Duelist's Den Update Oct 2023
This video finds me back shooting at Duelist’s Den for the first time in eight months.
We haven’t won the final battle yet, but my legal team won a stay on the Zoning Board’s decision until we get a final adjudication on our suit.

44 40 The first universal cartridge
Today’s video is about the .44-40 cartridge.
The .44-40 started out as the proprietary .44 Winchester Centerfire (.44 WCF) in 1873, but by the end of the 19th century it was America’s universal cartridge. Every major gun maker chambered their rifles and revolvers to take this iconic round.

The Walker Revolver The True Story of Sam Colt's Come Back
An entire mythology has grown up around the development of Colt’s Walker revolver, and about Colt’s triumphant return to firearms manufacturing.
The story, as it is usually told, is more legend than truth.
In this video, I’ll try to uncover the real story of the Walker revolver.

Colt 1862 Police Model Revolver
The Colt 1862 Police revolver was the final gun produced in Colt’s cap and ball new line of streamlined revolvers.
It was a five-shot, .36 caliber revolver built on the ,31 caliber, Model 1849 frame, to produce a reasonably powerful, but compact carry gun.
In this video we’ll shoot my 162-year-old Colt Police revolver.

Uberti 1860 Army Revolver Made in 2023 YouTube Acceptable Video
In this video I’ll be checking out a newly manufactured Uberti 1860 Army revolver.
I’ll be comparing this gun that was built in 2023 to the same model made 25 years earlier in 1998 to see if Uberti’s quality has changed in 25 years.
Then will take it out to the range.
I made some modifications that allowed paper cartridges to be easily loaded in the Uberti 1860 revolver. I also made some other modifications that improved the function and reliability of this gun.
Unfortunately, YouTube considers gun modifications to be evil, and I don’t want the video taken down.
So, if you want to see these mods, you can watch the full version of this video on Rumble.

Kempton Gunmakers Fair 2023
The last weekend in July is the traditional date for the Kempton, Pennsylvania Gunmakers Fair. This is a flintlock gun show, but it is a lot more than that. It is a learning experience.
And it is a whole lot of fun.
In this video, we’ll explore the 2023 edition of the Kempton Gun Makers Fair.

Colt Double Action Revolver Frame Sizes of the 20th Century
The 20th century was the heyday of double action revolvers, and both Colt and Smith & Wesson made some real classics.
It seems like there is a lot of information on the frame sizes of Smith & Wesson revolvers, but not so much for Colts.
I hope this helps with that situation.

Casing a Colt 1860 Revolver
I thought my 2nd generation Colt 1860 Army revolver deserved a better home than a crappy, black cardboard box, so I set up a cased display set with the revolver and the appropriate accouterments.
In this video I’ll show you how I did it, along with a little history on cased sets, and on the original accouterments that they contained.

Fort Loudoun Market Fair 2023
On June 23 through the 25th, I was camping at the Fort Loudoun 18th Century Market Fair located at Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania, just west of Chambersburg.
The event takes place on the grounds of the beautifully recreated French & Indian War era fort. So, come with me and visit this year’s event.

Italian Remington 44 Cap & Ball Shootout
In this week’s video I’ll be doing a shoot out between .44 caliber Remington New Model Army replicas made by both Pietta and Uberti.
I’ll shoot each gun off of a rest and we’ll see which gun is more accurate with round balls, and with conical bullets.
I can tell you, the results were neck and neck. Watch the video to learn which gun performed better.

Why I miss filming at Duelist's Den
This week I was filming the story of a Texas legend...Ben McCulloch, and how he secured 2,000 Colt 1860 Army revolvers for the Texas Rangers, right at the start of the Civil War.
Because of the corrupt political machine that is trying to stop me from shooting on my land, I had to film this video at my gun club.
These out takes will show you why I miss filming at Duelist’s Den

18th Century Smoothbores School of the Longhunter Seminar 2023
One of the seminar topics that I present is on period correct loading and firing techniques for 18th century smooth-bored guns.
The seminar covers both military muskets and civilian guns.
I give seminars at various events, but since most of you will never attend one of those events, I decided to turn the seminar into a video.

Duelist's Den Zoning Issue Update 23 March 2023
Here is an update on my Zoning Board issue at Dueliust’s Den.
As many of you already know, the Zoning Board of North Hopewell, PA has accused me of “Operating a shooting range” at My Duelist’s Den property.
The ordnance they are applying to me is clearly intended to regulate commercial shooting ranges, or large gun clubs. They do not seem to be intended for an individual land owner, shooting on his own property.
Ken Hill had graciously set up a Go Fund Me page to help with my legal bills. To date we have received about $60,000 in donations. So, we have stopped accepting donations.
Thank you all for your support. It has literally been unbelievable!
Our next Zoning Board hearing is 12 April 2023. It will probably be the end of April before I hear anything. I’ll keep you informed.
Thank you all for your support…both financial, and encouragement. I am truly humbled by how much you have helped me.

I need your help
As many of you already know, the Zoning Board of North Hopewell, PA has accused me of “Operating a shooting range” at My Duelist’s Den property.
The ordnance they are applying to me is clearly intended to regulate commercial shooting ranges, or large gun clubs. They do not seem to be intended for an individual land owner, shooting on his own property.
They are doing this to me despite the fact that only I shoot on my property…no guests.
And despite the fact I only shoot there about once a week, during the warm months, and that I almost always shoot in the middle of the week, when people are working, so as not to disturb anyone.
The Acting Zoning Officer told me he didn’t care if I only shot there once a year. He would still close me down.
Since all my neighbors also shoot and hunt, this seems like a targeted action, specifically aimed at me, and I am determined to fight it.
I retained a law firm that specializes in municipal law, and they are preparing my appeal.
Because they are specialists, they are very expensive. My life savings is rapidly depleting, but I do not want to go down without a fight.
Ken Hill has graciously set up a Go Fund Me page to help with my legal bills.
I hate to ask for help, but I can’t do this on my own.
I would be very grateful for any help you can provide .
Thank you.
