Philip purchased the farm that we now call Kowalski Mountain in 2016. He dreamed of a place where he could hunt, farm, work the land, and build a home he was proud of. In 2018, Philip met Barbra-Sue and together they began to put in the needed infrastructure to move to the farm full-time over 700 miles away from our home in Florida. Kowalski Mountain has been built on what we call Workcations. It was like a vacation, we were working to build our farm instead. With a goal of making our big move debt-free, we spent years paying off the property and other personal responsibilities to make Philip's dream a reality. For five years our off-grid RV has been at the bottom of the hill in the valley of our homestead. Those years provided a "trial run" that revealed the disadvantages of the creek-side location of our homestead RV. The completion of the driveway has finally made it possible to move our RV to the top of the hill. However, after the loss of our only truck capable of pulling the 14,000-pound RV, we searched for a local driver to help us relocate it. Camren Powell and Trever Day agreed to the job! The narrow creek crossing and the loose gravel on the new driveway make the incline a challenge, but Camren and Trever expertly haul and park our RV on the new RV pad at the crest of the hill on Kowalski Mountain. Philip purchased the farm that we now call Kowalski Mountain in 2016. He dreamed of a place where he could hunt, farm, work the land, and build a home he was proud of. In 2018, Philip met Barbra-Sue and together they began to put in the needed infrastructure to move to the farm full-time over 700 miles away from our home in Florida. Kowalski Mountain has been built on what we call Workcations. It's like a vacation, but instead, we were working to build our farm. With a goal of making our big move debt-free, we spent years paying off the property and other personal responsibilities to make Philip's dream a reality. Finally, 7 years after Philip purchased the first piece of Kowalski Mountain we are making our big move to the homestead. This my friends, is our LAST Workcation. Varroa mites are one of the greatest threats to healthy honeybee colonies. Beekeepers monitor infestation and treat honeybee colonies as part of routine apiary management. This year we are treating our apiary with Apiguard. We rotate treatment methods to help prevent the mites from building up resistance to any one treatment. For years I have suffered from the agony of being eaten by turkey mites on the homestead in Kentucky. Turkey mites are the larval form of Lone Star Ticks. This year I planned ahead to fight back to protect myself! Months ago I blended two different essential oil blends for my homemade soap designed to repel ticks. As the garlic harvest approached I was super excited about the garlic bounty I was expecting! However, we live 700 miles away from the homestead so we "garden on grace". We plant seeds and hope for the best! Unfortunately this time, the gamble didn't pay off! We made multiple trips to the homestead prior to the garlic harvest and it was looking amazing!
