Siege At Yorktown - Redoubts Attack Anniversary
The October 14, 1781.
The anniversary of the storming of two key British forts by Allied forces. These two forts are all that stood in the way between completion of the second parallel line to the York.
The attack on Redoubt 10 was handled by American forces, led by Alexander Hamilton and Pot. The attack on Redoubt 9 by French forces., led by Vicomte de Viomenil.
A combined 800 men, 400 French, 400 American, emerged from their position in the first parallel siege line to launch a daring attack on the two forts with nothing more than their bayonets! The troops were forbidden to load their muskets for fear that a stray shot could jeopardize the mission.

Sige At Yorktown - Redoubt 10 - Short
“The fort’s our own!”
“Rush on boys!”
A surprise attack taking place on a moonless night. This time was different….the rules had changed. A silent march with unloaded muskets...bayonets fixed and at the ready. Insane? Maybe so. But this mission was too important to risk giving away the true objectives. It must remain veiled – complete and total secrecy with just a pinch of misdirection. Any unnecessary risks had to be eliminated – the rest mitigated. Flashes from musket fire would let the enemy in on the location of the attack. Thus, it was eliminated.
The men selected for this assignment know the gravity of this moment. Many believe, and rightfully so, that this is somewhat akin to a suicide mission. As they wait patiently from their spots inside the trenches of the first set of parallels, they keep a watchful eye – looking for the signal that will get this mission underway. Many believe this will be their final journey in life. But they are ready to risk it all to take the objective, complete the mission – even if it means their ultimate sacrifice in order to attain freedom and independence from the Crown.
