BEACH CHICKENS! 🏄♂️🎣😃 #27
As Some of you know we like to fish for anything and everything, anywhere. That being said, we do a lot of traveling and experimenting. Trying different styles and gear. So, this time we wanted to try Surf fishing for halibut. And ill be honest. We were just winging it based on the info we gathered. We didn’t catch much the 2days we were there and there was a lot of trial and error here. BUT! We did have an interesting time. We learned a lot and enjoyed the company of, Thor, who’s just full of good surf fishing advice.
Info Basics:
*You need a 4x4 to get on step while driving the beach.
*12-14ft poll. You gotta get that bait out.
*Get that bait nice and cured and wrap it with magic thread that way the fish can’t take it off. The gotta swallow it to get it.
*Dress warm. That wind cuts hard.
*2 halibut a day any size.
*Only 1 line a person.
*Bring something to keep yourself busy. You might wait awhile between hook ups.
*location: Kenai Soldotna Cohoe
*Time of year: mid May

EAGLE WATCHING & ICE FISHING @ KNIK LAKE #25
The weather is finally starting to warm up a bit and it appears spring might be coming soon! ...and we decided we really needed to get out of the house. Sometimes in Alaska winter can make you a little stir crazy, especially if you are a more of a summer person... as we are. So we plan a trip on the fly to go Ice fish a lake we haven't yet (Knik lake) where we meet up with Ryan and his Son Troy. so we fished... and... Nothing in there far as we saw to write home about but still fun to get out of the house. You wont catch any trophy fish in here but its a great place to take the family. Just please be respectful for to the people that live around here and use the public park on the hill instead of the road way below.
See you on the next trip folks!

HOW TO FLOSS FOR SALMON ( Drift & flip ) #23
This time round Bill & I decide, “lets hit the Russian River one last time this season.” While there we thought it would be a good idea to try and teach people the “flossing technique”. Some people would confuse with for “snagging” IT’S NOT! Snagging is not only illegal in most areas of the state, for the majority of the year, but it also takes ZERO SKILLS to do… just a heavy hook and water flogging… NO, “Flossing” requires a great deal of skill & practice and a great deal of patience, If you’re new. With this technique you’re more likely to fair hook your fish so you don’t have to return them potentially harmed and damaged. We encourage you to learn this skill as you will spend more time fighting fish and less time fighting snags and not filling your freezers.
-P.S.A.-
Also. We have started noticing as the tourism returns to our state some popular fishing spots have collected some garbage. So please be courteous and take your trash with you. It uglies up Alaska’s beauty and attracts wildlife. In addition, many fishing spots have used fishing line and tackle dispensers nearby. So, If ya see some, be a pal and pick it up. Thank you.

FISHING THE BORE TIDE @ Bird Creek, Alaska ...pinks... #22
In this video we give you some a realistic expectations of fishing Bird Creek in August.
Here we are again bored and needing to get out of the house. Haha. So, we set out to catch Silvers on spinners but there were JUST, TOO, MANY PINKS…! Not a very desirable fish to eat as they turn rather fast when hitting the fresh water. Silvers on the other hand aka Coho, are very good eating and stay fresh for a while. Sadly, we just couldn’t get our hooks below them damn Pinks. Nevertheless we had fun killing time and laughing at each other.
SUGGESTIONS: Spinner and pixie tackle work great but for this location You may have much better luck drifting eggs on bobbers. Them silvers are in there. Just gotta coax them out!
Also, we like to support our locals and one of our favorite tackle brands Kodiak Custom Tackle. They are a fun crew that make killer gear. Everything seems to bite on their hooks. Link below.

Again, we love supporting local Alaskan Businesses. Have you ever taken one of the Alaskan Railroad tours? No? Well, you should! You will get to view Alaska from a perspective many don’t, in luxury I might add. So put it on your buckle list next visit! Link listed below.

DIP NETTING FOR SALMON @ KENAI BEACH (Time lapse) #21
Dip netting in Alaska is a unique event as only locals are allowed to do it. people from all over the state come down to the Kenai to stress their nets and fill their freezers. This trip was particularly calm since we came down at the beginning of the run. During peak netting times this beach is a packed madhouse from all the people, gals, and fish coolers. This event takes place in many other streams and rivers but this is the area made famous. If you're a local I strongly recommend the following.
1- a 3 man crew minimum. its a lot of beach to carry everything across.
2- 4wheeler if you can afford it. if not a wagon with big wheels.
3- a big cooler or 2.
4- lots of patients. You will be getting some exercise here...

ANGRY PIKE FISHING @ BIG LAKE, ALASKA. #20
For many trips now it would seem that all we do is fish the rivers for salmon. Well we decided it was time to switch things up for a moment. So we set out to fish a lake we don't spend much time at and go after a fish we haven't tried hooking before, PIKE. It took us a little bit of work and searching but we finally found where some of there little predators were hiding In the tall grass. Not bad for our 1st attempt. Next time we return to Big lake we will likely seek out some big Char & rainbows! and If you have any good tips for fishing big lake, leave a comment so we can learn and teach others.

FISHING KING SALMON OUT OF THE KNIK RIVER GLACIER WATER! #18
KNIK KINGS
On this episode of Fishin Alaska the Boys head out on the Knik River, north of the towns, Anchorage & Eagle River to break in the newly acquired Boat to see if they can catch one of the mighty Chinook Salmon aka the “King” out of that cool glacier water.
King Salmon in Alaska is limited to 1 day with variations of the type of tackle & bait you are allowed to use per location. The most commonly fished locations for kings are the Knik, Ship Creek in Anchorage, the Kenai peninsula & the Seward culverts. The mighty King Species once produce quite large & immensely powerful fish, sometimes reaching over 80lbs. Which is considered a trophy btw. Now if you seek to catch such a beast you will need a sea fairing boat, and still, some luck. Because the species has been in decline, we strongly urge people to follow the regulations, consider returning the big breeders back to the waters & respect our state’s belief in properly handling these beautiful creatures.

DIP NETTING 20 MILE RIVER FOR HOOLIGAN FISH -Catch & cook on the beach. #17
Here we are at the end of May with Summer on its way! This season I wanted to try something new. Every year we head south for our annual fishing trips we pass by this location watching tons of dip netters out sweeping the water for Hooligan. They often show up just before the Kings so I figured lets go catch some of these candle fish and see what its alllll about!
{Info} Hooligan is a small species of fish found in the pacific northwest to Alaska. Many Alaskan fishermen that go Halibut & Rock fish fishing use them as frozen bait. Some people enjoy cooking & smoking them as well. Bit of a tedious project in my opinion but they taste pretty good, if properly prepped and brine. Not to mention they are super easy to catch as there is no limit because of their numbers strength and you are allowed to use a net. For more specifics on where and how to catch hooligan go to https://www.alaskaoutdoorssupersite.com/the-hooligan-page as they are very helpful and provide excellent information.

TONS OF HOOLIGAN in Seward, Alaska ! (3rd week of may) #13
HOOLIGAN aka (the candle fish) because of how oily they are.
So last year we took an early trip down to Seward Alaska to do some king Snagging. Don’t feel confused. Snagging is legal in all saltwater, as long as it's not specifically prohibited. Turned out we had gotten there just a few days before the kings came in so we ended up just filming tons of Hooligan.
Hooligan is a small species of fish found in the pacific northwest to Alaska. Many Alaskan fishermen that go Halibut & Rock fish fishing use them as frozen bait. Some people enjoy cooking & smoking them as well. Bit of a tedious project in my opinion but they taste pretty good if properly prepped and brine.
