Along with making more custom mounts for the side steps and bumpers, my friend Joe will be making custom frame horns so we can mount the front bumper as if it came from the factory. In the midst of all of this, I'll also be lowering the suspension by 4" in front and 6" in the rear. It's mainly to counteract the height difference created when using a square body frame with the earlier body, but it'll also give it a slightly better stance than a factory C10. At the end of the day, we still want it to look like a proper truck, but have a slight modern twist to it! As I've mentioned in prior videos, this is going to be a unique build that's going to utilize mostly factory GM parts when it comes to the chassis, powertrain and driveline. The goal is to build a truck that's easily serviceable, reliable, fun to drive and comfortable to drive on a daily basis. The core of this build will start by taking two old GM vehicles that were destined for the scrap yard and repurpose as much of them as possible to limit cost and give the '62 a significant dose of modernizing. Before diving back into the chassis and body fabrication, I'm going to get the donor powertrain from our '04 Escalade parts truck and the brake system loosely in place. While the LS swap is relatively easy with the '74 C10 donor frame we're using, transferring the Escalade's Hydroboost brake system was another story. You all will get an in depth look at how I figured out what's what! As I've mentioned in prior videos, this is going to be a unique build that's going to utilize mostly factory GM parts when it comes to the chassis, powertrain and driveline. My idea basically involved creating a setup that filled the entire back of the cab behind the seat. So much needed to be done from wiring to fabrication and of course subwoofer installation. To finish everything off, the back area was trimmed in a way that everything would flow together and look shockingly factory! I'll be taking you all on a deep dive into what it took to get this done! Unfortunately, I'll have to save the demo for when the rest of the system gets finished, but we're off to a great start. There won't be another setup like this!! It'll basically involve taking three trucks to create one sweet restomod. We want this build to be creative, yet cost effective to maximize what we can repurpose and save so that we can put the money where it matters the most. We want to build the GMC to where it's as comfortable as a daily driver as it would be on a long trip.
