👩‍🦱 What I use to wash my hair is rhassoul clay. What is rhassoul clay? Rhassoul clay is a natural clay powder. You'll often see it in clay mask recipes for your skin, but it also works wonders for the hair. And it's been used for probably thousands of years in eastern parts of the world. It typically comes from Morocco, so we see a lot of Moroccan women using this to care for their hair. Rhassoul clay cleans the hair extremely effectively. Even when I have done an oil treatment the night before washing my hair, the rhassoul clay is able to get it all out, no problem, while leaving my hair feeling moisturized and my curls defined. And the other really cool thing about rhassoul clay for growing long hair is it actually helps to strengthen the hair shaft all the way down, which helps to prevent your hair from breaking as opposed to using just conventional cleanser. 🪡🧵 I am a big believer in starting a new hobby with something that truly excites you. Like it truly just lights your fire and gets you all excited and passionate, even if it's not a project that would typically be considered beginner friendly. That being said, here comes in the realism part. So let's just use a corset as an example. Let's say that you're really excited about making yourself a custom made corset. Well, you can do that. Absolutely. Dive in and go for that. But I would recommend choosing a more simple design of corset. For example, my first two corsets were very basic and utilitarian. They were both underbust corsets, which made them a lot easier to pattern and fit. Being able to complete those first corsets, which were very simple, gave me the morale boost that I needed to eventually go on my path of making more complex Victorian corsets, corded corsets, complex embroidery and flossing and lace and that kind of thing. 👩🏻‍🦱 What is the best way to detangle your hair? I recommend dry finger detangling hair. This is because it minimizes the risk of breakage, especially for curly hair, because curly hair can have so many tangles built up that if you just start ripping through your hair with a comb while it's wet, even if you have conditioner in it, it can cause a lot of damage to your hair. Hair is much more likely to snap and break off when it's wet. So while I do recommend dry finger detangling, that doesn't mean that you can't use other aids to detangle your hair, such as oils or butters. There's all manner of different oils you can use. If your hair is on the drier or coarser side, you can use something a little heavier like castor oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. But if you think your hair can't stand that much oil and it will be weighed down, then use something lighter like jojoba oil or argan oil. I always recommend doing some kind of pre-wash treatment for all hair types the night before you're planning to wash your hair, or at least several hours before. It's just going to differ exactly what type of treatment you do for different textures of hair. So for curly hair, I recommend doing an oil treatment for your scalp and for your hair length before you wash it. For your scalp, this should be some sort of oil treatment that's going to promote thicker growth and promote a healthier scalp. That time I made Downton Abbey inspired footwear - from an idea to finished, wearable shoes! 😍 As a mom of five, I'm often asked how I make time for my art and what I put out into the world. The truth is that motherhood has, if anything, fuelled my creative flame and distilled my goals. Before becoming a mother, I was a classic oil painter, and I loved it. However, the sheer lack of outside responsibilities at that time in my life meant that I burnt out quite quickly, actually. Now that I have small children and so many demands on my time, it has 1) forced me to become more disciplined and made creative burn out practically impossible since it is now an outlet, "me time". 2) Motherhood, has, at least for this season of life, changed the direction of my art from paintings to 'practical', wearable art.
