Let's taste the Muga Reserva 2018! 😍🍷
The rolling vineyards of the Rioja wine region, represent the most important wine region of Spain. Famous for its Tempranillo-based wines, Rioja offers a diverse selection of wines from juicy young wines to deeply complex, oak-aged “reservas” and “grand reservas”.
Today we are tasting a Reserva wine from the Muga winery. A bastion of tradition and craftsmanship in the Rioja region, with a rich family legacy spanning almost a century.
**The color of the wine is a medium-deep red. The nose is rich with aromas of plum, blackberry, slight characteristics of dried fruits, and vanilla. The palate is fresh and light, with a nice touch of oak. Actually, Muga is one of the few wineries in Spain with its own Cooparage. So they can craft their barrels to perfectly suit their wines.**
All in all a nice wine. I think it still needs some time in the bottle. I would rate this 88 points. Have you ever tried Muga wines before? Tell me your experiences in the comments.

Let's taste the Pere Ventura Cava! 🍾🇪🇸
🥂 Cava is Spain's Flagship sparkling wine style like Champagne is for France or Prosecco for Italy.
🌍 It originates from the region of Catalonia and it is made in the same Traditional method as Champagne. Meaning that the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle. Although it is made with different local grape varieties like Macabeo, Xarel and Parellada.
🌱 These local grape varieties, the unique climate, and the soils make it different compared to champagne.
🍐 The @pereventuracava is a nice example with fine bubbles, and typical aromas of pear, apples and lime. It is a simple easy drinking wine. I would rate this 85 points. What is your favorite Cava?

Anthocyanins in Wine 🍇🧪
🧪Anthocyanins are phenolic compounds responsible for the vibrant red color in wine. They are also present in a variety of fruits, such as blueberries, black crowberries, black beans, purple corn, and of course grapes. Generally, all black grapes contain their color pigments in the first cell layers of their skin, though there are a few exceptions, such as the tentorial varieties like Alicante Bouschet, which has anthocyanin even in its pulp.
🍷The color of anthocyanin varies depending on the acidity of the wine. At a lower pH level, it produces a bright red hue, while a higher pH can result in a blueish-purple color. When red wines are aged for longer periods, the anthocyanins react with other compounds in the wine, resulting in a brick-red color. They also increase the antioxidant capacity, which determines the aging potential of a wine. To learn more about this fascinating process, check out this video.

Carmenère Explained 🍷🇨🇱
🍇 Carmenere, as rich as its wines, originated in Bordeaux. As a Cabernet Franc offspring, it's a sibling to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
🔥 When the phylloxera plague hit Bordeaux, Carmenere was wiped out completely, disappearing for a century.
⭐️ However, in 1994, DNA research concluded that the vine cuttings brought from Bordeaux to Chile in the 18th century, believed to be 'Merlot,' were actually Carmenere, thus, this mistake saved the variety.
🇨🇱 Today, Carmenere is the flagship wine of Chile, which accounts for 96% of the global production.
🫑 Carmenere wines often feature a rich taste, characterized by ripe dark fruits such as blackberry, black cherry, plum, and notes of green bell pepper which is the signature of the variety.
🙋🏻♂️ What are your thoughts on Carmenere? Let’s discuss it in the comments.

Required conditions for Noble Rot? 🍯🍇
Why do some grapes go through noble rot and produce fantastic nectar-like sweet wines but others just rot and go bad?
Well, there are multiple very specific conditions that have to meet to achieve noble rot, this is why it is so limited.
First, we need misty and wet mornings for the spores of the Botrytis Cinerea fungi to germinate.
Second, we need warm and dry afternoons. If the afternoons are not dry enough it can turn into gray rot and destroy the whole production.
Third, thicker-skinned grape varieties are more likely to go through noble rot, without deteriorating.
Fourth. We also need a reasonably high acidity that can balance the sugar level of the concentrated grapes.
And lastly, we need prudent viticultural practices to harvest these precious grapes.
There are only a handful of places on Earth that have all of the infinity stones, Like Tokaj, Hungary, or Sauternes France. Both are placed between the intersection of two rivers, both close to the 45th parallel and both use similar grape varieties susceptible to Noble Rot.

The Oldest Bottle of Wine in the World!!! 🤯🌍
The Oldest Bottle of Wine in the World!!! 🤯🌍
🗓️ Dated to 350 AD, making it almost 1700 years old!
🇩🇪It was found near the town of Speyer in Germany, in a Roman Nobleman's tomb. The tomb contained multiple bottles but only one was still holding liquid.
👨🏻🔬 Scientists concluded that olive oil was added to the bottle to separate the wine from the air, and it was sealed with hot wax.
🏛️ Since its discovery, it has been exhibited in Speyers Wine Museum.

The Story of the Tokay Pinot Gris 🥂🍯
🇭🇺 In the rolling hills of Hungary, we find the legendary Tokaj wine region. Its fame began to ripple across the world during the Middle Ages. And soon, its lusciously sweet wines became the golden standard. Louis XIV famously called it, “the wine of kings and the king of wines”.
😏 Yet, with fame comes controversy. The success of Tokaj wine invited envious glances from across the globe. In a bid to profit from Tokaj's star, several regions started producing dubious versions of the beloved wine.
🏔️ However, the trickiest appropriation came from France's Alsace region. Alsace winemakers renamed their Pinot Gris wines as 'Tokay Pinot Gris.'
🇪🇺 But truth prevails. After years of negotiation, in 2007 the EU prohibited the usage of the 'Tokay' name. Thus, the 'Tokay Pinot Gris' labels became a thing of the past and have since become collectibles.
💰 So, if by chance you have a bottle of this mislabeled rarity, you might want to hold onto it.
